Such a wonderful testimony...than you and thank you Jesus❤

The Serpent and Jesus were correct ... we don't ever die. Life was just a mock execution for our past incarnation misdeeds. Eventually, at the height of our suffering and decrepit old age, God will say "Okay, you've suffered enough. Your sentence is suspended." And at that point, we'll begin aging backwards and be restored to our 19-year-old glory.

No one can use religion as a comfort blanket unless he or she truly believes the claims made. If you're inclined to think that no reasonable person can in sincerely subscribe to the claims of Christianity, this video tells the story of how a thoughtful, intelligent and intellectually rigorous person made her journey from hostility and unbelief to become a person of faith *and* reason. If you have any openness to this possibility, it can be worth your time to appreciate Dr Kathleen Noller's journey and consider its implications.

@gracenotes5379 _'No one can use religion as a comfort blanket unless he or she truly believes the claims made'_ Yes, you make my point for me here. _'If you're inclined to think that no reasonable person can in sincerely subscribe to the claims of Christianity'_ Of couse people can sincerely believe in the claims of Christianity, Its the reasonableness of the claims that is in question as there is no real evidence for any God or anything supernatural. Dr Kathleen Noller's Story contains no good testible verifiable evidence that any God actually exists. She seems to be drawn to Christianity by emotions rather than evidence. With respect, John.

@@RedefineLiving Atheism does not involve believing in some supernatural benefactor in the sky looking over you. So please explain how atheism could possibly be a comfort blanket? And why do you say atheism is popular? Atheism is still in the minority and in some countries can get you ostracized or even killed.

@ Atheists pretend there is no God because they don’t want to be accountable to God. Atheism is like a child hiding under a blanket so their daddy doesn’t put them in trouble after doing something wrong. They have a juvenile mentality and that’s why they come here and say goofy stuff like “ benefactor in the sky”, but they could never engage in a mature minded conversation.

He's not mentioned because he was not a philosopher, though he was trained in philosophy. You should read Abolition of Man to get a "taste" of why he's had such staying power and is oft considered the greatest Christian apologist of the 20th Century.

Thanks to the institute for bringing a testimony of a life. I follow nate and leave comments on some of the topics he introduces. I easily forget about what events in a life that shaped the way that person thinks. A testimony that ends with a person coming to faith in Christ is evidence of the power of God to transform a life. From serving themselves and the devil, to serving their creator, the purpose fir which they were created. Amen

Heh, heh. I love these "former atheist" videos. I don't know if any of them are true or not, and I don't care. I'm an atheist because I've never seen even *one* piece of good evidence, specific enough and in enough detail that I can judge it for myself, that any of your gods - the gods various theists claim exist - are actually real, rather than just imaginary. That's it. *I don't believe you, because you don't seem to have anything distinguishable from wishful-thinking backing up your religious claims.* Again, that's it. Now, it would probably take more than one to convince me, sure. But *one specific example* would be a nice start. And when you don't have even *one,* I can't even take your religious beliefs _seriously,_ let alone believe that stuff myself. The rest of this is just silly. I don't _care_ if someone else used to be an atheist. That's a very popular claim among theists, of course. Apparently, you think that matters (although almost all of those people - Christian and Muslim alike - admit that they just returned to the religion of their childhood). Well, it doesn't matter to me, one way or another. Why would it? Atheism can't get you to "objective morality"? Um,... OK, so what? Theism can't, either, as far as I can tell, but... so what? Do you have anything _other_ than word-games backing up your claims? The "logical flaws of atheism"? Heh, heh. What's "logically flawed" about me not believing you? Stories aren't always true. Claims aren't always true. If you've got nothing distinguishable from wishful-thinking backing up your claims, how _can_ I believe you? _You_ don't automatically believe every claim you hear, do you? Only the ones you _want_ to be true, I suppose? _"Former atheist Daniel was seeking substantive answers to his looming questions that simple faith did not seem to provide. Propelled into a godless worldview, he became passionately convinced that atheism provided the clarity and answers he needed."_ Heh, heh. Can't you see how funny that whole thing is? That's like a parody of religious thinking. It's so dumb, it's hilarious! I mean, obviously, I don't know if it's true or not, but it's so ridiculously clueless, it's funny. First, poor old Daniel was raised Christian. Well, of course he was. He was indoctrinated with this stuff as a child. And you know, it's not even _slightly_ surprising that he believes the same religion as an adult that he was taught to believe as a child. That's _normal._ That's almost always how it works. (Yes, converts exist - in every direction - but they're relatively rare.) Now, I disagree about faith not being able to answer questions. Faith can answer _anything,_ as long as you don't care whether or not the answer is true. Oh, you said "substantive answers." OK, who knows? That's subjective. But, in general, answers are easy as long as you don't care whether or not the answer is _true._ But atheism providing "the clarity and answers" he wanted? Heh, heh. What are you _talking_ about? Atheism is just the lack of belief in a god or gods. Does your lack of belief in magic leprechauns provide "the clarity and answers" _you_ want? I'm sorry, but this is just _so_ silly.

@@cptrikester2671 As an atheist, why would I need to present a formal argument to justify my rational position of atheism - to suspend any acknowledgment as to the reality of any particular god until sufficient credible evidence is presented? Please explain.
@cptrikester2671Ай бұрын
@Theo_Skeptomai what would you consider to be a presentation of credible evidence? I suspect that any evidence will be rejected on the premise of it not being considered credible. The eternal skeptic without explaining your worldview. It's all in your handle / user name.
@Theo_SkeptomaiАй бұрын
@cptrikester2671 Great question. Sufficient credible evidence would convince me. I will define these criteria, beginning with the term 'evidence'. 'Evidence' is ANY presentation that substantiates the truth of a claim. 'Credible evidence' is that which is verifiable for validity, accuracy, and authenticity. 'Sufficient credible evidence' is that which can, and WILL, convince me as to the truth of a claim.
@cptrikester2671Ай бұрын
@Theo_Skeptomai I recommend watching and following James Warner Wallace. Cold case detective that wanted to know if Christianity could be true. He has done a lengthy investigation into the evidence. If you are willing to accept that, great. If you are not willing to accept that information as evidence, may the Lord help you.

The drum set in the background give me pause, especially since there is no sound containment surrounding them. That said, this was a very worthwhile message. Evangelicalism in North America is slipping into a bourgeois, non- introspective, anti-intellectual, consumerist form of fundamentalism. Thinking is anathema. It is threatening to the status-quo.

This has given me so much comfort. Just what I needed to hear because I have been struggling with unrelenting chronic nerve and muscle pain for years, but in the last 2 years I had been wishing God would take me home. I did not take care of my body over the years, suffering with anorexia since age 12 and I am 51 now and still struggle with this sin. I have gotten angry with God because I cannot do this on my own and I was thinking, where is His grace to help me through this suffering. Why??? Then I was thinking this is just punishment for the years of trying to control my own life. Feeling hopeless and then having daily panic attacks. I need to hold on and not let my pain and suffering get in the way of my relationship with the Lord. I had stopped praying for healing and just thought that this is my fault, so God will not help or heal me.

Matthew Mullins says he's not a biblical scholar, but a literary critic and a literature professor. Of course that's true. However, like CS Lewis, I think Mullins brings an insightful literary eye - intelligence and knowledge and experience - to bear on how to read and understand and love the Bible. Indeed, if I can say so humbly and respectfully, most biblical scholars don't do what Mullins does; most biblical scholars don't have a proper taste for the literary aspects of Scripture. In this respect, it's very helpful to read Mullins' book Enjoying the Bible, then move onto reading books in the field of biblical theology. Biblical theology is primarily about tracing the main storyline of redemption along with many other storylines (e.g. the temple, atonement, the Messiah) across a book or books of the Bible or across the entire Bible. For example, biblical theology looks at how the story of redemption unfolds from Genesis to Revelation. As such, Mullins' book complements the biblical theological work of scholars like Don Carson, Tom Schreiner, Greg Beale, T. Desmond Alexander, L. Michael Morales, Mitchell Chase, Jim Hamilton, Graeme Goldsworthy, and others. Mullins' book whets one's appetite for knowing and living and loving the Word of God. May Mullins prove a blessing to many! 😊 Edit. A good next book to read after Mullins' Enjoying the Bible is The Dawning of Redemption: The Story of the Pentateuch and the Hope of the Gospel by Ian Vaillancourt. 😊
