Panels & subs best imaging Proper sub integration use JLA cr-1 active crossover
@Xp200dr-gj8lz8 күн бұрын
My personal experience with a pair of REL Carbon Specials was not so special. After getting placement optimized and using REW to integrate with the system I found the bass response and overall sound was lacking. If you compare to world class true subwoofers the bass sounds like a woofer in to small of an enclosure (Congested/ tone is off) and the F3/F10 was nowhere near spec. I sold my pair in very short order.

JLA cr-1 active crossover Proper sub integration 😊 Rel HL input isn't the best
@Xp200dr-gj8lz6 күн бұрын
@@CarlVanDoren61 No argument there however if you begin with a flawed design no crossover can make up for that. After 30+ years of DIY speaker builds it is evident what a woofer sounds like in to small of an enclosure.

Just had a chance to listen to Getz/Gilberto SuperSense on my main system (Alexx V, DD M400MXV, etc.). Thought it sounded very different from the 5 other facsimiles I have including Impex version. Lots of air but it felt very bright. May be correlated? Lacked richness in tone from the "standard" version. Had a realness about the vocals. I think many will prefer other versions but I also think its an interesting experiment.
@everydayaudiophile54098 күн бұрын
I'm in agreement with you, especially with the realness of the vocals. While I didn't get a sense of brightness, I also can easily conclude that the supersense version isn't for everyone... especially given the price and medium

Hello from Canada! I have a pretty wide, deep and hight soundstage but it is more a 2D soundstage always 3 feet behind my SF Olympica Nova 3 speakers. What component in a system would have the biggest impact of improving front to back ' Z axis' soundstage? Speakers, DAC, amplifier?

There is much more potential to tweak the performance of the Holo Red. An SR Pink fuse or even a SR Master will propel the Red to a really different level. If you use a really good power cord too you will notice another remarkable improvement in sound quality.

That Gilad H. recording, is superb, and whoever miked the VV, on that night, deserves some sort of award. I've recently acquired HQPlayer & am slowly driving myself mad trying to decide which filter I like best. FWIW, I've been using the track "No Easy Way Down" from 'Dusty in Memphis', and the sense of space around her voice, as my reference track.

I have the Cyan 2 and tried the Red connecting with i2S. I didn’t like having to use my laptop and Roon. I switched to a Innuos Zen Mk3 with USB and it sounds great. Love the Sense app even more than the BluOs I used with my Bluesound N130. I’m not a raspberry Pi guy. Holo Audio makes great gear. Love the Cyan 2. A great performing DAC at about $1300 US delivered.

I am probably on the same boat. I had a Bluesound Node 2i, never loved Blue iOS. Upgraded to a Zen Mini MkIII and Holo May KTE. I love roon but cannot be bothered with have another computer around the house to run Roon Core. Innuos Sense is a good app, not as great as Roon at handling metadata but great sonically.

Thanks for your review. I’ve had my Red for several months and I have it connected to a Holo Cyan 2 via USB. I also run an Audiolab 6000 CD transport via optical to the Cyan 2. The Red is connected to my Roon Core on a Mac Mini M1 and I subscribe to Qobuz & Tidal. I really love the sound stage and detail. It’s a hell of a buy and I will stick with USB. The system I previously used is a Bluesound Node N130 with a Mytek Brooklyn DAC+ via USB. I still use the Node with Blue OS and the Mytek as a headphone amp. With the RED I’m to play DSD. The Node only 24/196.

I've been using the Red into the Laiv DAC for the last 5 months, I2S the whole time. I've been happy with them. Did you see Hans' review of the Laiv where he said if you're going to use I2S then you should change the Laiv I2S setting so that the streamer is the clock rather than the Laiv? I never bothered to A/B it but I should to see if I hear a difference. I chose both of those products because the reviews all indicated a super strong price-to-performance ratio, and I'd have to agree. The only thing I'm thinking of experimenting with is getting a Bluesound Node once Dirac Live is implemented. Based on price point, Red vs Node would be a great shootout.

Very few of us can rewire the house. But your builder likely introduced a grounding/bonding issue. Most builders don't give a shit---about you. Michael Fremer had his house rewired from the street. As I say, most of can't do that. The alternative? Run off batteries. Not joking. Ask your neighbor, Danny Ritchie.

Here are a few things to look at...and you may have done this, already. Turn off or get rid of all dim switches in your house as they are really noisy. If you have any components with wall wart power supply, replace them with ifi wall warts or, better yet, linear power supplies. Have you tried DIY grounding all your components together? Shunyata has a bunch of info and interviews on grounding. It helped me. I recently got the Altaira grounding system (can't comment yet on it...but I first started with DIY grounding, and it helped me a ton.)
