What an amazing demo…her ability to keep talking and instructing as she painted! Thank you so much for posting this. I was also delighted with the paintings behind her. If possible please post the name of the artist that painted the gray abstract. Again, thanks👍

I thoroughly enjoyed that. I watch a lot of painting videos, but seldom to the end (or I skip to the end) because once an artist has established a protocol, it’s fairly predictable. With this lady, you couldn’t tell what would happen!

Agreed. We're watching a master artist at work. I love her process with the paints and brushes. As an art student I particularly appreciate the artist's homage to Georgia O'Keefe and the importance of museum trips, the quotes from Matisse, and reference to Klimt's going against convention in working from small form or details to the large. I tend to follow what the paint does unless I am working a series of excercises from the art texts I am guided and trained by. Watercolor is a future 3rd year exercise for me, but I prepare myself well in advance for future training with exposure to gems like this artist's work. It gives me inspiration to have the patience to learn and practice from fundamentals on to skilled practice.

What are those lovely sharp flat brushes you use?

The fabulous flat, almost knife-edge brushes are Richeson. Barbara uses the 1.5", and 2" Richesons the most.

I so much enjoy not only seeing the painting process but more so the thoughts that you are having while painting and deciding. Deciding is so often hard work for me so I really appreciate your sharing your inner process while painting!!!!💙

How random and fun to let your colors do what they want…the colors so pretty. I didn’t think you could somehow have control within the water…so neat watching the process❣️🙏🏽🙋🏻‍♀️👍🏽Mia

That's how my palates look, too!! I rarely ever clean them because those are where you get your best greys. Love the travel tip...because I need to work on condensing what I travel with in terms of paint. When packing, I can become *paint insecure* and do tend to roll with a bag of tube paints.

I have used the Pimsleur method before trips to France, Spain and Italy with great success. They have a website and have upgraded access to their program since I borrowed their tapes from my library decades ago.

Hello! Here is a message from the artist Barbara Nechis: "I can’t imagine trying to fit all that is displayed in this demo smaller than a half sheet. However, I spent a week in June painting at Tahoe with 9 artist friends and most of us worked on 1/4 sheets."

I love this style. I am a complete beginner but touching on your comment re mixing up brushes it occurred to me you could paint a colour or even write the colour on the handle of your brushes so that you don't mix them up. Just a thought like I said a beginner so maybe this isn't a good solution.

I am so glad I watched this!!!It has shed a whole new light on how to attain the desires of my heart concerning watercolor. I’m not interested in portrait painting but love landscapes and since I’m only a year and 1/2 in with watercolor I’m still learning so much! I picked up a lined dagger last night for the first time and just played with it. I was in awe at what this fantastic brush had to offer. I actually ended up creating a beautiful bird by accident. This layered concept of contrasting warm and cool colors and seeing where fantastic lines can appear through your own artistic eye as well as white space needing a bit of color to bring forth an amazing visual that screams for those awe inspiring details that delight me so much! Thank you so much Barbara Nechis for showing me your beautiful abstract technique that I’ve been craving for! I’m creating greeting cards for family and friends and even though they’re pretty and some cute, I long to find out how to create an abstract watercolor Christmas card that my family and friends would like. I’ve always painted with acrylics but have to say , the art of watercolor just fascinates me!!
