Great video. Is is possible to combine several different nodes? Rather than performing tasks one by one, we include multiple actions in a single node.

If you mean something like automated execution or scheduling, you can't. This is a feature of the premium KNIME product called Business Hub. Everything you do on your local machine cannot be really scheduled without you sitting at the machine itself.

Hello Sir.. I am here again.. Hope you are doing good. I am looking for one solution where i did not find in any of the sessions... I looking for the solution to combine multiple excel files data in one master file but it should consolidate columns one after one but not one below one , i can only see only one below one solutions. Could you please assist knime solutions. Example 1st excel file ABC column , 2nd excel file date should add in DEF COLUMNS instead of adding one below one... like for more than 10 files .

Thanks again @madhu for commenting - I really love, how engaged you are with KNIME. I have uploaded a simple example workflow to the KNIME Community Hub (publicly available). You can find it here: hub.knime.com/s/RZWia9lJJlag5Jzh Basically what we do is this: 1- read all the source files from the specified folder (in my case it's 3 files but it could be any number) 2- loop through the source files and read them with the Excel Reader 3- end the loop with a Loop End (Column Append) node - this is the crucial step that appends all 'newly read' columns to the existing table Let me know if this helped you. I am also super happy to provide you with an additional video walkthrough of the workflow if you want to 😀

Hey, can you declare global variables and set the metanodes to repeat for each data row? Thanks!
@bytesandbudgets
@bytesandbudgets 7 ай бұрын
yes, absolutley. Just make sure that the metanodes have flow variable in- and output ports to route the variables through them. if you want to do repetitive work e. g. per row of data, a lot of the manipulation nodes (yellow 1s) work on a row basis, or - if you have a combo of nodes that should repetitively do stuff per row - you could also use a loop. Hopefully this answers your questions.

@bytesandbudgets
@bytesandbudgets 7 ай бұрын
Thank you a lot for the comment. Not sure if direct translation - let's say from German to English - is possible in KNIME as this is not really what KNIME is supposed to do. It might be possible to create something like this but I guess it is quite a bit of effort. I would say your best bet is to go to the KNIME forums and ask there how one should approach this (unfortunately, I do not have a solution at hand right now). Hope this helps anyways.

@bytesandbudgets

Hello Matthew, sorry, for not getting back to you earlier (was on vacation ;) - I don't have a workflow at hand but the initial idea on how to approach this would be to loop through the sheets. Let me know, if you want to hear more about this and I'll do a video where I loop over several sheets and apply the same formatting everywhere (like in 'monthly sheets')

Thanks for the video. I can see if you're not too familiar with Excel, ChatGPT could be quite useful for suggesting formulas/methods. However, if you're already an experienced Excel user, it might be faster to just clean the data yourself rather than to spend time describing what you want done. For example, at 11:53, if this was a one off task, it would be faster to hard code column K then use the text to columns feature and use a space as the delimiter to separate the city from the country rather than spend time describing the problem and then pasting in the formulas. If you were regularly getting an export like you've demonstrated and it was always in that particular format, then getting ChatGPT to help create cleaning tool might be useful. One of the data clean up tasks I need to do is to copy/paste the list of executive team members from various corporate websites (i.e. Bank of Bahrain & Kuwait, Bendura Bank, Bahrain Islamic Bank etc) into Excel then arrange the pasted data into nice neat columns showing first name, any middle names, last name and the job title. The pasted-in text always is in a completely different structure from each corporate website and there is normally a lot of superfluous information too. I'd love to be proved wrong but after writing a different request for each different collection of text belonging to a corporate website then checking the results then refining the prompt, I think I'd be faster just doing it myself manually.

Thats a great explanation!! Since we are concatenating multiple files would it be possible to include a column in the concatenated file that shows from which files the records has come from? this would help identify the source file if there are any issues in the concatenated records.
@bytesandbudgets
@bytesandbudgets 10 ай бұрын
Absolutely possible 😀 If you import files through an Excel Reader Node you need to go to the 'Advanced' tab. There in the 'File and Sheet' section (the one at the very top) you will see an option to 'Append file path column'. Check that and an additional column with your file path will be added at the end of your table. Works for both, single file imports as well as if you choose the 'Files in folder' option in the Excel Reader Node. Let me know, if that helped 🙃

Thank you for the feedback. Glad you like it. If you want to do it VLOOKUP style (like in Excel) you probably want to use the Joiner Node (see this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l57QfpWpgt6be6M) Otherwise you can still use the Concatenate Node but must accept that for the non-equal columns (so basically the ones that are in one table but not the other) you will have missing values. Hope this helps.
