Truss rod set at 0.080 is a little too aggressive I think, might result in fret buzzing, I would back that off to at least 0.014 for better results.

Like I love the imperial system not gonna lie. Probably the only person. When someone says “it’s a football field long” I know what that means. When someone says 1/64th of an inch I have no context. PLEASE PLEASE USE THE METRIC SYSTEM

Having me do math to figure out what 10/64th of an inch is and how to bring it down to 0.1 inches or whatever like come on man it makes NO SENSE

Thank you for the informative video. I watched it especially to see if you have a solution for some issues I've had setting up my CV 50s Squier strat's action. I've tried to lower the action on this guitar to recommend values by Fender, Sweetwater, etc i.e about 1.2mm -1.6 mm at the 12th fret, but at those values there are many dead notes when bending at the high frets on the high E strins and a lot of buzz on the low E string, so it is impossible to play at those low actions. Even on the Squier manual itself they say that the Fender factory settings for the string heights at the 12th fret are : 0.098 inch (2.4892 mm) for the high E string and 0.12 inch (3.048 mm) for the low E string [These are even higher than Stevie Ray Vaughan's preferred actions), and that any problems caused by lowering the action will NOT be covered by Fender warranty. Also I've taken my Squier strat to some expert guitar techs but they all say that lowering the action of Squier strats to as low as 1.2 mm-1-5 mm will only cause dead notes and problems with SEVERE buzzes and bendings, so I had to accept a high action on this guitar. I'd appreciate your comments on this?

Should you use the pick capo to hold low E string against the first fret, when measuring the string height/action? Its not shown in this video, but is done in the Fender Stratocaster setup video and mentioned in your 24 page manual.

This is why I always have Sweetwater perform a Plek Setup on FR guitars - never played guitars setup so perfectly. With them doing so many plek setups a day - they really have it down.

I was going to get one of these then noticed the area that is lacking abrasive in the middle looks pretty wide, not enough grit to bring the final crowning to a pine point. Does this file require rocking and rotation to get a finished crowning, or is this more like a roughing it in file to be followed up by say the Z file?

is the same information valid for an Ibanez SR 5 string?
@MusicNomadCare
@MusicNomadCare 5 күн бұрын
On a 5 string bass you would start with the gauge labeled bass .008. That is most common measurement for bass guitars. If you get some buzzing, go to the gauge labeled classical .010 to create a larger pocket for the low B string and other strings to oscillate.

Well you explained the problem i was having yesterday when i was trying to fix the intonation on my Wolfgang. On several strings the fretted note was sharp and i was running out of real estate moving the saddles back. I did not know there are actually 3 holes there and you can move the set screw. For now at least the intonation is a lot better than it was. I will move the screws the next time i change strings. I was trying to lower the action by lowering the posts that the Floyd rose rests/pivots on and i was messing around with the spring tension in the back as well to try and get it flat. Well i noticed one side of the Floyd is higher up off the body than the other, the high E side by a little bit. Should it be level or is that common? I heard some people say they put their Floyd all the way flush against the body but i can't do that because the action gets too low and it buzzes out. Is it supposed to sound better or what's the advantage of it being flush against the body?

Why on earth does he use 1/16", 1/32" and 1/64" to specify. A lot of people have trouble with this and cannot immediately compare say 5/64" with 3/32". If you just use 64ths, it's easy. E.g. 6/64" is more than 5/64"!

Just a question - if we're taking different amounts of material off the High E and Low E sides of the saddle, does that mess with the radius of the saddle with respect to the fretboard? 19:26

I've follow Geoff's set up instruction for my Martin and Taylor. Both turned out perfect following his tutorials. Couldn't be happier.Tele is a different animal. Take away was the difference of nut filing angle for the tele ( nearly parallel) as opposed to a slight angle toward the head stock on the acoustics. Very well done. Can't wait to try this on my CS Tele. Thank you Geoff. I'm in Marin. Good plug for Nomad also.

What about the Pole screw hight?
@MusicNomadCare
@MusicNomadCare 23 күн бұрын
You would adjust the bass side pickup and treble side pickup to the pickup height specs. On humbucker pickups that have adjustable pole pieces, you are able to raise or lower the pole pieces on each string to achieve even output if needed. Pickup pole pieces are set by the manufacturer and should not need very much adjustment. Feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] to discuss your specific instruments needs.

I live in Las Vegas our humidity level today is 9% dew point is 34%. I keep my guitars in gator cases. My nomad humidifier over humidify’s in gator cases but not in my Yamaha case that’s old. Any suggestions? Thx
@MusicNomadCare
@MusicNomadCare 23 күн бұрын
Monitoring your humidity levels is the most important. For the gator cases that seal well you would remove the humidifier and monitor until you are in the safe zone. By monitoring on a regular basis will allow you to humidify properly and keep the humidity consistent. Feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] and we can discuss further. Thank you!

Need a camera view of the before height. Maybe some math on the screen.
@timsmith190
@timsmith190 29 күн бұрын
Why are you fretting the 6th string at the 1st fret? Don't you want to read the string height at the 12 fret with the 6th string resting in its nut slot? Won't this give you a reading .010-.020 lower than actual (the height of the 6th string off the 1st fret?
@MusicNomadCare
@MusicNomadCare 23 күн бұрын
In the flow, string height comes before nut height. The measurements we have are based on using the pick capo at the first fret. Since the nut has not been addressed yet you would be using a height reference point that could be off. The first fret is a fixed height to adjust from.

i do this without any silly gimmick tools. the string is a straightedge. the first fret and the 17th are good places to press it down and you can see the relief of the neck as the gap between the frets and the string. the thickness of the high e string is about the same measure as the height that same string should be above the 8th fret when its pressed down at the 1st and 17th. you dont even need a capo, hold the 1st fret with one hand and use the pinky and thumb for the others
