I don't hit that hard and people say im still too loud cuz im a metal drummer in a rock band and playing extremely light makes me not want to play the drums
@trentfancher12 күн бұрын
Hey, I can understand. Just know you CAN get a powerful sound without hitting hard if you’re hitting it right! You should learn how because you may want to play drums when you’re older but it will hurt.

I’d say if you play anything like metal hit the snare as hard as you want just make the ghost notes sound like ghost notes… and for the Tom’s hit then I’d say with lighter so you don’t choke the sound of them and for cymbals try to hit them as light as possible. But when you’re in the “zone” it’s hard to hit anything light if you play metal.

Any tips on how to build your grip strength on the left hand because whenever i try to loosen it to get a bounce it slips out
@trentfancher4 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t look at it as a lack of “grip strength” that needs building. There would be two extremes: gripping so tightly it hurts and so loosely the stick slips out. Find the balance between the two. The point of contact on the stick is only first finger and thumb. The other three fingers cradle and guide bounce. Start from your too loose of grip and slightly increase the squeeze in thumb and first finger until it doesn’t slip out… as often! Remember, the sticks fly out of everyone’s hands from time to time. I never let that trigger the thought, I need to grip more tightly! Flying sticks is a part of drumming! Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

It depends so much on the context you’re playing at, so I can’t say I agree or disagree really, maybe in general you’re right even though I love the energy of a loud ass drummer at least for rock music.
@trentfancher Жыл бұрын
Exactly! Context is key here and its hard to touch on EVERY exception to the “rule” in one minute. I’m hoping a particular faction of drummers hears the message that bashing harder isn’t better and often leads to pain later. It’s best to learn to hit properly and a big sound will come out. I agree with YOU that certain bashers are thrilling to watch and I saw somebody the other day who sounded so great and hit incredibly hard. But then there are some who are just expending too much effort and energy and it looks painful. Man, I so appreciate you taking the time to comment and for a more nuanced discussion!
