Hey there! Happy 2025!! Surprising list…mostly similar to mine with a few exceptions. My caveat is I have yet to see Aattam (it’s on my list to definitely see) and Level Cross (which as a fan of Asif Ali, was surprised it didn’t make your honorable mention). Oddly I’m struggling to get through Ullozhukku…I expected to love this film but I couldn’t connect with the younger lead character who I just couldn’t sympathize with; I think it’s a very good movie but obviously I need to finish before assessing its impact. My total list (including non-Malayalam films): Hon. Mention: ARM: really enjoyed this one but the ending was a bit expected for me and hence was a bit of a letdown. 10. The Goat Life 9. Malaikottai Vaaliban 8. Manjummel Boys 7. Kishkindha Kaandam 6. Bramayugam 4. (tie) Maharaja 4. (tie) Kottukkaali 3. Aavesham 2. All We Imagine As Light 1. Meiyazhagan (Sorry…ran out of steam typing this on my phone…that said I would strongly recommend for you to seek out All We Imagine As Light. While it’s not coming out of the Malayalam industry it is spoken mostly in Malayalam (with some Hindi and Marathi). It’s a quiet subtle little film. And even though you are focusing on Malayalam, Tamil cinema had an amazing 2nd half. Meiyazhagan shocked me with its simplicity, performances and almost radical optimism

I also remember your critique of The Goat Life, still glad it made your top 10. I would recommend Aattam and Ullozhukku, if you haven't seen them. I think the themes would appeal to you. I heard great things about Meiyazagan, so I'll surely check that out. As well as All We Imagine As Light, sounds really good.
