Great huge launches, OMG! Your glider has a nice performance! You have a lucky hour as you said. Flying is so relaxing. Unfortunately our nearby park is very small for DLG flights, but my motor glider can reach thermal air, so it was fantastic that I was afraid of the thermal taking my glider away. Unfortunately my wings was too weak for fast flight. So I am in work to build a new strenghtened wings. It is nice that in 200 m height there are huge thermals which can cause huge lifts, so it is useful if we have a spoiler or breaks. I our park it is hard to reach a proper height from the surrounding trees. But in about 100 m the air is so smooth. I wish you the best Daniel, and I was happy to see you flying again!

Just stumbled across your video... I am seriously thinking about purchasing one of theses DLG`s. Do they thermal ok?
@banko4445 ай бұрын
@@Heathfloors yes they do with some flying experience. If you’re new to dlgs and especially if you’re new to sailplanes, a 1.5 m glider is a better choice. The longshot 4 is the best value for something that will fly well. Or a decent used competition dlg if you can find one. I’ve stopped building and flying 1m models if that says anything. I’ve stretched my next scratch build to 1.2m span and have a couple 1.5m models in queue to build as well.

I'm really impressed by the performance of AG03 airfoil...nice one man
@banko4447 ай бұрын
Yeah man. I really think that at the smaller spans it’s probably ‘nearly’ as good as any ‘fancy’ airfoil like a synergy 2 or zone 2. I’d bet the difference in L/D would be much greater at 1.5m though. I’m about to build a 1.2m ag03 wing though so we’ll see how it translates to a bit more span. :). I don’t plan on building anything larger than 1.2m from scratch myself.

You’re way too kind Peter. It hurts my back to do a full discus launch so I don’t do many of them anymore. Is what it is. Does give another few meters over a side arm only though.

@banko4447 ай бұрын
Thanks. And no. This is the ‘real deal’. Hotwire xps foam core. Carbon spar and shear webs. Vacuum bagged fiberglass skins. It’s an involved process. Worth it. But very involved. Until molds and CNC cut cores became the norm, this is how most sailplanes were made. Some still are.

What kind of height are you getting with these launches, hard to tell from the video? Not to sound insulting but it seems high considering you're not even giving it a full effort by spinning.....enjoy watching your progress! Keep up the great work!
@banko4449 ай бұрын
Well. I have a lumbar issue with which a full discus launch hurts. So side arm only for me. But even so I’m getting this plane up about 40 meters. Which is more than high enough. I don’t fly contests, so chasing every meter of launch height is pointless, especially since launching harder than this is painful for me.
