I think one of the most important developments in my understanding of ecology was coming to understand that forests are not the be-all end-all of biodiversity. Many animals don't need or even want forest. I've taken it upon myself to build a native plant meadow on my own property in order to help bring some of those native plants and animals back to my area.

Man you are doing so much love to see your stuff. We need more people doing this and people need to be better educated on their native species to do similar things in their areas.

The national forest service does this ... Just without the native replacement and in such a way it causes a billion dollar forest fire in Cali or something like that. Holding back the rant so hard 😅 but anyways you're doing great.

Depends on where you live since you'll be looking for native seeds for your specific region.

@lindseyh57352 күн бұрын
Idk about you but I will still do everything I can to slow suburban sprawl. Don’t worry about the white house worry about your back yard. Talk to your neighbors. Talk to your city planners about using native species. Every so often parks need refurbishing, be a part of that planning . E-mail your mayor. You know? Figure out something that you’re capable of and start there. A lot of this isn’t really up to the government and even if it is the gov is just people like us at the local level.

Agreed. Just shows how diverse the south was. People like to brag about panting trees and how “we actually have more teees than we used to.” Idk if that’s true, but explaining to people that simply having trees is not ideal.

@@NativeHabitatProject the same in lowland Europe, if you see how large and many species to support our oaks (Q. Robur) can get when free grown it's immense! Over 1500 years old and hundreds of invertebrate species!! But grown in forest stands the landscapes are so dead... We need way more large grazers 🦬

Likewise I learned a lot from this channel, especially grassland habitats. We need trees but I think only where they were historically present until humans arrived.
