That depends on the silicone formula. This one has about a 4-6 hour cure.

I have seen people use extra or old cured silicone in new moldes, especially in larger spaces of silicone. They clean it and cut it up and just add it into the new mold. I don’t know how to feel about this and have not tried it. Can you let me know what you think about this. Thanks love your content.
@brickintheyard11 күн бұрын
I have not used that technique, so I can't speak from experience. I saw that mentioned years ago in the Thurston James prop making book. Silicone prices have come down a lot since then so it isn't as big of a savings as it was. That said, some silicones do not bond well to old silicone, clean or not. You could run the risk of a mold that will have very low tear strength and break down quickly. Be careful and run a small test to make sure you are happy with the results before you use that technique on a critical project!

Hello I use a medical device called UR24 at night and it is a male suction catheter for incontinence. It has a extreme soft silicone sheath very stretchable but very soft maybe 1/4 in thick. It is reusable but the silicone always ends up tearing and they cost about $125 each. They come apart perfect to remove the silicone sleave. I was wanting to try casting some sleave and fix them rather than keep buying them every month. The rest is just tubing and a special housing that has a safety valve and it snaps together. I am certain I could build a mold. If you look up UR24 you can see what I am talking about. They always tear up inside the the plastic head where the silicone is connected. Would one of these work or even better is their a good way to repair a tear in one like a type of glue or epoxy that would seal a small tear? Any help appreciated a lot. I have to use this or wear a diaper to bed and this is much preferred and neither is cheap.
@brickintheyard17 күн бұрын
What you asking about would be a medical device, not a medical simulator. Medical devices are heavily regulated from the raw materials to the manufacturing process. You are taking very high risks making your own medical device, not something I would encourage!
@jvmiller199517 күн бұрын
@@brickintheyard Okay. I would be using all the original parts and safety valves. Just wanting to make a simple silicone sleave nothing more. Not recreating the device just want a silicone product to repairing or replacing one failed part. I get why you don't encourage but I really don't see an issue as long as the material is safe to contact human skin. But thank you for the reply
