Is your van the high top? Or medium? I’m thinking the same as you but my van floor to roof (interior) is 6”2” and it’s a bit tight for headroom if you are tall.

Great video thank you,my only concern is my little split charger is fitted under the seat,it may impede with the action of the swivel, apart from that you did a good video there mate thanks again

I came across your video while looking for a swivel base that would fit the actual bench seats instead of the driver or passenger seat.

@@cornish_wallys Hey man, can you tell me by any chance, what height you have in the cargo area after the insulation?
@alanmay1945 Жыл бұрын
Yes, putting that cable entry box sloping side forward is best, I think too, despite the cables needing a loop. With the bracketing, looking at it paused at 18:00, it would seem to me that your home made long brackets 50x70 along each side of the van is all that is needed, without those little ones in the middle having to be there at all, as the panels in themselves are plenty enough rigid and robust. What do you think, with hindsight?
@cornish_wallys Жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, thanks for the comment! Yeah I was unsure if it needed them at first, but I'm glad I put them in as the solar panels weigh 10kg each, and with the panels bolted together it did seem a bit flimsy in the middle. The aluminium framing of the panels is super thin and maybe driving along a bumpy road it could potentially damage the panels. It's funny watching it back as all of the planning in the background took soo long! I'm still glad the way I have done it and to a really good standard. I've seen what happens when panels come flying off the roof and it's just not worth it to save on a few holes. But that's just my opinion. And the homemade brackets must only weigh a few grams. And there is a main structural member in the middle of the panels. Its crazy how much the metal sheeting moves when i try and move the panels and in 1 of my later videos I've fitted support beams inside. Hope this helps and thanks again for your input 😀

I wouldn't worry about trying to improve the filming. People are watching for information/hints/tips, on building a camper. So many channels cut out all the important bits of a build to make everything fluffy. They fail to mention the time scale of each job. Then people try it themselves and expect to produce an Instagram ready campervan in a few weekends. Most people fail to understand the insulation, wall cladding, subfloor and first fix wiring takes longer than building the inside cupboards and bed.

Any advice on where to buy solar panels from?
@cornish_wallys Жыл бұрын
I bought these direct from Renogy, we had these on our last van too and they were brilliant.
@rogerstarkey5390 Жыл бұрын
Seems to me that's 8-10 more holes in the roof than you really needed. 2 strips of unistrut 2 bolts each (Rivnuts) and everything bolted to them....
@cornish_wallys Жыл бұрын
There's 9 holes all together, but 5 of them are the existing holes for roof racks. Thought I would just make sure the front was really well held down and supported. The awning complicates things for unistrut, I'm sure there's a way of doing it. The roof line of the crafter is a right pain too. It slopes towards the back of the van so hard to bolt something square to the roof.

Lovely job , I’m looking for the same van , any advice on where to buy or what model ?
@cornish_wallys Жыл бұрын
Thanks 🙂 I bought my van privately, but dealerships seem to be getting them by the truckload at the moment. I suppose they are at the 5 year old stage, which means end of pcp/hire purchase contracts. They seem to dent really really easy, so look out for small dents, check the loading area under the barn doors as they seem to get pretty rusty real fast if damaged. If fwd the CV boot on the drivers side seem to be a common issue...but may be a bargaining tool. Full service history is essential! Other than that they are brilliant vans! Happy hunting 🤟

If there wasn't a skylight there already, would you have put it in further back? Interested to hear your thoughts, pro's and con's
@cornish_wallys Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, that's the only place in the rear of the van that it would fit anyway, due to the distance between the structural beams. I would have to remove a beam if it went anywhere else in the back. So sort of worked in my favour! I also made sure it won't obstruct the bathroom before fitting

Thanks Adam! Took us about 8 days... Was 2000 miles from Cornwall to get there. We was very nervous to drive that far but very surprised how fast we managed to get there! Its very strange living out of a van so small telling yourself that it doesn't matter how far you go because you always have somewhere to stay! We loved it. Could live in a van as small as a T5 full time!
