I just ordered one today, excited for it to arrive but nervous. I had to order medium because that’s all that was in stock. I would have ordered medium soft if it was available. I’m a returning player after 12+ years away and would really like to be able to get into playing without worrying about reeds. I never fully learned how to make or really adjust reeds. I tried the Legere European cut but I am struggling with its responsiveness. Feels very stuffy and hard for me to focus my embouchure, especially below C# and above A flat. It’s also incredibly sharp on my oboe.

@@shy.kumquat it’s so much better than that one! I unfortunately lost mine so idk how it holds up LOL

@@VinOboe I got it but it’s not great. Very bright even though I ordered the medium. It also plays very sharp and I find it not-so-responsive. I ended up scraping the Legere into more of an American style reed, and it sounds much better and has decent response. I think if Legere released an American scrape, it would be the best synthetic oboe reed on the market. My other critique about Legere is the all in one plastic staple. I may experiment with taking off the top of the reed and putting it on my own staple. I want to return the Ambipoly, but I tried adjusting it to make it better. I improved the sound a bit but it’s still very unresponsive. Idk if it’s just a bad reed, but I don’t see myself ordering another. I might try the KGE Klastig reed, but right now feeling kind of burned after paying $150 for the Ambipoly.

I see on the website that it’s adjustable. Have you tried adjusting it yet?
@VinOboe7 ай бұрын
I have not! I really don’t have any problems with the tone or response or pitch so I haven’t adjusted it. The only thing giving me an issue is the tip opening! It is so closed
@PPam77 ай бұрын
So no adjustments could be made to make the tip more open? (I’m relatively new to oboe.)

As a long-ago former oboist, this is great!! I wasn't thinking about the reed issues thing until I saw the gal tug on the reed a bit at the end. You two were tight, together, in tune, and aced both parts really cleanly, none of which always happens, and all through some pretty animated part-writing. Great stuff!!

Nice English Horns, the difference between Oboe and E Horns are a extended neck piece.
