That X-box fact was not so mind boggling to me. Of course the time will increase for each year that passes. I think I got what you were aiming for, that the gap between an "old" console, and a much more advanced machine (the X-box) was tighter, than the time that has passed since the original X-box was launched. But as I said, since time increases all the time, it will continue to be a bigger gap for each year that passes...
@RetroOrBust
@RetroOrBust 2 күн бұрын
I agree. I think the reason for it is that time seemed to go slower when we were kids & now as we're older it passes so fast. So the time between the launch of the 2 systems seemed like an eternity, & the release of the OG Xbox, when I was working at Electronics Boutique, doesn't feel all that long ago to me. 👍🏻 But yeah, it was the least mind blowing fact but thought I'd still include it.

Can you believe that I've never played Mouse Trap! Or Ghost Castle for that matter, even though I own it! I removed Mr.T from the cardboard insert for this video & was surprised how hollow he feels lol. But yeah, not a lot of play value. Maybe that's why they released different costumes for him. An iconic toy that looks great on display though! 👍🏻

I suppose one other one is that until the 486, computers were very much integer based machines. Floating point numbers could be done in software, but it was almost alien to them. Thats why 3D games were so challenging.

We played Duck Hunt that way a lot back in the 80s. Someone would control the duck to make it harder. You can also cheat that way because you can control the duck and thus know when they are going to change direction. If you don't make any movements for a couple seconds the duck starts switching directions on its own again.

Megadrive was our first console as well. Surprised with how smart I was as a child, who would have been 4 or 5 when we got it, I didn't put two and two together, since my dad had it at his office. It was a two pack, Sonic 1 and Quackshot or We Love Donald Duck as it's known in Japan. We would also later get some child inappropriate games in Predator II and Alien 3. Both we never figured out how to play.

I loved my Mega Drive back then. It was great not having to wait almost 10 minutes for a game to load after having a Commodore 64 for so long! I've recently got Alien 3 but I haven't played Predator 2 in a while. Might have to give it another go soon! 👍🏻

The C64 version of RoboCop looks, sounds, plays way better! Now compare: Hyper Sports NARC Green Beret ..to name a few ^_^
@RetroOrBust
@RetroOrBust 24 күн бұрын
I agree that the music on the C64 Robocop is better but, even though I grew up playing it on the C64, the Amstrad version plays that little bit better for me. I wholeheartedly agree with you regarding Green Beret! C64 version wins hands down! (Even though I hated the game when I was younger! 🤣) Hyper Sports on the CPC is broken. The last event, weightlifting, doesn't allow you to finish the game, or something to that effect. I haven't played enough of NARC to do a fair comparison, but from what I've played both are pretty decent ports 👍🏻

You're very welcome and I'm glad to see the Speedking was working as is! These were all untested as unfortunately my Atari STs (I have 3) are all waiting on new power supplies and I've been concentrating on other things at the moment. The NES joystick makes all the difference on games like Elite and Top Gun apparently. I thought to include World Soccer the case would probably be more useful than the not-so-rare game itself. A mate of mine collects Mega Drive and is really fussy on the case condition and hangers too--must be a Sega thing! 😆
@RetroOrBust
@RetroOrBust Ай бұрын
I did open up the Speedking as there was something rattling around inside. Turned out it was just a tiny piece of plastic from the outer shell. Putting it back together & lining everything back up was a pain, especially with all the tiny, delicate wires! Yeah, I'll probably swap out the World Soccer box with one of my other games whose box is in not as good a condition. Thanks again for these! 👍🏻

You do know you don't need to emulate a Mega CD to play Mega CD games you don't own if you own a Mega CD. The Mega CD isn't copy protected. Just burn a Bin and Cue image on a CD-R and play directly on you console. Oh different regions you'd need to patch. Easy to do. Snatcher gun mode is not needed its a option but if you do use a light gun you'll need the Konami Justifier (its a blue magnum style gun) Wanna know about Sega CD, Saturn or any Sega stuff just ask.. Not trying to be big headed but I know my stuff.. Been a Sega fan from the early 1980's You obviously don't know much 😂
@RetroOrBust
@RetroOrBust Ай бұрын
I only mentioned emulation as my Mega CD isn't working at the moment & I wanted to show footage of the games using real hardware. That's why there's only the Saturn games footage in the video. When the Mega CD is fixed, I'll do another video showing those games. 👍 As for the different region games, I can always get Datel's Pro CDX cart. I did actually find out about the Justifier whilst editing the video 🙄

1:23 No sir! Road Avenger is one of the Best Sega CD games, as well as one of the best FMV games out there. 14:15 U.S and Japan soundtracks are very different. I MUCH prefer the U.S soundtrack. 4:40 Sega CD Ecco the dolphin has extra stages and other content, in addition to it's New soundtrack. Should be called Ecco special edition. 5:20 One of the Greats on Sega CD! 5:51 Classic Text-based Adventure game and the best version is on the Sega CD. The story is basically, "BladeRunner meets Terminator". Give it a chance, you'll be hooked.

Awesome haul. I have to say I am more than a smidge envious. If you want to play your North American sega cd games on your mega cd, you can get a region free bios installed. These have been patched to bypass the region check, but other than that look and behave exactly the same as the standard bios. I'm sure if you speak nicely to whoever is doing the fix, they will do this for you. North American (and Japanese) games will still play at 50hz (unless you also mod your megadrive), but at least you will be able to play them.
@RetroOrBust
@RetroOrBust Ай бұрын
I'm not too bothered about playing the NTSC games as I already have Sonic CD & Double Switch isn't my cup of tea lol. I believe you can still play them without 'modding' the unit with an Everdrive & the right bios file on the SD. I'm just grateful I got an Action Replay earlier this year so I can play all the Japanese games on the Saturn! 😊
