I have been a fan of Nikon until have the Sony a7Riii. I was expecting more updates in Z50ii. But it is a very old sensor & without IBIS 👎. There are nothing improvement in dynamic range.

Hey, great review. Can this thing fire bursts at say 1/8th of full power ? Would the DP series be better for this ? They sell QT series for continuous shooting, but these flashes are very expensive, and I don't think I need THAT level of perfomance, but I will do some shootings in a row.

You said that Canon has a larger selection of crop-frame lenses than Nikon. Have you tried shooting a Canon (or Sony) lens on the Z50? I see they sell adaptors but I don't know if all features of the lens work. I also have Nikon gear going back to the F2 era. Does the Z50 handle well with FTZ and f-mount lenses? (I know that any lens with no focus motor is manual)

Thanks for this detailed video, I’ve been watching many trying to decide if the R5 mk2 with this lens or the 100-500 would be the best pick for surf photography. I live in front of a terrific surf spot which is some 200m out to sea. After hearing your review I’m now leaning toward the 200-800 lens as most surf photography is at least 30-40 metres away, and for it’s few minor shortcomings I think this one is the winner. I must admit I was very interested in your comments about not shooting in Raw because in the past I haven’t as I can often get coverage out quicker than those that do. The only thing I would’ve liked to also hear was how it performed for video as I like to shoot both. Thanks again.

A complete and interesting test, as usual, Mr Rockwell. I think it should be seen as a plus for someone who shoots a lot around 200. What I really like about this lens, apart from its weird range, is the memory recall and, above all, the fact that when you walk into the room, you're the boss ! As much as I like YT videos, I wonder if I'd rather be reading Ken Rockwell ;-)

- " Do you need this lens " -> no, you don't 😂 And ... it's true. But I like this kind of big rock, when you use it, you know why. Personnally, I like the 180, more compact but this is another story and a 180 f/2.8 IS NOT a 200 f/2. Super complete test ...as usual with Ken. ❤

A 200mm on APS-C is a really compelling alternative. Somehow doubt preset focus adjusts for temperature changes so you're not going to prefocus on the moon in daylight & have stars in focus at night.

De-clicked is for video specifically, as you sort of mentioned. The de-clicked aperture ring is the standard on cinema lenses, you don't want those micro-jitters of the clicks when you're adjusting your iris while you're rolling. A switch however to enable/disable a clicked aperture ring would've been a great feature for a lens at this price point. Great review.

Is it worth getting a film camera that sets exposure in thirds of a stop instread of half-stops when shooting transparency film? Sometimes i think i could get more accurate exposures if i could have finer control, but would that make a visible difference? I have Nikon f80 and am thinking about f100, because of this, but wouldn't want to lug around more heavy and bigger camera if it would not make a difference.

@@KenRockwellTVthanks Ken! Just checked them out. As a real estate photographer I shoot in raw and then convert them to a smaller dng before I edit because of the size of these r5ii files. As for JPEG I really should be using that more for family and vacation shoots. I don’t switch it over and now I’m finding myself editing my kids birthday parties, which isn’t that fun😅. JPEG is under rated and does stop photos from seeing the light of day. RAW plays a part for my business but outside of that JPEG does make sense.

Question .. If one gives priority to photo over video and size factor over taking extenders .. is the first RF 70-200 f/2.8 at a good price a bargain 😅 Thanks Ken 🙏
@rezzoc918 күн бұрын
I think every RF lens is pretty good so it depends. If you're going wedding it can be perfect, if you're looking for a single walkaround lens for landscape I have drank Ken's coolaid and I'm enjoying the 24-240 very much. I slap a polarising filter when needed (It came with my used copy lucky me) and I'm happy. But if I was a pro wedding or event photographer I'd look for the first rf 70-200 and some good flashes
@KenRockwellTV8 күн бұрын
Not really. I refer the internal zoom and at 200mm the size and weights are the same. If you want portability get the old lens, but if toynshoot all day, get the Z

@@rezzoc91 I have to agree with that, I love that all purpose kind of lens, what are you shooting usually and will you upgrade to the R5ii or no need
@rezzoc918 күн бұрын
@@LouisLuzuka I just upgraded to the R5 from Fujifilm, by selling all the prime lenses I had with it I could buy the 24-240 which is in my opinion a superior lens for what I do. Especially the autofocus is spectacular. I believe this camera could be my forever camera for what I do and I don't feel the need for the mark ii because I don't work professionally and I don't do sports or similar kind of photography. Also I like the idea that the OG R5 seems to be more easy going with SD cards and battery whereas the mark ii has shown some whims recently. But like Ken always says "That's just me"
@LouisLuzuka8 күн бұрын

Eh? Given that it has dials for shutter speed and aperture... what does the PASM switch do? Don't you just set the settings, like on Fuji?... I don't get the function of the PASM...
@KenRockwellTV7 күн бұрын
PSAM selects among the exposure modes. Shutter dial is ignored unless you’re in M or S. It’s flawed; by comparison CONTAX does it much better than anyone.
@johnvienna34227 күн бұрын
@@KenRockwellTV Yes... but... if you have a shutter speed dial and an aperture ring... then you don't need "exposure modes"... you just set what you want to set, and leave anything you want to leave in auto on A... it's much simpler, with no need for "exposure modes". Maybe I'm missing something...? I literally don't understand why we need the extra step of telling the camera "I'm going to set the shutter speed now", then setting the shutter speed. Why not just, like, set the shutter speed? Or aperture. Or both... it's not complicated...
