I think the new firmwares fixed it. Or maybe the new v60 sd cards, I'm still not eniterly sure. But now it's a lot better. However the Leica 50-200mm that I have stabilizes a lot better than my 100-300mm MKII. And I figured that at around 200-300mm it's better NOT to use IS Boost because it makes the video very jumpy, it's better have a nice and fluid stabilization with the standard mode.

An update to anyone who's still watching this video and wondering about the jittery stabilization in 5.7K. I had a couple of firmware updates, now I'm on 2.1 and I have no stabilization issues anymore. In 5.7K the stabilization just as good as in 4K. I don't know if it was the firmware update that fixed it, or because I bought a Leica 50-200mm and some v60 memory cards which I'm using now. They even updated some lens firmware. I talked to panasonic customer support as well, they asked me if the problem was solved with firmware 2.1, so I think they made an update although it doesn't show in the firmware log. And I think they fixed it with version 2.0 earlier on. If you've got similar or maybe different experience with this, you can comment below, I'd like to hear your thoughts. Thanks

Thanks for sharing all shooting information. On m'y smartphone, image quality and stabilization are perfect, although may be too sharp to have a cinematic look I personnaly prefer. I suppose that G9 ii has the same "Boost Stabilization" function (which adds a lot of stability when caméra is static) as my GH5 ii. If this is the case, since most of your rushes are taken with no camera mouvements and in 5.7 k I would Make two suggestions. You may try 1 - To shoot in 25 FPS with "Boost Stabilization" on 2 - Since you have enough resolution to zoom in thé image, you could easily create some mouvement in post. I'm thinking to migrate towards G9 ii. Hence, should you post some more movies with these set ups, I would be very interested in watching them.
@Weechoo
@Weechoo 10 ай бұрын
There are many people who prefer the more cinematic look of a softer image. I personally really like the sharp and crisp image of the 5.7K. When I look at the monitor it's like looking out the window. On my old G9 the video quality wasn't as detailed as the picture quality, on this one in 5.7K I don't see any difference. I'm wondering if the image stabilization on the GH5 II is similar to the old GH5/G9 or it's more like the new GH6/G9II. They changed the name from IS Lock to IS Boost, but it's not just the name, I found that they are a little bit different. The old one was more of a tripod mode, but with a slight movement it became very jumpy. The new one is more fluid, not so "tripod like" but it doesn't have those sudden jumps, so overall it's more usable. I don't normally shoot 25 or 30p because it really needs an nd filter, otherwise the fast shutter speed doesn't look nice. That's the reason I use 50/60p because it doesn't matter what shutter speed I use it's still nice and smooth. Not very cinemtaic I guess, but that's not my intention. I did another video with my old G9, where I used the 6K photo mode, you can check out my channel, the latest video about Venice. I shot everything in 6K photo mode, which I think is the same as the anamorphic mode on the GH5. It can shoot 4:3 or 3:2 aspect ratio at around 6K resolution at 30P 10bit. That gives me a lot of flexibility, I can pan, tilt or zoom in the image in post. Most of those shots were just static shots, some are on a tripod, but I added some movement in post. Very useful. On the G9 II there is a 5.8K mode which is 4:3 I think, that would be the same thing, although it's limited to 25/30P. In shots where there isn't a lot of movement, like landscapes, it can be very useful. I don't think the difference is that big between the 5.8K on the G9II and the 6K photo mode on the old G9, they are pretty much the same. Little bit more resolution on the new camera, but to my eyes both look really good. In a couple of days I'm gonna fly to Lanzarote so I'm planning to fill my 2x 512GB memory cards with loads of shots, so in January I might upload some new stuff. If you can't wait that long, just ask Santa for a G9 II but make sure you can return it if you don't like it. To me 5.7K and the new autofocus is worth it, but if I was shooting 4K for the softer cinematic look... well, I'm not sure I'd upgrade. It's definitely a better camera but I'm not sure it justifies the price.

I tried these white cards and discs but naturally I found that the best for me is to set it to something that looks like the real world on the cameras screen. On my old G9 it was 6700K but this new one has more saturated colors, so the 6000K looks closest to the natural daylight. It might change when summer comes. The difference is more obvious when the camera is set to the extremes, like 5.7K without E-stab and 4K with highes e-stab mode. If you want some uniformity in your project, even if the output is 4K only and ends up only on youtube, it might not be the best idea to mix these settings too much. Some shots might be outstanding while others just average. And what I see is that many people use codecs which are not supported very well by youtube, so after uploading they don't quite look the same. But when it's the right format even a youtube video can look amazing.

I didn't consider smaller camera because I think better get actual pant pocketable camera like Sony RX100 series or go proper size because camera in between still need a bag to carry yet doesn't have good handling and EVF like the not much bigger size A7RV. I curious about macro and micro world, but I can just google them right as specialist will do that for us and even if I shoot, they will be more or less the same? Does magnification ratio need to multiple crop sensor ratio? If need to multiple, does the object will appear as it's true size no matter if it's full frame or MFT if the final mag ratio is 1:1? Is there a way to make the in camera JPG output colors match Hasselblad Natural Color Science of these camera? Is there a way to change the orange theme to yellow theme in Sony menu, with accessibility functions maybe? Is the Zoom M3 mic good? What's the best way to get surround sounds audio and mono shotgun when I want to? To get stereo but the sound in center screen clear, better have a 3 channels setup where 2 for stereo and 1 for mono shotgun? Or 4 channels with 2 points forward and 2 point backward? Sennheiser MKE 440 patented stereo mic marketed as it make the sound from center screen clearer, is it really only possible with it or just adjust stereo mic at that angle will get same result, that mic is just more compact and one piece V shape?

I can't answer all of your questions because I've never had these cameras. But I just tried a Tamron 16-300 with a speedbooster on the G9 II and it wasn't a very good experience. It's not the 18-300 though. At 16mm it wasn't nice at all. It might be worth swapping lenses fo the best quality. I was thinking about the X1500 but the image quality what I saw in some youtube videos wasn't great at all, nowehere near a mirrorless camera system. Iphone is the same. Some people are gonna like it but if you've ever used a "proper" camera before, you might be disappointed. For photos these phones might be allright but for videos they suck. Every smartphone footage I saw was oversharpened, very bad looking image. And often they CAN NOT be adjusted, even with a third party app! The photo quality isn't too bad though. I've never had a full frame camera like the A7RV but it has a very big megapixel sensor. So techinaly you can crop a very good quality photo out of a 61MP image. I saw sample photos, it's incredible. For video... I just don't know. For ultrawide I'm not sure but I think I'll get the Leica 9mm f1.7 in the near future beause of it's apperature. It can be used indoors because it's that bright. I don't have it yet but it makes sense when I sometimes end up being in a church or mosque, a wide angle lens with a bright apperature would be very useful. Where I need light and wide angle too. It seems to be more useful than a 8-18 f2.8-4 for example. I don't know about mics, I don't use them. I wish smartphones were there yet but they're not. I've got the Galaxy S9 which had the best 4K video I've seen from a phone. These new generation phones came and everything went south. I don't do photos though, my experience is about videos, and with these new phones they went in a very bad direction in my opinion. I chose the G9 II because I always had Panasonic, I knew what to expect... or kind of. And with the right lens at the right situations it can do a very good job. And I don't need to carry a lot of stuff or a backpack full of lenses. It's good for photos as well as videos. To me it seems to be like the ideal compromise between all worlds if you know what I mean. But that's just my opinion.

Mist filter? Does the image look that bad? :D I didn't use any filter, what you might see that the leica was wide open f2.8 at 12mm, but I'm not sure. Maybe my lenses need better cleaning. :D I agree that when I use e-stabilization, especially at high setting the image gets soft in 4K. It also might depend on where the Sun's shining from. Some shots seem to be more contrasty, therefore appear to be sharper when the Sun's behind me. For the best sharpness it's the best to turn the e-stab off in 4K. In 5.7K the standard e-stab doesn't make the image visibly softer on a 4K screen, at least with a sharp lens like the leica.

What is treaking me the most compared to GH6, outside of the AF of course, is the difference in color, by exemple, the greens are very flashy on the G9II. Overall I think maybe the colors from the GH6 are nicer, warmer but the right tint. The G9II 10bits files are solid enough to match the GH6, but I would have prefered to get the same colors out of the box.
@Weechoo

I've got a couple of lenses and I found that the colors are very different on each one. Even the three olympus (14-150, 12-200, 45f1.8) lenses are different from each other. And the leica is somewhat more vibrant and contrasty. But the camera is different as well, so it's hard to make a conclusion. By the way I set the white balance to 6000K, I prefer to use a slightly warmer tone and not changing it. I can tweak that in post when I don't like it. On the old G9 the sweet spot was 6700K, on the new one that's too much.

Thank you for you video. Beautiful images. But I don't think it's possible to see the real difference in quality without cropping on the originale files. I tested the G9II this morning with E-S On and Off, I don't see too much quality difference to be honest. HOWEVER, the difference on details quality is huge between the GH5/G9 and the G9II in low light. By exemple the way the details renders on skin is really different, the G9II seems to apply some smoothing and sharpening, making the image a bit unappealing when cropping, frames look way more JPG photo quality with some NR and sharpening enabled, whereas the G9 and GH5 look more like raw photo quality (with of course more visible noise). Applying some sharpening in post make the video even worse on the G9II, like when in Lightroom, you add sharpening after using noise reduction before.
@Weechoo
@Weechoo 11 ай бұрын
Thank you! On a big screen I can see the difference in wider shots, not so much in close ups. There isn't a big difference when you turn on standard e-stab, however in 4K mode in High setting I can see that the image gets soft. 5.7K isn't too bad, it's just the e-stab doesn't work properly. Yes I agree about the low light. The old G9 was more like a raw photo, this one has a kind of oversharpened kind of noise. I've not done a proper comparison between them yet, I'll do that in the next couple of days. And I'm wondering if 5.7K would look less processed than 4K, I haven't tried that either.

The AF is great, I only had the out of focus bug in video when using my 25mm Pro f1.2, I solved the issue using +2 for sensitivity. With my Panasonic lenses like the 25-50mm or 10-25mm, I don't need to change anything, focus is very accurate et very fast. Even better than my S5II I think. I need to use the camera more, but like on the GH6 I don't like the output in low light, fine details look smoothed out on skin, unlike the GH5 and the G9. Sure, the footage looks cleaner than on these "old" cameras, but about the details I don't know, it's not my taste. My brother in Christ, there's no room to do eIS in 5.7k, the sensor is not wide enough horizontally, in pixels. Did you read the manual, like ever? Calm down and explain why the C4K mode who use the same part of the sensor than 5,7K (even more actually because the 5,7K crops a bit more) has better stabilization (no matter using Electronic Stabilization or not) ?
@Weechoo
@Weechoo 11 ай бұрын
Okay I tell you what I found. Some people think (including me a little while ago) that the e-stabilization is some magic sensor readout thing, where it reads out different part of the sensor to stabilize the footage. What I found with this camera that it's not true. Electronic stabilization crops in the actual video, so it loses quality. The output is 4K or whatever but it's just oversampled image. It's the same thing than stabilizing in post, just more convenient and sometimes works better. What surprised me the most was when I shoot pixel to pixel mode (previously called extra teleconverter) and I apply e-stabilization, IT CROPS IN! Isn't it supposed to be pixel to pixel in the first place? I'm gonna upload a new video, which clearly shows how the image quality gets worse, especially with this new "High" e-stab mode. And why is IBIS or dual is 2 worse in 5.7K? It's supposed to be mechanical to my understanding.
@Weechoo
@Weechoo 11 ай бұрын
@@GHuser85-rp6xz I wanted to say the exact same thing. One of my theory is that the sensor is actually a tiny bit bigger so it uses some software trick to cut the edges, smoothing out things. So even when you turn the e-stabilization off it still has some kind of electronic correction going on. In 5.7K it might be too much processing power, or they must sacrifice the image quality slightly to fix it which they chose not to do so.
@GHuser85-rp6xz

@@Weechoo Yes this is the point of E-S, it's like using the stabilization in Premiere Pro, it crops inside the video to stabilize. Of course you lose quality. Thanks for your reply. I'm not too happy to hear that. It wasn't a cheap camera and I already own the original G9. I can't imagine coming back from a long holiday finding that many shots are out of focus. Does it happen with single autofocus as well or just with continuous? The reason I bought this one over the GH6 is the "better" stabilization and autofocus. I don't know now if I should return it. I tried it on moving subjects and the focus is following them much better than with the old G9. So it clearly improved. The problem was at 12mm when I shot the scenery like the first clip in this video. It's not possible to see on the sceen that it's slightly out of focus. When I zoom in on a bird it seems to keep it in focus without hunting. But I must do more tests to confirm it.

Beautiful video and thank you for your previous comments on this video. I shoot sports and the range on this might as well be that of a camcorder, but on a hybrid body! I definitely plan on getting this lens thanks to your review!

Hey Viktor, this is a great video! I wanted to know, can you give me a few reference timecodes for which shots are done with your GoPro 11? Specifically 00:05-00:12, and 00:17-00:24 is that the GoPro in action?
@Weechoo
@Weechoo Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks! Sure, I'm not sure how to add timestamps though. 00:05-00:29 that's all gopro 00:29-00:49 panasonic. 00:49-01:06 that's gopro again. All timelapse shots are made with the gopro except one, the desert sunrise shot was shot on a small olympus pen. Those panoramic wide angle, panning shots are gopro, I used the panasonic where I needed to zoom in a little bit, I wasn't even bothered using my wide angle lens.. The waterfall shots are gopro as well, and the night lapse on the end also.

Hi just found your videos whilst searching for for the 12 - 200 lens, I have just bought the Panasonic 14 -140 to pair up with my G9 however after initial tests I’m not exactly blown away with the results. The contrast is mushy ( for want of a better word ) the the sharpness is soft. Your focus and contrast are spot on, I first thought you must be using an Olympus camera but then spotted the full title and see you used the G9 as well. Can I ask have you found any negatives using that lens with a Panasonic camera? Obviously there is no image stabilisation in the lens, how is the focus speed in video mode, also what is the build quality like? The 14 -140 is bit of a let down being mostly plastic construction. Superb quality video , thank you.

Hi, I've got a broken 14-140 mk2 I've used it for a long time (before I broke it) and then when it finally happened I had to buy some new lenses and I figured that the new lenses are a lot better. Many people have problem with the stabilization for example, the 14-140 even though it has a dual whatever stabilization, it's shaky as hell. And I've got the olympus 14-150 and 12-200 without stabilization and they are a lot better using only the sensor stabilization in the G9! I don't know why is that but the unstabilized olympus lenses perform better than the dual stabilized 14-140. However I've got a 12-60 and 100-300 and their dual stabilization is nice and steady. It's just something might be wrong with the 14-140. Some people says that the old 14-140 with the mega ois works a lot better, even though it doesn't have the dual stab. I can't say that the 12-200 is perfect, it' nice and sharp at f8 apperature but wide open it can be quite soft sometimes. And it depends on the lights too. I just saw a Tony Northrup video today where they explain what things can ruin your sharpness, one thing is the bad lighting. I experienced it a lot of times, how bad light can make the image soft and ugly. I was lucky because on this day the Sun was out so I could make some nice colorful and contrasty footages, but the cloudy weather might change it all. The focus is working well on the 12-200, I mean it's a panasonic focus but it's the same as with any other panasonic lens. On the olympus 14-150 I found that the camera was hunting for focus all the time, especially when I zoomed in during recording. But again, the 12-200 doesn't have this issue. By the way I added a very little sharpening and saturation in post. It doesn't make a huge difference though, the 12-200 is still a better lens in my opinion. But my pana 12-60 is still a little bit sharper on the wide end and the 100-300 is still a little bit better on the long end, but to me it's more important that I don't need to swap lenses all the time.

@@Weechoo How does olympus 12-200 work on the telephoto range (100-200) with IS LOCK mode on g9? Is it possible to achieve a good result? My 14-140 m2 has disgusting micro jitter effect
@Weechoo
@Weechoo Жыл бұрын
@@bizarro659 If you don't stop it down to f8 it looses contrast and sharpness when you zoom in to 100mm and over. The 14-150 seems to be better on the tele end, and it's a lot more stable, however I might have a bad copy of the 12-200. At 200mm the components seem to be loose, resulting in shakyness, my 14-150 doesn't have this problem. Actually I started to prefer the 14-150, it's lighter too, easier to hold it steadily. My 14-140 mk2 had some crazy micro jitter, the olympus lenses seem to be a lot more stable, both of them. But I'm still struggling to figure out what the best lens would be for travelling. My panasonic 12-60 is clearly the winner, then my 45-175 is the sharpest of all, but my 100-300 mk2 has some kind of nice color and depth although it isn't the sharpest. But I still hate swapping lenses on the go. I use IS Lock almost all the time however sometimes it doesn't work very well, it can make the footage jumping in all directions like crazy, and some other time it can be nice and smooth. Often when the footage is too shaky I just turn the IS lock off then if gets a lot better. And sometimes I just have to turn the camera off and back on then it fixes the problem. I think that's a problem with the camera not the lens because it happened with all of my lenses. And if it's too windy or I'm too exhaused from hiking I can't get nice steady handheld footage, while some other days it's perfect, like in this video. So this whole thing is weird. You should really try or rent some olympus lens to see how it works for you. Or just buy some on ebay second hand then sell it if you don't like it. What I found is that my 14-140 mk2 has some stabilization issues in video mode. But I've got some old footage with that lens too, I never uploaded them so I think in the next couple of days I'll do it. Actually the videos don't look bad at all, but when I try to compare the lenses I just don't like shooting with it. Another idea is that you can try the old 14-140 with mega ois, some people say that it doesn't have that micro jitter as the new one, but I don't have it to compare it.

Thank you! It was the last four days of the carnival exactly when the pandemic started in Italy. I can't believe that it's nearly two years now. We came back on the last day, but the events were cancelled, the San Marco Square was full of police and army, and we had no idea what was going on, I tought it was normal. My sister called me that I must leave the city immediately because the news were talking some BS, the media shown Venice as some warzone, however people didn't seem to care too much. They were still dressing up and enjoying the last day even though it was cancelled. :) So did we, no stress.

Seems not bad. But what about video shooting from hands on the long end? Does camera stab fix hands tremor?
@Weechoo
@Weechoo 2 жыл бұрын
It looks like to me that between 150-200mm it starts to be too shaky. The olympus 14-150mm is not that shaky interestingly. Neither of them has stabilization built in. It looks like the camera stabilization smooths out the small shakes, especially when the e-stabilization is turned on. But on some days when my hand are too shaky (after climbing a hill for example), the long end is just too "jumpy". My panasonic 100-300mm has much better stabilization on the long end when it's windy or I'm shaking too much, the dual stabiliization helps a lot, but on some quiet days, when walking in the park, I don't feel a big difference. So it's very interesting, and the answer to this question is not very simple. I wish panasonic made a similar travel zoom lens...

a lot of memories come back to me with this album, back then I was a teen, now as an adult I still find this album truly fascinating, I also remember that you had a few songs that were not part of the album like for example Phantom Servant, don't you have plans in releasing those songs officially as an EP or something? that would be really nice! ;D

Thanks for your kind words. To be honest it's been a while since I did anything musical. I was young when I made this album, I'm an adult now too. :) Adult life is so full of problems that I barely have the time or the mood to create something new stuff and an album takes an awful lot of time. I feel like I'd like to do it again but this time everything will be different, the music will be different as I'm a different man now. I don't know what will be the future of these unreleased, old songs, because I did so many different styles that these single songs won't fit together in the same album. It's maybe just me worrying about unnecessary things though. :)
