How does one undo a dual boot setup? I was on El Capitan and setup up a dual boot with Catalina. I want to merge/consolidate everything to Catalina. I realize not all the apps from el cap will function. Mostly just want my data files. Thanks!

This is the most arduous processes I've ever seen. Glad i never use Apple products, haha. Thanks for the help mate, appreciate it.

My Macbook Air has been acting strange lately, leading me to this video. I cannot find XProtect in my system setting's library. Should I be concerned? I have searched to see if I can download it, but I need help finding something. The latest date under the system report is 7/6/2023, but nothing after that. Not finding it under my Macintosh HD under CoreServices is alarming. Does anyone have any advice?

I know it has been a while now since i have creates other video, but i will be bringing out an update to this one as it seems a popular topic. The reason you cant find it is apple has changed the OS quite a bit since this video but it is still there just a bit deeper. With regards to being concerned would be impossible for me to answer without knowing much more on your habits as you still pretty much need to install the malware yourself. If you are uncertain the only software i can recommend is called bitdefender. If you scan and find problems i wouldn’t worry as most are often in downloads or your email which doesn’t directly effect you. If you find anything in anyone of your libraries this is a different matter and will need further investigation but in my experience this is quite rare.

Hmmm… in Terminal, erasing disk 100%, copying to disk 100% but then states… ‘IA app name cookie write failed… The copy of the installer app failed’. Any ideas anyone as I’ve been going around and around for sometime trying to sort this. I’m trying to downgrade from Big Sur to Mojave so the software I have from previous Mac will work etc.

Can you tell me at what point or what you are doing when this error occurs? If erasing is 100% and copying is 100% is it when you are trying to boot from the usb key?

@@MrDazzathedude Hi, thanks for responding. This is when I’m in Terminal creating the USB bootable drive, so I’ve just pasted in the relevant path & changed volume to my USB key name etc, terminal has asked me for my password key etc. I can see that on the desktop the USB drives name has changed and on the key the Mojave os has transferred from applications but in terminal it has my above msg about failing. Somebody mentioned when initially in disk utility to erase the USB key and set up as EX-FAT rather than mac journaled and I’ve repeated that process with each different option but every time it fails when making the USB bootable drive. Do you understand the reason or wording as to why it fails? As I don’t seem to find anyone with the same issue. I really need to get Mojave on it as Big Sur doesn’t work well at all. The MacBook Pro is 15” mid 2015 if that helps at all and thank you very much for your help as I’m goin’ a little crazy trying to resolve this issue.
@thepmaexperience

To clarify in Terminal when typed y then states; Erasing disc it goes 0%… 10%… 20%… etc up to 100% and on next step of Copying to disc it states 0%… 100% but doesn’t list the progress % of 10, 20 up to 100% followed by that error in 1st msg. I should also add that when I enter into terminal to create the bootable USB drive there’s a note saying; The default interactive shell is now zsh, to update your account to use zsh, please run, ‘chsh -s /bin/zsh’. I don’t understand that and not sure if it’s of importance?

Ya, one could say my whole world is turned AAPL-side DOWN! One of three packages costing over $4K USD, plus two others I can't live without after paying full-price for one (which everyone I know would copy for free,) and has worked since the late '80's is now useless from upgrading to Big Sur! Apple doesn't make it easy at all - or should we say 'one can't stagnate long in any of the operating systems' before you're out again in the cold cruel wallet-bitten world.

Currently running Monterey on MBP SSD, APFS. I've created a separate volume on the HardDrive to install High Sierra. I'm wondering about backup. Do I have to do separate manual Time Machine backups to SSD external for each Volume OS? Or does a manual Time Machine backup of the entire MBP cover all the volumes? Also, is it better to just create a volume on the external to run High Sierra? But then what do I backup to? Need High Sierra to use Adobe CS6.

Hello, yes it is certainly possible to boot from an external drive, but depending on your machine it will be a fair bit slower, an ssd would help but I wouldn't say this would be good in the long run especially as cables can always accidentally disconnect and could cause problems. I always boot multiple system from external drives to clone the MacOS onto new machines.

Interesting that you touched on the disappointment of apple with operating systems after Sierra. I actually loved High Sierra, but found some applications wouldn't run, so I had to update to Mojave to do what I needed. I tried Catalina and Monterey and was tremendously disappointed at how bloated the systems were as well as extremely limiting. Also, I am and have been a Beta tester for Apple for many years. I stopped when Apple was obtrusively collecting needless information about their users. I am currently running Mojave or HS on all my mac desktops and laptops, but searching for an ideal linux solution. I am also working on linux solutions (not Andriod) to replace my iOS devices and appletv. That's how wrong I think Apple is managing their business.
@MrDazzathedude
@MrDazzathedude 2 жыл бұрын
Hello and yes I agreed with most of what you say but I was more of a Sierra fan rather than High Sierra as when High Sierra arrived there where just WAY TOO MANY problems, mostly due to the arrival of the new APFS file system. after several year this certainly improved and on some machine around the 2011 year this is the highest system they will take and minimum need to even successfully browse the internet nowadays. you say you are a Mojave fan however personally I think if you are willing to accept all the problems that came with Mojave then you are better off using Catalina... Catalina has a more secure OS as this is now installed on a separate Partition/Container and is locked it also give you more longevity. you just need to be aware that it ONLY WORKS with 64bit software. Basically the only Systems I like after much testing, depending on your needs and computer is 10.10 Yosemite, 10.12 Sierra, 10.15 Catalina, and if you must 12 Monterey but as you said this is bloated as was 10.5 leopard when it came out. (you also need to be careful as I have seem many macs knackered (Black screen) after updating to Monterey as this updates your computer firmware and needs an ORIGINAL apple HD installed to do this then you can reinstall the non apple drive and all works ok) I do however install 10.13 High Sierra on old reliable 2011 iMacs for first time Mac Users. with regards to Apple overall managing their business obviously they are doing something right as you don't become a multi trillion dollar company if not, but as for the life span and cost to the end user this is appauling, how can they say they are environmental friendly when they don't allow you to repair your own products. thank goodness for Louis Rossmann who can help with repairs that apple don't want you to do and pushing for the rights to repair.
