Nice! I think when I upgrade from my Gen 2 GTX35R dual bb turbo I’m going with HPT turbo. He owned precision & now started that company. He came up with a quick spool technology & a new 6870 dual bb is only like &$2100. Really nice turbos. But my Gen 2 GTX3582R is good for 850-900 hp so I should be good….✌🏻🏁

I’m not sure, there is an HX40G. G meant that it had coolant ports on the bearing housing. There is a HX35 and HX35W, I think W meant that it had the wastegate on the compressor housing.

I've got a 2.0 liter and an old gt35r. Would this setup spool farley quick. My setup now is so laggy. Whats the cost on this if I send you my turbo? Its a precision. Probably 15 years old. I rebuilt it years ago from a kit I bought from you.
@turbolabamerica2 күн бұрын
I would do a boost leak test first. Then I would look for return exhaust leaks. If the tune is also good you maybe seeing the best the turbo has to offer. You can change turbine housing sizes to a smaller one to help with spool. I would not go up on size, if anything you may need to step down in size.
@HEADDYNAMICS2 күн бұрын
@turbolabamerica what's the cost to have you size it smaller? It's a really old turbine wheel. I didn't know if a new design wheel would help, and I have no problem going smaller, but would like to keep the same center section. Is there a better way to contact you?
@andrewterry3176Күн бұрын
@HEADDYNAMICS no, you can't go any smaller. If you did then your turbine housing's would be useless. What you need is a gt30 based turbo. Or a g30. I can help you with sizing if you want to purchase a genuine Garrett.

By any chance you have a mods list floatin around. I'd like to be here someday
@turbolabamerica3 күн бұрын
I haven’t updated a video on my whole mods list. I do have a few videos of the build on this channel. I bought the speedtech top mount kit without a turbo so I could build my own GT35R that I had special parts for. The closest bolt on kit you can get is the speedtech kit with the G35 turbo it’s a new version of the GT35R. The great thing about the turbo I made is parts are easy to get to repair it, I have a lot of parts to make them. If you had the kit with the G35 then did a T51R on the compressor housing you will be pretty close to my setup. Besides that, I have the 7” intercooler, 3” piping from the driver side to the intake manifold. Dual walbro 450s, 1 on a Hobbs switch (you could probably go with 1 525 and save money, best to research that. I did the helix overdrive but I would recommend port injection instead because it sounds like I’ll still be limited. I have index 12 injector, a lot of people are deleting direct injection and going port injection no because of the cost of injectors for these cars are like 4500$ now and the hpfp being 750$. You will need the VTTO oxygen sensor spacer thing to save your o2 from getting damaged. I also put a circuit work exhaust on and had to modify it to work on the 335XI, I wish I went with the vrsf because the circuit works one is rusting in some places even though it’s supposed to be stainless steel. I had to uninstall jb4 and use only mhd with the single bank 02, best to buy the super license. I added the motiv ethanol content analyzer. If you can buy a car built for 10 k it would be cheaper than what it cost me to build this one. I used my ebay affiliate money to buy everything but they took my account away in 2024 and kept all my commission money.

@turbolabamerica Damn brother thank you so much man for the detailed response yeah I have an 07 335xi and I'm pretty much at the end of the line for the bolt-ons and looking forward to going single turbo I have ETS stage 2 twins at the moment which are kool but I'm over the complexity of tryna manage to the 2 turbos and just tryna simplify my build with that single turbo man lol. The space it takes up in the bay with the inlets, and outlets paired with the full aluminum Rad. And 7" intercooler is becoming a pain. I have roughly the same stuff as you a little different but damn man it sounds amazing brother keep it up i could listen to your car all day . I'll be tuned in for any future upgrades you do

Hey how’d you ever fix your awd transfer case abs brake light and 4x4 I have the same year and trim having the exact problem I’ve done everything you probably done
@turbolabamerica6 күн бұрын
I had this light come on a few different times. Step 1 is using an android tablet (I have an onn tablet I bought from eBay for about 100$) then download the bimmerpro tool app (it’s free) then get a K can cable (I think that’s what it’s called(it’s used for (inpa) too, I bought mine from eBay) Once you are setup, plug into you diagnose port, enter you can info, then go to the xdrive module and read error codes. My car had the front right abs sensor code, so I did some research to find the abs run on the axles expands from rust underneath it. I bought a new ring and replaced it. Do you want me to make a video on this?

This is a very badly designed compound turbo setup. Why on earth Cummins wouldn't have just tried and true wastegate design to regulate the flow between turbos is beyond me. My M57 does and those turbos will go hundrends of thousands of miles without issues.

This maybe why the Nissan Titian Cummins v8 only sold for 5 years.

@turbolabamerica7 күн бұрын
They really made it a lot more complicated than it needed to be. It’s unusual that Cummins made a v8 but to make a turbo setup like this too seems like a lot of money spent to over complicate turbo charging a vehicle. I think they should have used a 5.9?or 6.7 Cummins engine. This vehicle was only produced for 5 years. They probably realized they messed up.

A lot of people buy these for these cars. I haven’t noticed it to be a problem. I was cleaning it and realized it was falling out. If it’s that loose it’s likely leaking even with it siting in there.

Both housings are really big for the size wheels it has. I’m going to order a turbine to try to upgrade the turbine housing. This turbo should be capable of around 400 hp after that maybe more. This vehicle makes 280 hp stock, that a lot of a factory 4 cylinder

Looks like the compressor wheel was wickedly out of balance to cause that sort of damage.
@turbolabamerica9 күн бұрын
No. I think the problem was the front seal must have gotten bent on install. I just realized it. From what I can see it look like the piston ring suddenly fused to the collar and locked up at he front seal causing a double shear on both ends of the collar. I assembled the first turbo with my employee to explain installing this seal properly. The 2nd turbo I think he built unsupervised. I should have checked it with a compressed air test but maybe I forgot to do that. It would have been noticeable if the guy put some mileage on it before taking it to the Dyno. But pushing it to the max stress in this situation just caused total destruction. Assemble error like this I most common on the tdo3,tdo4 and tdo5 turbos. You have to be careful installing the front seal.
@brettymike9 күн бұрын

Won't removing that much material from the back face weaken it significantly? Might be worth doing this to a couple of them and then testing how fast you can spin them until the metal starts showing signs of yielding (striations on the back). I have a feeling the RPM limit will now be significantly lower than the original design for that compressor.
@turbolabamerica11 күн бұрын
Some wheels a flat all the way across the back. I did think about it but I had wheels much larger than this one that I had another turbo shop cut the back of it. I’m not concerned about it even more so because it’s a smaller turbo
@johnbill796810 күн бұрын
I agree! This is typically only an issue with large turbos where the wheel mass is many times heavier and further from center

why do you have a thrust bearing thats not 360 supporting the shaft ? obviously the shaft receded back into the CHRA, impellers touched the housnig and shock loaded the shaft and broke 1) at the support bearing area 2) the thin part behind the compressor impeller
@turbolabamerica16 күн бұрын
This bearing was 360 degree but when the shaft broke it broke the bottom half of the thrust bearing. The tdo4 thrust bearing only comes in 360 degree, ours has 2 oil ports and a larger pad for the 14mm collar and spacer.
