This is priceless - i moved here 2020 and my Misses family generations are born and bred here . I walked all around the area and have been asking the elders about how Spennymoor used to be like. I looked at old maps, this video has pieced it all together and helped me see how it really was. What a lovely little town. (Especially the old railway Bridge) I wish it was longer Thankyou so much - I cant wait to show the 87 year old mother in-law - Ethel Conlon (she might even be in it ) :-)

Whatever happened to Grays? Are they still around, did it go bankrupt? Did it get bought out?
@DurhamTelly6 ай бұрын
Gray's simply ceased trading in the late 1980's, they sold the land off for housing, I think it simply came to natural end, with the competition from supermarkets etc.

We lived in West Cornforth just outside of Spennymoor back in the 1960's. And my Brother and me were just talking about how few flavoured soft drinks are left today. Ice cream Soda, Dandelion & Burdock, Limeade, Orangeade, Cherryade. And Grays made them all and were the best tasting drinks, and delivered to your door.

@@ghanditwCorrect, people today panic and don't know how to drive in a 1cm of slush. Never mind a foot or two of snow back in the day.. I don't mind the snow this time of the year as it brightens things up and shortens the winter for me this side of Christmas.😊
