Just 2 inflatable boat bumpers. Worked really well when I had it.

Really like your idea I went and picked up the square tubing to make mine only difference is I'll be using two of those bumpers for each side. Thanks for you're videos.

Your use of the square tube is best idea around. I added bicycle tires to replace the floats for portage

How much drag does it create, does it interfere with paddling

Nice setup. Since it's necessary to drill a hole in the pvc to stop it from rotating I think I will sand down the pvc enough that it rotates in the square tubing to stow the floats in an up position and secure with a pin instead of bolt & nut. Thank you for the detailed explanation of a simple and inexpensive outrigger.
@axelfroment4871
@axelfroment4871 5 жыл бұрын
Don’t worry, they will work just fine, if the outrigger is not aerodynamic like yours it’s better they stay a little above the water so you have no drag when you’re paddling. And if the kayak gets tipsy they will do the work just fine. Anyway if you put a little electrical motor it doesn’t matter.

The design is nice but it looks like you used 3/4" pvc. Not good. Use 1". 3/4" is not as strong & has a thinner side wall which means with a good tilt it's eventually going to break.

Hey AllThings, this is a very clever, sturdy looking solution for a retractable stabilizer. I see your comment below that you had to make a mod to these to make them work. I would really appreciate seeing them in action... do you have any video of you using them on the water? One big concern I have is if they will impact the speed of the boat... do they drag in the water when you are paddling?
@moses_3109
@moses_3109 6 жыл бұрын
Billder Inbaja sorry I sold my kayak before I could get a video of it being in the water. When I took it out it did not drag or slow the kayak down. I didn't have them extended while I paddled. I only extended the stabilizers when I would stand to fish or would paddle while standing.

Thanks for your speedy reply, very kind of you. It's good to know the design worked. I am thinking of trying a hinged design, which would very easily swing up out of the way... I have a buddy who is a good TIG welder. Are you still kayaking? What do you have now? I just purchased a Cobra Tourer (old but always stored in a garage so plastic is in good shape)... should be fast in the water, but not stable enough for stand-up fishing... we shall see. My main activity is spearfishing, hope to be able to dive without outriggers.

Billder Inbaja I currently do not have a kayak just a 12 foot aluminum boat I mainly use to salmon fish. I'm thinking about buying another kayak In the near future. Not sure what kind yet but I'm sure I will want to modify it hahaha. I need to post more videos now that I have a gopro. Those videos of my kayak were from my phone

DIY IS ALWAYS TRIAL AND ERROR. Great job, I used plastic electrical conduit pvc and crab floats. 4 revisions and I love them,up to paddle,down to stand or use the real tree $14 fold up seat I modified to sit higher. Still very stable either way😊. Yakin bout Yakin.

Not sure but I weigh about 150 pounds so your weight may differ from mines could sit lower or higher in the water.

Very nice design. Simple and cost effective... I just finished modifying my Tamarack (same as the one you have) with a double-stacked milk crate configuration over the back hatch, lower crate for deep cycle marine battery, top crate for small ice-chest. Mounted a trolling motor on the front and put some steering cable to near where the side handles are. Also added a better seat and an anchor system. I also built a 4x4 harbor freight trailer into a double-kayak trailer with a little (OK A LOT) of handy-work. Guess what I am trying to say is....what you did in this video will be my next project lol : P

Shawn Guidry awesome you have any videos on your mods? I've been meaning to put another video up my outriggers did not even touch the water. lol had to put a 90 degree elbow on to lower the boat fender into the water. all post a new video soon I tested it the other day and wow they work great. I was able to paddle standing up for a long time without worrying about Falling in lol

poundtown23 _ I am actually compressing the 3GB video I made today on my yaks and the trailer right this moment to load onto KZbin. Shawn Guidry yea these videos are from my cell phone. not sure how to make all those fancy videos on here but all figure it out eventually lol I'm going to add a depth finder. I have a 4inch memory foam seat as well the one it comes with is rough Hahaha. added another rod holder the one on there is a long reach for me and in a bad spot I think. nice kayak tho for the price I got mines at big 5 for 179. someone return it so I got a good deal

The motor mount did not work out : ( the fiance' and I took the kayaks out for the first time and the motor mount slid off like butter....guess I am going to just do the standard mount with pvc and a 2x4 into both the back fishing rod holders : ( ....

where did you try to mount the motor? I was thinking of mounting a plate to the stabilizer and mounting the trolley motor too that but I'm not sure if I Want to or not.
