Tailings can be done over again for pass gold lost due to tech fail. It strange they didn't use metal frames for towers etc, rather than skewed tree logs.

Do you want to give an synopsis of why sheep sheering has halted? Obviously the synthetic materials damaged sales, but the world has opened up and more wool would be needed.
@paulwashere.212122 күн бұрын
Shearing has not halted and the wool industry is very much alive. The sheds I visited during this series are no longer working as they are now all part of National Parks. I visited a new shed near Bourke with a raised board and 15 stands, they shear over 3000 sheep per day and sheering goes for 3 weeks. Thanks for watching.

Darn.. those dirt roads are going to love sticking to that diesel.. just road vibration do you think ?.. Loved the Beltana ruins.. you can only wonder at the stories behind them all.. Trove has a couple of photos of Beltana in 1897
@paulwashere.2121Ай бұрын
The diesel cleaned up OK when I got home, yea a bit of dust was stuck to it. I think it was the vibration as a second filter broke in the same place a couple of weeks later. No filter on ATM.

Thanks Paul.. Fascinating to see the Mines.. many times great Uncles and Aunts, yes Cornish, worked the mines there and further over at Hamley Hill and Moonta, from the 1860's through to the early 20th C... descendants were still mining circa WW1 but now over in Vic at Long Gully... Great to see these buildings.. tough days building all these, living in the dugouts etc

Another Ripper Vid Paul.. Appreciated.. I've some still's of the Falcon Coupe as it was being filmed on location, a bridge crossing, just 15 or so k's away from where I am.. they sure covered some ground with their various shooting locations
@paulwashere.21212 ай бұрын
On the bridge, was that from Mad Max 1? I think most of MM2 was filmed around broken Hill and the final scene of the tanker chase and crash was filmed on the broken Hill to Menindee road. Love to see the stills you have, always been a Max fan. A bit of a story about the Mack truck. It was a split box transmission and had 3 gear levers. If you watch some of the footage of Mel Gibson driving you will see in one shot someone else in the cab on the floor, that was the truck driver helping Mel to drive it as they didn't have time to teach him. In another shot you can plainly see the driver is not Mel and is the Truck driver in a bad wig. Burra next week.

You;ll have to come South and have a decko at the 1870 East Loddon woolshed.. unusual as its all handmade on site brick construction.. thanks for taking us on this visit to a piece of Oz's great rural industry

I love the paddle steamers as well. When looking at the Darling during my trip which is very low due to water theft to feed the cotton farms (but that's another story) I tried to imagine the steamers traversing the river delivering and picking up goods. What a time it would have been.

Hello, I just wanted you to know that I found this video very interesting. I actually live at Rylstone and I go past Hill End on my way to Bathurst but I've never actually stopped there to visit however I am going to do so in the near future thanks to your video. Your channel just came up randomly, and I now plan to watch some other ones and subscribe. Your dog Max is adorable and reminds me of my own border collie, Clancy, who now resides over the rainbow bridge! Take care now, and thank you!

Hi, Thanks for the supportive comments. We have been to Hill End many times over the years (we live in Bathurst) and always find something new to see. I'm sure you will enjoy your visit(s). Max is a pretty chilled fellow but can be naughty when you least expect it. My next videos will be the Darling River Run and the Flinders Ranges, I hope you will enjoy them. Thanks for watching.

I can definitely feel your terror. I came out of there about two years ago with a 15' off road van in steady rain. It was sunny when we went in and they were laying "fines" on the road as we went up. But the rain started and they didn't get a chance to compact it. The trip down was one of the scariest drives I've ever done and I've driven heavy vehicles for 40 years. Walking pace in low range 1st and I spent more time sideways than going straight. Like you I sat at the bottom for a while to let the heart slow down. I often wonder how many vehicles have slid off the side. Absolutely treacherous in the wet.
@paulwashere.21215 ай бұрын
Yep, definitely an experience I am not wanting to replicate any time soon. I kept looking at the edge thinking "If the van goes over, that's it!" Thanks for sharing your experience.

My uncle used to live in Hillend he also used to work for national parks, part of his job was to shoot the goats until the animal welfare kicked up a stink and it had to stop. He use to live in one of the little welsh minners cottage and he had a three threes pickle jar full gold to hold the door open.

Where is the photo of the Welcome Stranger, lth largest nugget ever found ?
@paulwashere.21215 ай бұрын
The Welcome Stranger Nugget was found in Dunolly, Victoria not Hill End. You are thinking of the Holtermann nugget which weighed in at 285kg.
@lookupfromdownunder52185 ай бұрын
@paulwashere.2121 I am talking about the life sized photo of the nugget,that was almost as tall as its discoverer. The photo was signed by all of the witnesses. I stood next to the original photo that was enlarged by the Herald for posterity. It is probably in a private NPAW collection now. I was 10 years old then, I am 70 now.

The destruction of history is never ending in Australia. They don’t care it is a shame even the new houses that they are building look nothing like what Australia is. There is no government here. They are just a group of people who have their own agenda in mind only the ABC Are totally worthless and have their own agenda on the table which has nothing to do with Australia. Brilliant Tee shirt there Paul.... I wonder if it, weights, is a bit of a hidden issue.. do you see many obviousely at risk setups ? a family member with a newly built van ended up having to put a higher rated diff in a cruiser plus other suspension work.. love the slide at Borenore.. any memorial there to Wentworth ?
@paulwashere.21218 ай бұрын
Yes weights are an issue. Some people new to towing think just because their car can tow 3,500kg they can get a van/trailer weighing 3,500kg, but they forget when the add fuel, passengers, gear etc to the car that towing capacity is reduced, then they add water and their gear in the van and that adds up very quickly to go over the ATM of the van. Our van was 90kg overweight with just some gear and water hence the upgrade. How many large vans do you see being towed by a twin cab ute? Many are overweight. New vans are a lot heavier than the older ones hence why we wanted an older Aluminium frame Coromal. Didn't see any memorials but also wasn't looking, just a quick lunch break. Enjoy.
