I'll have to look out for the 35mm version. I have the Auto Chinon 28mm f2.8 in m42 screw mount, it came attached to a chinon cx slr film camera I bought for £10. I haven't used it yet but I've ordered an adapter so I can use it on my Panasonic Lumix g3 micro 4/3 camera 📷

S1 is super good for adapting vintage lens. My only complaints are 1) the buttons on the back dial are bit stiffy and 2) it cannot record full open gate at 30p without a crop (while s5m2 can).

Samsies! I was looking for a camera to adapt my m42 and FD lenses. Got mine for a similar price at Adorama as well, and it also came with the 6k update. I only really dislike how huge it is (I prefer smaller bodies).

Nice! I find the size is much less of an issue when I adapt small rangefinder lenses.

If you liked the Serenar 35mm you should try the Serenar f1.9 50mm collapsible lens, It's a beautiful lens that's sharp, production was 1949 - 51 Canon thought they could take on Leica after WWII and produced this lens. The cost of making the lens was too expensive and didn't make a profit for Canon so they introduced a rangefinder body to go with it ie the body would make the profit however after two years production Canon realised that it was just too expensive and shelved the production re designed the lens and went along with a new 50mm, 135mm and your 35mm to complete the set. Try and find it as it's worth every penny.

Thanks for the tip! I'll keep an eye out for that one. I find these early 50's rangefinder lenses to be the sweet spot for size, performance, and character.

This was quite interesting. I have bought an A7S for use with my manual glass but toying with the idea of an A7R variant in the future. I will say as a stills shooter that IBIS is not just for video. I confess to being spoilt by my Olympus cameras, but not having to take a tripod to take a 1 or 10 second shot is amazing. That said, my A7S lacks IBIS as well and I am simply having to remember my rules from film photography - which is what this camera is for really.

I'm sorry, you are entitled to your own opinion, but I have been using this lens for a while and it's fine. Perhaps you received a bad copy or something, and that sucks, but what you are describing sounds ridiculous and this is nothing like a cctv lens.

If he really found that the optical formula was identical, he would have shown both diagrams.

Picked up mine after the video to see if I have the same results, not really. The flaring might be an issue with a defective product, the image quality is fine, i mean I got it one sale for like 30 bucks I think, but its ite, same with edge sharpness, nowwhere near this bad. But I have to agree with the focus ring being just meh and the fact a couple reviewers hyped it up to be such a great budget lens. Shouldve just gotten vintage glass tbh.
@luisbustamante986910 күн бұрын
I've got a Pergear 25/f1.8 which looks identical to the reviewed lens. It has a tight match with the 24mm manual frame in the finder of the X-Pro series. I agree the ergonomics are a bit iffy but the image quality is great across the frame from wide open. It's difficult to find 25mm vintage lenses as compact as these.
@CaleMcCollough15 күн бұрын
I don't follow you on this one. You've clearly never shopped around for CCTV lenses, they're way worse than that. Sounds like you got a bad copy of the lens that isn't working right. I haven't had any problems with their lenses. They are some of the best. You get a lens like that for those imperfections, but I would never buy a lens that cheap unless I wanted that look.

@dirtyoldlenses17 күн бұрын
Just search for 25mm f1.8 and cctv lenses come up with the same optical formula. A new company is not going to invest in developing optics that already exist, when they can just buy cheap lenses made a few miles away in Hong Kong. It's nothing new, but somehow this one feels more dishonest.

Bought it when it was first released with the 17mm pancake lense in the box. I still use it today in 2024 even though the IBIS is already dead. It's a great daytime walk around camera and a conversation starter.

The dead IBIS is a sad defect in all early gen Pens. I got failed IBIS on E-P1, P2, and P-3. Still, they’re fun.

Just about everyone is saying that OM Systems and Panasonic need to bring out more cameras in the small MFT format, rather than concentrate only on high end. There are specialist cameras using MFT lenses outside the OM/Pana orbit. If the big two won't do it, what about one of the others? I had a Nikon 1, which sold me on the usefulness of small ICL cameras, but MFT seems to be the best option these days to meet that demand!

I like it. Barrell distortion, vignetting, and catseye bokeh at some distances are borderline swirly, and it's still very sharp in the center. flic.kr/p/2qmEWwT

i owned the 'modern' Canon 50 1.4 with the electronic focus. but the lens design seems to be mostly unchanged (just the coatings). the bokeh from this series of lenses is super unique! i only sold mine due to poor focus control. i wish i could try one of the vintage canon's but its not possible (with EF system)

I am using a Canon FD 50MM on my EF with an adaptor which has a lens inline. Which makes it full range focus. Got mine used for $8. not $55.00. Need to set it to manual and take notes about the ISO shutter speed and F stops.

@JimIBobIJones21 күн бұрын
Its still viable and comparable to modern M43 bodies -but that's more of an indictment of the state of M43 and how Olympus/OM Systems and Panasonic have let the format down rather than how well the E-P1 has aged. There's been a massive lack of investment in the M43 format. The first m43 cameras were very innovative when it first came out (mirrorless and 5 axis IBIS was way ahead of its time) but nothing significant has really been added. Most of the cameras are still ancient contrast detect autofocus and the very few phase detect bodies are well over a decade behind the competition. The processing is also incredibly slow and doesn't seem like much progress has been made between "Trupic" generations.

@KarstenMeyer29 күн бұрын
This E-P1 was my first mirrorless camera. I loved it, but I hated it, too. It had so many quirks. E.g. it had focus magnification, but this didn't switch off when pressing the shutter button. But hey, Olympus moved on! Just this week I got a Pen E-P7. Nice flip up screen, 20 mp sensor, two dials, many buttons - I love it! (But beware: there is no way to get an EVF for the E-P7!)
