Bro no matter how cool this guitar looks, I still can't trick myself to spend that much money on a Chinese guitar. Gibson is making sure those Epi's look good but hell no man. More power to you for having disposable income you don't have to think about.

I will never knock on anyone for playing Epiphone, like more power to you! It’s an awesome way to get into Gibson territory without completely breaking the bank. I just probably couldn’t ever be seen playing one, maybe it’s an ego thing or something idk. I almost caved and got that newer Tommy Thayer signature that came out a couple years ago. But yeah, I 100% do not mind taking months if not years to get an actual Gibson, especially one of those Mod Shop ones. At the end of the day I’m not the biggest fan of 24.75” scale lengths

Very cool! I love three pickup SGs with trems. Still don’t love the price even if it has the Gibson headstock and the custom shop is involved. It’s still made in China and doesn’t use premium woods, hardware, etc. Squiers all have the original headstocks and also don’t use premium components. But Squier prices don’t break $500. Pickups don’t add $850 of value for a demo, or $1,000 if you buy one brand new. You can get American Fenders, American G&Ls, Harmonys (made in Michigan) Japanese, and Korean guitars for that price and they all carry the main brand name rather than the budget line‘s brand. On the import front, PRS SEs and G&L Tributes are made in Indonesia, cost less than this, and are largely, though not completely, faithful to the American designs. The G&Ls even use American pickups and hardware. So yes, this is another Gibson/Epiphone money-grab, and this is before we even discuss relative quality control between competing brands.

I'm a guitar player in my 60s, and I prefer Fender (and Fender-style) instruments. I will likely never own another Gibson, for a few reasons. Gibson represents to me the Dixie Southern mentality of the good-ol'-boys, the KKK and the racists of the south. Other guitar brands do not have this baggage. In addition, Gibsons sound like crap.

44 year old here. Gibson isn’t going anywhere but they are irrelevant. They are well crafted trash. Don’t get me wrong, I love them and I will be buying several at some point. I can afford any guitar I want. Now that said, they are trash. A guitar that will not stay in tune isn’t even a guitar. I will buy one nice one, probably from the 80s (reasons) and a couple of relatively new studios with locking nuts installed. First there are a couple more strats i need to buy and a couple of older PRSs. If you can only afford a couple of decent guitars get something more modern or some Stratocasters. In my experience Strats are very consistent in quality and the lower end ones are still pretty good. I bought a Squire CV and it isn’t that different from my Fender Elite in terms of playability. FWIW, Most guitars are actually cheaper now adjusted for inflation.

Gibson has one great sound . . . just one, that's it ! With my Tele I can get many many great sounds. Gibsons are too expensive to be accessible to the average person. Rock & Roll is supposed to be accessible ! I am only three years from being a boomer, and I strongly dislike Gibson. Historically the Gibson management has been evil and exclusive. All those law suits. Those hilarious corporate decisions. That cumulative dark Karma for Gibson is huge. When I empty my mind and then think Gibson, what comes first to my mind is "no !". I can even get a better fatter sound with my Tele. My Tele sounds way better than any Gibson. A wider range etc. So I haver zero use for a Gibson, and I am 57.

The “label” is Inspired By Gibson CUSTOM so no it doesn’t apply to all the latest models. Get your facts straight. Also middle pickup just lower it since you’re not gonna use it and it won’t be in your way.

I dig it. I like just about everything with these new inspired by Gibson models, except for the larger necks. Hopefully they'll make some other models with more of a 60's style neck in the near future. As an aside, I also like the 3 pickup configuration. I played a Les Paul Black Beauty for years and it never caused me grief. It messed up a couple of my friends when they borrowed it, but it always felt natural. Cool video! Keep up the good work.

Very interesting points you've touched. Gibson guitars are more expensive because they are actually harder to make than a bolt-on guitar, you need quality woods that not only look good but are stable and sound good. The design is roughly same as old as a Tele or Strat but no one complaints of a Tele, Strat, Jaguar being outdated. Haters are gonna hate.

I’ve owned now 7 Les Pauls at various times, all Gibsons, including a CS R9. Not one of them was a dud. The lighter ones tend to be resonant unplugged and more airy sounding when amplified, the heavier ones have a meatier tone in my experience. I think right around 9lbs is the perfect weight you want to look for in a LP. Definitely way more work goes into making a LP than a typical bolt-on neck Fender or whatever so I agree there’s more room for variance. If you watch Trogly’s show you can see it, some examples play like dogs or are somewhat dead sounding. My personal experience has been only good, but I only owned two that cane out of the Henry J era, the rest have been since then. QC is not as good as other guitar companies, it’s just a fact, you’re paying extra to have the Gibson logo on the headstock and Gibson’s have the best resale value of any brand.

Gibsons are largely hand made by human beings here in America under high demand and human beings are NOT perfect. Maybe Tuesday they put a new guy in QC without a lot of experience, who knows? EVERY guitar manufacturer produces blemished, imperfect guitars occasionally and EVERY guitar company has returns and repairs. Lesson here for you dude is DO NOT BUY ANY GUITAR FROM ANY COMPANY WITHOUT SEEING IT IN PERSON AND PLAYING IT FIRST. I own 3 Gibson Les Paul’s bought from GC in person and ALL are perfect. Stop whining and send it back. It’s under warranty and they’ll fix it. I will tell you this though. You can spend the same amount on an Indonesian, Chinese or Mexican axe BUT see what happens to their resale value after 6 months versus the Gibson. What kind of warranty do THEY offer? Does the wood breathe through that thick layer of poly? Is it even REAL mahogany? Was it built by an American supporting our U.S. economy OR is your money going into the hands of our nations enemies and built by an oppressed individual under slave labor conditions? Next time you watch professionals play a concert, look at the headstock and count the Gibsons versus Indonesian, Chinese and Jap guitars and tell me how many famous guitar Gods use them. Attend a guitar show and count them and look at their resale values. Are you blowing money OR INVESTING IN AMERICA? My Gibsons are perfect because I bought them in a store after inspecting and playing them. Do you buy cars without test driving or looking at them? Think about it.

Gibsons biggest competitor are used Gibsons. Most used Gibsons are located in the US. Because of that the international market is of critical value for Gibson, just because there the used market isn't as saturated. Right now they lean heavily into Gibsons as "non-depreciating assets" for boomers with a bunch of cash laying around. That's the whole limited signatures north of 10k thing. Meanwhile international market is getting saturated by the plethora of different brands, from budget up to really nice, sometimes doing a better job at what Gibson does than Gibson for less money (like the Japanese or Maybach from czech republic). Gibson tried to (and failed to) cash into their brand recognition with lifestyle products pre-bancrupcy, in fact the bancrupcy was caused by acquisitions of consumer electronic companies. Think Marshall Bluetooth speakers and headphones. Or Harley Davidson jackets and belts. That was what Gibson wanted to achieve. They didn't, instead they trashed their reputation in guitars - so much so that I bought several 2018 and 2019 guitars for 400 bucks.

Man i feel old af lmao. When i think gibson I think Jimmy Page for his 58 and 59 les pauls and the famous EDS1275, Alex Lifeson easily for playing a gibson ES335, sort of Randy Rhoades since he used jacksons and his custom pokadot V probably more than his LP custom, not a fan but Slash plays one and is wildly known for playing Gibson les pauls, Buckethead plays his baratone les paul, Angus Young with the Gibson sg, Tony Iommi with his Gibson SG, even James Hetfield plays his Gibson Explorer and is pretty know for it lol. Kirk Hammet plays a bunch of Gibson LPs, Joe Bonamassa has like every Gibson ever made and is known for playing gibsons lol.

I think it's the classic case of the haves vs. have nots. I have a number of Gibsons and love each one of them. I think they are worth the money, at least for the Gibson USA stuff. I don't have any experience with the Gibson Custom Shop stuff, which is out of my price range (well, my wife's price range :). If the people have a Gibson and then want to bash them, that's one thing. But the haters just spouting crap when they don't own a Gibson or wouldn't buy one anyway, who cares what they have to say? And why the heck do they spend so much time watching videos about stuff they can't afford and commenting on them. I don't watch Ferrari videos because it would be pointless. 😀

I have owned many SGs, including an original 1961 les paul (before they were even called "SG"). I think they sound great and are very versatile. They also look really cool. That said, I simply never have bonded with one. They feel delicate to me because of how thin they are, and they are neck heavy, which I find unbearable. They also feel too long to me because of how they hang on you and where the neckjoint is--the result is this super vulnerable headstock an arm-length away. It is a nightmare to play live on a small stage for that reason. Lastly, the wide, thin and flat neck are uncomfortable to me.

I think if Epiphone continue to massively produce guitars with the open book headstock we will have as many guitars as we have with gravestone headstock, and that mean the kalamazoo ones will be more hard to find in several years/decades! And personnaly I prefer the kalamazoo headstock for an Epiphone, it's a little different than a Gibson which is cool for my tastes...

Dude. Almost all of the bands you names broke in the nineties. That’s 25 years ago. The rest were prep 2005! I think it’s fair to say they are irrelevant to music today. I do agree with your point that another Slash could bring it back. However, it’s been a while since a new guitar hero emerged. Maybe Matt Bellamy? I recently heard about a music festival where the lions share of the guitars played were fenders so in that aspect, I think they may be losing some relevancy and maybe they’re just not capitalizing on being the guitar of choice for a lot of the bands you mentioned. as far as them being overpriced goes, I think that claim holds more water today than it did in the 50s because we’ve come along way with manufacturing guitars to the point where Gibson guitars don’t blow cheaper guitars out of the water. If you looked at a cheap guitar from the 50s and compared it to a Gibson, it would be night and day in 2024 so many guitars can be almost if not as good as a Gibson. My Schechter solo custom is a great example. I played a Gibson and I didn’t think I was missing out on anything.

Folks should play what works for them... 40 years as a workin' sideman...my tools of choice for the last 4 years: Grote strat, 89$ with 33$ worth of Artec Alnicos Grote 335 thang, stock Jin Ho Korean pickups. I'd never realize a profit if I used expensive stuff. But I understand. Play what works for your unique needs. Gibson have already filed for bankruptcy once. Of course demand is going to fall dramatically once the boomers have gone. There will still be a demand, but if it can’t support the business, the business will either cease to exist or have to dramatically downsize. Im always shocked that there’s a market for £8000 plus Gibson Murphy Labs, I think some people think they’re an investment like a vintage guitar until they try to sell them and can only get 50% of what they paid (unless they wait 20 years for inflation to catch up).
