Punishment isn't redemption. People who get punished don't always improve & tormenting someone who already changed isn't punishment. It's revenge/spite & is typically what the evil characters would do.

I don't know if Modern Cartoons "Avoid Morality" but some writers and creators think the solution is destruction (which I never understood, even as a child). I understand why Ann was trying to off Sasha (mostly because after all they've been through, even Reconciliation, Sasha chose to betray Ann and defy King Andreas... *BEFORE* learning he was evil.) It's the sense of not only high emotions, but also the evidence of "There really IS no forgiving you, is there?" (which it does counter later on and I'm glad, but I just felt like it wasn't out of pure emotion nor pure logic, it was actually a legit blend of both.) I feel Adventure time has moments where it avoids Morality (not so much with Finn as much as when it comes to the surrounding cast, because) Finn does show some genuinely ethical decisions and he always specifies "Fight" if he mentions death, it's uber rare and not outright obvious. Finn is a force of pure good that genuinely believes he is helping people and when he is doubted by Billy, he actually tries a different route to try and fix things. The only other character that I feel to genuinely show depth and growth (other than Finn OR Jake) is actually Marceline (as odd as it sounds). I'm not gonna say Adventure Time is perfect, but some of its characters genuinely are in terms of writing and personality.

In my opinion, I feel like restricting morality to the topic of death is a bit unfair. I would argue that Adventure Time does cover morality just not through the topic of death. It's implicit and you have to read between the lines but I feel like they do a good job of showing how Finn grows up and experiences how his original morals are subject to error. One of the biggest examples of this is Ice King and how Finn perceives him. We know that Finn finds out he is Simon in Season 3 but his relationship with Ice King changes as he comes to see him as a good man stuck in an unfortunate situation rather than just a villain, even transforming Ice King into Simon in "Don't Look" because that's how Finn perceives him. This is just one example and it is pretty late into the series but there are other examples. His brief interaction with Farmworld Finn in "Crossover" where he is reluctant to get rid of him despite Farmworld Finn doing bad stuff and his relationship with his deadbeat dad to name a few. I don't think Finn's growth into a character that is opposed to war is a sudden one that happens in the last two seasons but I think the climax of this development into this character peaks at Fern's "death". To me, Finn's relationship with how he views good and evil is a gradual growth throughout the show which results in the character we see at the end of the series. I don't think Adventure Time discusses morality through death too often and I think that's okay especially when we have shows like ATLA that do a good job of that. I'd say it covers morality through other topics like the way we perceive good and evil and how we perceive and treat those around us. As for modern cartoons, I don't think it's always necessary for the show to discuss the idea of morality. Is Anne swinging for Sasha's vitals morally questionable? Most likely, that is one of her childhood friends after all. Is Luz leaving Belos to die morally questionable? Probably. However, I don't think that is what is trying to be illustrated in those scenes. Scenes where Aang stops himself from killing Ozai or Finn hesitating to kill the monster because he sees Fern are scenes where the show actively TRIES to make morality the focus. In my opinion, looking for morality in shows that actively TRY to discuss it and looking for shows that don't actively try to discuss it is a bit unfair as the show wasn't trying to make that topic the main focus. Shows like ATLA repeatedly try to focus on morality and I think it is okay that modern cartoons like Amphibia and The Owl House do not because they are trying to relay a different message and no one cartoon can cover every topic under the sun.

I never realized how much power PB gave Fin and Jake. This really makes Jake's son seem even worse. He kicked Fin and Jake out of their house and said his father "lives the life of a child, " While in reality, Jake has done missions for multiple governments and has a license to kill.

I feel like the people who say fusion is sex are just hornballs, it was pretty clear cut in the show that fusion is just love. Not even romantic love- Just genuine connection, its possible to force fusion using other emotions, like hatred with bluebird and malachite- But its been pretty clearly shown that fusion can only occur when two people are close enough to one another to have genuine emotional connection.

fusion requires mental synchronization such as values or attitudes. amethyst dances like that bc she learned fusion from garnet and rose and probably doesn’t know any other way to synchronize, same as steven. garnets first fusion was unconsciously activated by both of their confusions of the future which created a connection or textbook base relationship that breaks when they no longer feel the same

So first off, not every show is avatar the last air bender. Aang's choice to be a peaceful person was something core to his character's beliefs. The Owl House and Amphibia were not about that at all. We also dont need every cartoon to remind us "killing people=bad" nor is that the point of storytelling. A character making a fault is not a sign of an error, but a deliberate, conscious choice in storytelling. It says something about them as a person. In Anne's case, she is a rash, driven person. In that moment, Sasha was a threat to her family, and needed to be taken down. Thats simply what Anne would do in that situation. Its not about what should be done- its simply what Anne would do. She is not meant to be a template to project yourself onto and follow everything she does. She is not an idealized character. That is not the point of Amphibia's story, therefore its not a plot point. And Morality isnt just about whether or not you kill someone, its so much more flexible than that. Lets take the critique of Luz killing Bellos. Her doing that doesnt make her a morally bankrupt character. It just means that if she faces someone who has PROVEN time and time again that they will manipulate, lie, cheat their way to the top and threaten the lives of everyone they know, Luz is going to kill them. She is done giving him second chances. Its what the story needed, and Id go as far as to say it was honestly the right thing to do. The reason why the story doesnt cover how Luz feels about taking a life, is because it honestly wasnt important for the story. The story is OVER by that point. And thats what good narratives do- they focus on what they are trying to do with their time, following their own internal story logic, not an arbitrary checklist of morals that everyone must follow. Yes, we go into stories as a way of guidance and learning something for ourselves, but not every story needs yo tackle the same issues or have the same solutions to all of these different problems. And besides- what about choosing to kill someone makes that the easy way out for morality? Personally, I think a protagonist choosing not to kill someone threatening is as much of a moral failure/easy way out as the claim that killing is the moral failure. If you had the opprotunity to kill a mass murderer, but didnt because they were a person like you that is alive, and they kept on killing more people, and you caught them, and they pleaded and promised they were going to change, and you let them go again, and they killed again, rinse and repeat. The act of you not wanting to get your hands "dirty" is actively allowing more people to die. In fact, you are saying that this mass murderer's life is more important than those of his victims. There comes a point when a character must make their decision and where they stand on it. A lot of times, the situations in these stories are quick, hasty, and context dependent. They arent going to be the perfect moral solution because they arent meant to be. Thats what gives it complexity and adds multiple layers to it. And honestly, as much as I enjoy vengeance is wrong plots and value of the human life, some people gotta be taken down, and it was REALLY refreshing seeing Luz kill belos and NOT do what Aang did. What Aang did was PERFECT for his story. It would have felt wrong in Luz's. All stories are context dependent and comparing for the sake of doing so without respecting where the story is coming from isnt going to really say anything other than "these two stories sure are different!"

I'm hesitant to say Aang dealing with Ozai wasn't taking the easy way out. The show literally had to introduce a deus ex machina to make it justifiable, and even then Ozai continued to be a threat post series (if you ain't read the comics there's a band of loyalists committed to getting him back on the throne). If anything I'd say it's more childish in comparison because it gives off a "You don't have to make hard decisions, things will work out the way you want them to" vibe. Now that's not saying it didn't work both for the show and for the character, it did, but it seems like the universe bent out of shape to make it work I would also disagree and say Belos specifically is far more dangerous than Ozai. He's also had hundreds of years to see the errors of his ways and yet they only solidified. Would a redemption be possible? Yes it always is. Is it likely? Good god no. Is it even slightly worth the existential risk Belos poses to try? That's where we get our moral grey areas. And personally i appreciate that a show can demonstrate that the moral choice and the right choice aren't always the same thing Now the following statement is definitely taking the easy way out. Finn's morality is cause having him banshee shriek charge dudes swinging a demon blood sword is very funny and the show likes doing the funny thing more often than not

not a fan of lars though he's handled a bit better towards the end... by just being off camera more, i apreceate that, no offence to any fans of him, he's just not for me, as for my biggest dislike of the series thats split between the diamonds lack of facing consiquences for theyre countless milenia of tyrany, and attempts at geniside, the series focuses on theyre relationship to steven and treats theyre redemption as if theyre toxic family members trying to reconect with family theyv hurt when all the harm theyv done issint accounted for and theyre relationship to steven and trying to make that right is overshadowed by the worlds theyv destroyed and life times of suffering theyv cuased... compared how steven feels towards them and theyre relationship to him doesnt even matter, its abserd to focus on a minor element for the setting just becuase steven is the focus of the show to the explosion and detriment of all else at times, steven and the diamonds relationship troubles dont matter compared to theyre crimes against the wider universe, they should be impressoned not in counseling!... but the show never even attempts to achnoledge this.

3:12 gonna add a small addition here for the lore regarding this video, gems can and have been shown tired, garnet and amathest after unfusing from theyre fight against pearl were visably exhausted and admited they were, gems seem to have a limit to how much energy they can put out at any givin time thouhg it seems to replenish at a super human rate, even the diamonds dont seem to have unlimited energy to throw around, blue diamond who being a diamond is supposed to be above the rest of gem kind was so exhausted by her fight with yellow that she struggled to even stand, though she did seemingly recover her stamina quickly, so perhaps its more accurate to say under extreme stresses and physical exertion gems will tire, but have highted recovery abilities, which would match how we see them recovering from theyre light forms being damaged.

I mean to be fair the land of ooo is the last place you want to have morality in. Forget the cuteness actually think about it almost everything will try to kill you and will succeed. You could be in your house bathing and a wizard would turn you inside out, or just walking down the street and a world ending being would incenerate you. Finn grew up in this kind of world it's all he knows im suprised he's even a hero considering the things he has seen

Looking at fusion as sex is such a limited thought/comparison. We're talking about literally fusing with someone so you're minds and bodies are one being. You can't even stay in that form for long if you're out of sync with each other. They are beings of light, who projects their body/weapons/forms as they see fit. The gems don't need to dance, but it probably helps. If your dance is off, you're not in sync with your partner. It probably helps but also this is fiction, so the rules bend cause they aren't real. But going back, fusing with someone IS a very intimate thing to do, but not in a way that humans can really compare with. It's a melding of thoughts and form like nothing we can even get close to (well, without the help of a gem, apparently)

OK. Luz was willing to kill Belos for two reasons. One, he was no longer human. He was fully ok with killing everyone in the boiling isles, killed flapjack, and was going to kill the Collector if she didn’t get in the way. He reviled in pain and hated everything. She knew he had to go. As for Anne, Andreus was fully committed to killing Sprig in front of her. She also saw him as a monster. Neither of them wanted to kill, and if they had killed someone who could have been redeemed, it would have broken them, but their villains had killed and injured their best friends with no remorse and planned to destroying/taking over their friends world as well as their own. They didn’t see another solution.

Finn always had the mindset that evil must be vanquished, so killing what he thought was evil is the natural conclusion. It wasn't until Fern when he was forced to kill someone he considered innocent, and he was legitimatley shaken up by the moment. After that episode, he killed far less frequently and started less fights in general. It's in line with the themes of growing up and realizing the world isn't as cut and dry as we were led to believe.
