Those tailgates, in any kind of reasonable condition, are getting rare. When Studebaker ended production, they must have had a bunch of partially finished tailgates left over - they show up now and then - easy to tell because they are missing the two side pieces. Studebaker advertised the beds as "grain proof" as to how tight they fit. Wish I would have known about you needing chains, I have a pair of NOS examples - still have the rubber covers on the outside to keep the back of the bed from getting all scratched up. Looking great!

That is one sweet looking Jag, as far as I could see no rust in the body, which is the most important factor with these old cars, all the mechanicals can be replaced but when the underbody and doors are rotted out its curtains.

Never seen a bent push rod on a Stude. Easy way to adjust valves is put marks every 90° on crank damper, rotate to TDC on #1 and adjust intake and exhaust, rotate 90° and adjust next cylinder in firing order, etc

I think it’s mainly due to the fact the car has two fuses in total, and most of the car is in wired with cloth wire. It deteriorates and leads to gremlins for sure.

Before you read any of my comments, LOVE THE VIDEO Hey Just found your channel, you MAY be interested in my channel JAGVETTE1 I an restoring a MKII on my channel. Oh my god that interior is horrendous , sorry if you like it. I used the old drain plug in my new tank as you are trashing the old tank you will get it out, just may destroy the old tank in the process, OH WELL :), 90 degrees on the spark plug wires is correct. With that car you will need to purchase a set of AF spanners and also the odd Whitworth Spanner. FYI over the years I have collected a lot of parts I don't need and happy to sell, just let me know and if I have what you need I sell at very cheap prices. Sorry don't need the music even though it is not objectionable, just one of my qwerks. OK it may not be worth the big bucks but what is you plan to keep it for a long time ?, then if you get it close back to original it will sell, remember just because it's not the 3.8 it has rarity value. FYI happy to chat with you anytime about Jaguar MKII, I know a lot but not everything

There is nothing like getting the tires in contact with the pavement - feels great. You were right about the valve adjustment - double-check your numbers. On the V8, Studebaker gives numbers for adjusting them hot or cold - the hot numbers are .023 to .025 and cold is .025 to .027. There are quite a few experienced Studebaker people who will run the exhaust valve on the big side (and even going up to .030) because the seat will wear much faster than the intake. Going more loose will not require an adjustment as fast. Running them too tight will end up burning valves. I put @25K miles on a '64 half ton with that 5th/OD transmission. It got to the point where I ignored 1st and 2nd gear - just rowed 3 - 4 - 5 - that Studebaker V8 has plenty of torque to get it rolling in 3rd without even slipping the clutch. Thanks for the update - happy to see so much progress.

While someone dropped a '57, 289 under the hood, they kept the later (1961-64) water pump manifold. Your local auto parts store can run this number to get a top molded hose: Dayco 70543 - bottom hose: NAPA 7967. The 70543 is not a direct drop in - need to trim a little off the radiator side to get it spot on. Studebaker used Carter four barrel carburetors, but if it works, it works. Glad to hear fire in the pipes - those engines were pretty tough. Keep on wrenchin!

@18:00 That's being observant to catch that discrepancy in that placement of the key-way ring tab thaan'gee... I'm 65 and so pleased to see young fellers such as your good self and your buddy there have the aptitude and interest in old school mechanics. I only hope you will have a life time of being able to pursue your interest being things aren't looking so good for combustion engines as we've grown to know and love their simple but well engineered designs from way back when. 👌👍😍 Loving this and I see I'm going to be looking forward to more from you two guys. 👨‍🔧🧑‍🔧

Near about 13:50 when the talk is on this transmission (Geez I hope you have redundency on those jacks in case the, ....I'd rather not go there)* p.s. Edit: * Reviewing the video I see them two wheels stacked and placed under the truck; I guess this is your redundacy backup to jackstand failure, good on ya there! But fellas I have a Studebaker transmission story I can relay to ya'll: .....Back in the early seventies, say 1971 or two, our family acquired a Daytona Wagonaire with its novel rear sliding rooftop. This was a 1964 model year, yes at the end for the Packard/Studebaker stagnation collaboration. Power plant was of course V8 powered, tranny was the '3-on-the-tree' with overdrive. Overdrive could be activated at any time (clutch depressed - can't recall but probably) with a 'T' handle to the left of the steering column, just under the dash. I'll never forget driving this wagon in bumper to bumper commute traffic with the clutch pedal return spring so strong it nearly gave you a Charlie Horse. It was misery for my left leg at 17 years old and a strong bicyclist at the time I was, as most boys were back then. Oh, the dread of returning home from work on my feet for near all eight hours of my shift only to fight that clutch in stop and go commuter traffic. Best wishes with all you plan in life CJB and I really love the LP Intro, where did that idea come from that is if you don't mind saying, I'd love for you to share the inspiration.

Love it! I've got a 60 Champ 1/2 ton that was in somewhat the same condition when I got it. If that engine really is stuck parts to rebuild it are quite available, and those engines can be found. It would be a shame to put something like a bellybutton motor in it... You might try putting the truck in gear and pushing it to get the engine moving. It would likely be easier, plus no more torquing of the crankshaft bolt. You also might have a deluxe cab, at least in 60 standard cab trucks didn't have an outside door lock on the driver's side, which your's does. The door card also looks like one of the fancy ones, not the plain jane card of the standard cab trucks. If you contact the Studebaker National Museum in South Bend you can get a build sheet that shows just how the truck was built. Good luck!

That floor rust is a restorers dream - have seen them with not only the floor rusted out, but the outrigger from the frame rusted through as well. The bracket you pointed at and commented on next to the steering sector is the clutch mechanism pivot - they are notorious for breaking off and were weak when new. Check it over and repair as needed. Thanks for posting.

Looking good - 4.10 rear ratio is the lowest numerical ratio available in the 3/4 ton, Dana 60, for Champ trucks. With 5th gear being OD, it will give you some "legs" for the highway. There were only 653 domestic 3/4 ton trucks built for the '63 model year (first VIN was E12-5901). Good luck and keep posting.
