You can not prevent failure in these turbos. I had 2 Garrett turbos fail and 2 Dormans fail in under 110,000 miles! They all failed under the best possible conditions most engines could only hope for. I run the dorman cam cover and intake manifold to fix the pcv issues and always use mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30 oil and change it way before the change interval gm recommends. These turbos are trash. With every turbo change, i bought all 4 new hoses for the turbo and i had no cel illuminated after the turbo installs. They are just junk. Everything about these turbos is sub par or plain wrong. Im selling mine, I've never sold a car in my life and I'm 44 years old. Im done with this trash engine and trash turbo. GM should have to replace these for free. Even Dorman changed the warranty on their almost $700 oe replacement turbo for this engine. It used to be lifetime replacement but after many failures and warranty replacements they changed it to 1 year. Im glad i got mine under lifetime warranty. My newest one will be in any day, its the last one ill ever install on this car. My suggestion is, if you own a car with this engine, sell it asap. Ill never buy any turbo car again! Naturally aspirated is the way to go, especially now days. They are making tiny engines push crazy boost to get the hp they need. My 2.2 n/a engine in my 2005 cobalt ls is a way better engine. Better on mpg and dependable as can be. I learned the hard way. BTW none of my turbos had their oil feed lines blocked up. Not even a tiny bit. They were all wide open and like new. They almost cant block with regular oil changes and quality full synthetic oil. Ive proven that to myself 4x over now.

I’m an old timer and worked on stuff where you could crawl into the engine bay with the engine and work on it. Watching you work on some of these projects gives me claustrophobia. I’m afraid that after about 5 minutes of working on this new stuff a sledgehammer would be my go to tool. Great job keeping cool. Hard to tell from the sound it’s a compression issue or an ignition issue. Timing, Compression, Fuel, Spark. Hard to believe that you would not get the timing correct, even if the head were warped it would fire. I’m thinking something simple like a loose wiring harness plug etc. or at least I hope that’s all it is.

Low compression on all but one cylinder going by the cranking sound. Verify cam/crank timing marks just in case the belt jumped a tooth or two at the crank when you 'took a short cut'😁 Also, looks like the rockers are adjustable, check all valve clearances for sufficient valve lash, and/or do a cylinder leakdown test to verify all valves are sealing. The new valves might come slightly longer than std and may need the tips ground off to set even valve lift, but I kinda doubt it, although it's definately a thing with some engines but mostly performance/custom head work.👍

So father made about CAD $1800 per month Mom had a provincial liscensed daycare, 8am to 6pm $125 CAD per week, 6 kids, 3000 per month. Then rented me their master bedroom $600 Canadian with dinner per month. /. usually something decent and exotic, lots of turkey, vegetables, pretty healthy eaters, lots of rice and beans, neat salads, fruit for dessert I wondered how they did this. Kids were in school or if 19 had Commercial drivers liscense, in Quebec you had better be in the country legally to get a CDL, They rented a taxi for $120 per day, and it was driven 23 of those hours in shifts, each of the men took 7.3 hour turns. They wasted NOTHING. If a faucet was leaking they put a contiainer under it. The house was always SPOTLESS and the only smell was lysol or some exotic dish cooking. Pork, or Turkey, Fish, never anything strange. So, this family of 5 adults had a 4 bedroom & liveable basement worth, then, about CAD 325,000. Solid Middle class by Canadian standards. No car. they used the taxi on empty runds to go to the store or public transport. Main thing, unilke immigrants from other places, these folks at least had a european/french style education and FAMILIES STICK AND WORK TOGETHER. Now in Mexico, Mexico lets the SKILLED workers stay 90-180 days if they can get a sponsor. Many have vocational training certificates , Plumbers, Painters, Mechanics, Electricians with formal training that many Mexican workers dont, So companies hire them before they even get to the US. They work hard 6 days and rest well and go to church on Sunday. These MIDDLE CLASS Hatians are quite capable of adapting , there just too many let in at once in places not ready to receive them, that is the problem and I suspect that few are really political refugees.
