Sorry to hear you didn't like this one. I've not read it, so can't comment on the book, but I think some family drama books just pack too many issues into the pages. If the book doesn't have to focus on Christmas, I did enjoy The House We Grew Up In, by Lisa Jewell. It's a family drama book, with a focus on Easter.
@LizsReadingCorner-

This definitely had far too much going on, which when added to the sheer number of stereotypes in the book really just made it too much. I really enjoy Lisa Jewell's books, I'll have to add it to my tbr ^_^

The book sounds interesting, but my question on books like this is always how likely would it be for every person in a random group of strangers to have a shady past? It makes for a good setup, but does that make it just too much? Anyway, for this author, I did like Not a Happy Family. I would avoid Everyone Here Is Lying, and What Have You Done? Both books not so good.
@LizsReadingCorner-
@LizsReadingCorner- 10 күн бұрын
Yeah I think the author chose the easy plotlines for this story, rather than going for something that was a little bit more believable and a little bit less coincidental and it really brings the story down in my opinion. Thanks, I'll make sure to steer clear of them :)

I couldn't imagine trying to work my way through this series, there's so many books! With this book being as problematic as it was, that's another strike against the series for me. I honestly don't think I can read another Hannah Swensen book, but I am seriously considering trying some of the baking recipes to see what they are like

Hope the next book is a better fit for you. I did read some Christmas themed mysteries recently. One called The Christmas Eve Murders was okay. I'm not a huge Christmas themed book reader, unless it's part of a series or something that really catches my attention. When watching this video, the description of the book made me think of that TV show McLeod's Daughters, for some reason. This book sounds like it's similar, but with a castle at Christmas.
@LizsReadingCorner-
@LizsReadingCorner- 10 күн бұрын
You hit the nail on the head there, it is very reminiscent of McLeod's Daughters only set in a castle instead of the outback. I think the sheer amount of drama and cheating really ruined this book, the author relied too heavily on those plot points and so what could have been quite an interesting story was ruined for me

Sorry you didn't enjoy this one. I enjoyed it, but I didn't enjoy the second book near as much. For his older works I would say either Christine, because I love that story and it reads really fast, or The Tommyknockers for the sheer outlandishness of it. For his "newer" books (so from 2000 onwards) I would say Under the Dome, although this is another of his long books (over 1000 pages), or Everything's Eventual, which is a collection of short stories, but specifically 1408 - which is my favourite story from Stephen King :)

Great video. Misery is amazing and, like you said, the movie is brilliant. I think Kathy Bates was iconic in the movie. I think Misery is chilling for readers because the villain is a human, not a creature or whatever, so it make readers think it's more likely. I actually can't think what King book I find the scariest. I'd have to reread them. But I know Misery is a book I always think of first whenever somebody mentions Stephen King.

Great video. Looking forward to the next 5 books. Sorry to hear you didn't like Gerald's Game or The Stand. I read both a long time ago, but I do want to read them again. I think Stephen King can be a bit rambly, but I've always found him great at smaller town settings. I've always thought Dean Koontz was a better horror writer than King, but Koontz shifted to cross-genre books a long time ago. If you want something like splatterpunk horror, then Richard Laymon is a big author.

Sci fi, horror, action(?). 11 volumes (ongoing) Look back and goodbye eri. By the same author, one shots (one chapter) although they are 100 and 300 pages each.
