I was born, On the other side of love, When love was truly wanted, It was a different time. Today, Love's turned to lust , And the music describes Crimes. What ever happened, From then to now, What destroyed the love I knew. I wasn't old enough To appreciate it then, Now, what am i supposed To do? Slowly but quickly, Love drifted away, Right before my eyes. I was mislead to believe, The lie, their disguise. With each year that passed away, I was blind, I couldn't see. Culture, trends, And what once was in, Took love away from me. Now it's no longer moments, Only memories, And loved ones dead and gone. And the ones that still Stick around, To them, i tightly hold on. As this world and time Mocks and laughs at me, I'm reminded of the day, That this world punished me, And took my love away.

Time is sort of cruel. So is love. My eyes don't determine my answers, my heart does. Something this time period I'm stuck in doesn't care anything about. What I fell in love in your songs then is still as beautiful and powerful as they were then. Time is so cruel. The time period I am stuck in, I don't fit. I really didn't ever fit anytime. But I find a place within your songs that feels like home. A home I never was allowed to experience or know. Thank you Janis for your songs and the beautiful heart behind those words of your songs. Thank you

At University in 1975 I was woken in the night by someone in the next room playing this song at full volume. I've been haunted by it ever since. A welcome haunting! And what a spine-tingling performance this is.

30 years easily since listening to Between the Lines - my god, remembered every word and every emotion from all those years ago. So beautiful and real both in the syrup of the memories but the beauty of the time she takes me back to. She really was the voice that told me, in all that teenage angst, that I was not alone. I am admonishing myself now for letting it go.

With MIDI automation it’s difficult to change tempo and meter the way she does here. Not impossible, but it goes against the grain.

All her songs are hauntingly beautiful and yet heart-wrenching. I love the double-entendre of “morning” and “mourning.” “It’s a long, long time ‘til mourning lays wasted on the dawn.” Wow!

I love you so much.

I don't want to ride the milk train any more I'll go to bed at nine, and waken with the dawn And lunch at half past noon Dinner prompt at five The comfort of a few old friends long past their prime Pass the tea & sympathy For the good old days long gone Let's drink a toast to those who most Believe in what they've won It's a long long time 'til morning Plays wasted on the dawn I'll not write another line, For my true love is gone And when the guests have done I'll tidy up the room I'll turn the covers down And gazing at the moon Will pray to go quite mad And live in long ago When you and I were one, so very long ago Pass the tea & sympathy For the good old days long gone Let's drink a toast to those who most Believe in what they've won It's a long long time 'til morning Plays wasted on the dawn I'll not write another line, For my true love is gone And when I have no dreams To give you any more, I'll light a blazing fire And wait within the door, And throw my life away "I wonder why?" they all will say And now I lay me down to sleep, Forever and a day Pass the tea & sympathy For the good old days are dead Let's drink a toast to those who best Survived the life they've led It's a long long time 'til morning, So build your fires high Now I lay me down to sleep, Forever by your side

I wonder why her songs aren't on Sirius "The Bridge" which is a songwriters channel like James Taylor, etc. I guess because a lot of her songs are sad. But she should be on there. My wife knew of her, I just remember her songs but not the name of the singer. Masterful singer.
