When people are switching out all of their pickups in these Fender Strats, like for instance I see many "hot-rod" them like Iron Maiden does for example, with Seymour Duncan Hot Rails and other pickups that are actually more of a humbucker than a single coil, does these guitars still sounds like Fender Strats then ? I am not sure. What is it except the Fender pickups that makes a Fender Strat sound like a Fender strat, like what is it that makes the Fender Strat tone the most in a Fender Strat ? Cheers for answers. PS from this video I did not think it was night and day difference, but the Fender Strat def has a brigher more twangy and snappy tone and the PRS is a bit more fuller and warmer instead, but not huge difference at all, and both does have a very nice sound, the question now is if the Fender strat can sound like your typical PRS ? If not perhaps the PRS is the better choice if you want the flexibility =) I bought the PRS SE Standard that is very close to the PRS SE Custom and I am very happy. I love the PRS sound early on when listening to my fav Swedish metal band Opeth among other PRS artists, 5:38 into the video I really enjoyed the PRS tone more than the strat for that particular lick :) CHEERS!

@@TheMusicLoop Oh so you have listened to Opeth, I did not realize how many knew of them outside of Sweden and even outside of Europe they seem to be pretty big and well regarded within the metal community. Mikael Åkerfeldt the singer has been playing PRS guitars since the beginning of Opeth and is one of the main reasons that I bought my PRS guitar. Even though I bought one of the cheapest PRS guitars (the PRS SE Standard 24) it still sounds amazing and very similar tone to PRS guitars for 3 times the money which I love. I have switched out the bridge pickup for a Dimarziio Super Distortion because I wanted something hotter to play metal on, but I have kept the PRS neck pickup because i really love that tone for leads and stuff. Not as hot as the dimarzio but a very full , round and warm sound, perfect for blues and even metal solos. Instead of a Fender Strat I just bought Adrian Smiths signature Jackson SDX guitar used for 300$ in mint condition and put a Seymour Duncan Distortion in the bridge and two Fender Noiseless single coils in the middle and neck position, sounds very close to a Fender strat but even after I bought the pickups this Jackson guitar was much cheaper in total than a Fender Strat so I am happy =) Now I just need a 6 string Baritone guitar so that I can play heavy downtuned metal and my guitar arsenal is complete =)

It's an honest review but I seriously am a bit surprised not to say confused about the single coil / humbucking topic. I mean if you don't want to just go close to a single coil sound but actually want to have an excellent one, you have to buy a single coil guitar - you mentioned it yourself. PRS offer the SE John Mayer for that purpose - excellent SC guitar. But f.m.o. it's not fair to seriously ctiticising a Humbucker guitar not being able to deliver an excellent single coil tone even if the switch system gets you close to it. By the way - don't even have issues with the tuners - but I am not living in the Sahara. 🙂

With the two buckers I’d say you’ll get closer to a Tele more than a strat(as we all know a strat has 3 pups while a Tele usually has two). Which to my ears, all my PRS’s do teles justice. I also have a Tele to compare it to. I’ve got this same guitar which plays great. I did replace the pups though with Bareknuckle “mules”

I’ve only been playing for about 6 months but this was my first electric guitar (my only). Mine was used and it had an old wrap around bridge. The studs on it were worn out. Then the grooves on the nut were too deep. And I as well had to retune constantly. Well I got a new wrap around bridge with Intonation adjustments, and a new nut, locking tuners, switched to EMG pick ups and had the truss adjusted and I’ve got to say I love this instrument it sounds perfect and you can virtually play any style of music. Really what improved the sound the most was the new pick ups. The coil switches or what ever were alot more noticeable. I spent $799 and went a little over board for just starting out but as I’m getting better I can confidently say I’ll keep this guitar for ever it is amazing 10/10 would recommend with those tweaks

Great video and playing! I have the 24-08 and an American Pro II. Obviously, they dont sound the same. They both sound great...stock. The difference in playing is the main thing here. I'm very agressive on the Strat, while i play more delicately on the PRS. It's great to change styles of playing. As my podiatrist said, "Wear different shoes to keep you feet healthy." 😀 I have to add, The PRS neck is notably thinner. I had my reservations, since I like a thick neck. Unfounded doubt. The neck is amazing.... go figure.

Own the SE Standard (!) 24-08 since a few weeks. It‘s great! There is absolutely no need to compare it with strat, the output is much higher and it‘s by far more aggressiv. So in my eyes it‘s a peace of it’s own. Love to use both PU but the Bridge in single coil! That’s amazing!

The PRS SE Custom 24 is a beutiful instrument, I love mine. It is never going to emulate the exact tones of a Strat or a Les Paul, but it comes mighty close to both (and even closer if you are willing to use an EQ pedal and mess around a little) and for the price range offers top end quality. It also gets a much better strat sound than a Les Paul would ever acheive and vice versa so for someone who wants a jack of all trades guitar that has bags of quality and character of its own you can't go wrong.

Honestly, I have yet to hear any split hummers sound like decent single coils. Better to save some $ by investing in the less pricey Custom 24, and then switching to my Strat when desiring single coil tones. 😛

I tried one yesterday. I thought the coil split sounded good - it worked better than on other guitars I have tried as in they actually sounded like single coils and were different enough to the humbucker config that it was easy to tell which was which. Sound in my head? I don’t really have one - probably as I’m primarily a bass and keyboard player. The picks up sounded good in humbucking config too - either with some crunch or some drive. I tried a Mexican strat at the same time - it just didn’t speak to me. Your cons didn’t apply to me - but I think this is probably a lot to do with where each of us have come from, and that I only want one guitar that gets close enough to everything.
