Did I miss something about the lesson on the eye level of a figure needing to be on the horizon line? Because he then appeared to place his figure well below the horizon line… Please help me understand what happened here?
@americanwatercolorsociety549020 күн бұрын
"Very observant on your part, and you are correct. I realized as soon as I painted the figure that I was violating the horizon line criteria…. So much to keep track of while demonstrating. Every time I look at the painting, my eye goes directly to the figure an it emphasizes the principle by violating it." -John Salminen

I paint with Arches paper too and use masking tape but I often find that it rips the paper when I take it off. How do you avoid that? Is there a specific brand that people like?
@americanwatercolorsociety549020 күн бұрын
"I use hardware store masking tape and it’s very sticky and I’ve not had problems with tearing. I use Arches 140lb cold pressed paper. Most other brands, while being quality products, are too soft for taping. " - John Salminen

Craftsmanship is mere virtuosity... A skill that may hide the lack of true perception in an artist. I'll always remember that!

I want to say congratulations to those whose paintings were selected this time, Those whose paintings were not selected this time should work harder and try to be selected next time . I also hope that the organizers can expand the number of paintings in the online exhibition so that more paintings by artists can be selected. Now is the Internet age, As long you have good paintings, You can display them online and let people share your paintings !
