When I was in BSA, we used to do a yearly camp out there, where we would do activities with cub scouts looking to advance (think bribing cub scouts to join our troop). My first ever trip there, when l was advancing, we partnered with the georgetown college football team to excavate the basement. Football guys brought us buckets of sand, while we sifted it. We found old china, porcelein figurines, a few squirrel skeletons, etc. On my last trip there, was another guy's eagle project. We helped move shingles from the old roof down to the basement. That had sat in the attic for so long, the floor was starting bow under them, being slate. In fact the side of the attic with the bed frame, was where we removed the shingles from.

Still love Andy Griffith!! ❤️

While the Andy Griffith show was transmitted in homes across America, just a few counties over in the Deep South was a real tall walking American Sheriff. Buford Pusser’s real life saga was a contrast to make believe. While we enjoyed the cleverly scripted comedy Andy and Barney portrayed in every episode. Real Sheriffs had hot messes in their jurisdictions. I just seen a documentary about Buford Pusser, and noticed the dates correspond in the 60’s… Not to leave out the nameless Sheriffs in the south that would at their “discretion” pull over cars with out of state plates to ask the driver; “Do you know where you are?” You’re in a heap of trouble…

I stumbled into a most unique opportunity to have an extensive tour of this building a number of years ago. The building is so large, sometimes navigating around it is like a maze. Got to tour all above the ceiling you showed in your video. Having once upon a time in my life being a stage manager, I was in total awe to the extent of the staging, sound system, structure as a whole. Absolutely stunning tour, one I will never ever forget. It really takes a team of people to put together an event in there and they do a stunning-amazing job with it. And the structure is built for so much variety. The history of how it evolved is equally impressive to know, watch, and follow. A huge problem they had is with the sound system. The space was so large that you had serious problems with reverbing echoes. They had to figure a way to equalize the sound which actually took a few years to finally tune it in right. Even at that there are still a few dead spots, but mostly on the stage area. I would love to work with those challenges and do that kind of thing once again.

Oh, my sister Gina Bench is up there! She had been in the choir for about a year and a half by this time (but her first Music and the Spoken Word came later in 2023, April 23; though not in general conference until October), and I was there on Sunday the 4th when they performed THIS program! Some of Gina's and my FAVORITE spiritual songs, especially My Shepherd...! And then I watched their Sunday rehearsal between M/SW and my church meetings. And now, with the September '24 release of additional hymns for the new book, we learn that this My Shepherd song will be in it! --Mike A. Christensen

Thank you for focusing on this world renowned choir. But you need to know two things: The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, the choir’s correct name, has never rehearsed in the Temple. It rehearses in the Conference Center during the summer because of the size of the crowds who want to observe. I hope you truly enjoyed the privilege of being there.

I love this! Thanks for sharing mpre things about the building. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I listen to Music and the Spoken Word most Sundays. The episode they were practicing for here is August 4th's: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4Kum6Khfpifb8U&pp=ygUnbXVzaWMgYW5kIHRoZSBzcG9rZW4gd29yZCBhdWd1c3QgNCAyMDI0 I have gotten to see the Conference Center a few times but not when anyone was using it, and I have only attended one live broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word before. In two more weekends the church is having its twice-yearly General Conference... anyone anywhere in the world is welcome to tune in to any part of it and hear this choir and also true prophets and apostles called by God to share with us what the Lord is saying for our upcoming six months especially! www.churchofjesuschrist.org/feature/general-conference?lang=eng I love that you were able to visit the area! My parents were married in the Salt Lake temple back when, and we are excited for the open house for the public to see it, and then its dedication for use by members of the church, when the renovations are finished in another year or two.

Antelope Island in Utah was named after the pronghorn antelope that John C. Fremont and Kit Carson observed grazing on the island in 1845:

There’s so much more to Brookings than what you see here, we have several incredible beaches within our town and many more all along the southern Oregon coast. Chetco point should not be missed if you visit this area. There are also many great hiking trails in the area. There are also two state parks with fantastic campgrounds in Brookings, Loeb state park is a couple miles up the Chetco River and Harris Beach state park is at the north end of town right on Pacific Ocean. Both parks are typically full in the summer and you definitely want to get reservations in advance, although the spring and fall are very nice weather and much less crowded. There are several charter fishing boats that operate out of the harbor as well the rock fish are always around, salmon and even tuna if you’re lucky enough to be here at the right time.

It's a shame, but a wonderful old restaurant in Boise has closed. I can't remember if it was Cantonese, or Chinese, but it was there since the 1940's or '50's. It was a Chinese version of a coffee shop restaurant, long rows of booths, but they had the best food. Probably why they were in business for so long, only until recent. I saw a post about it on my FB page, I only lived in Idaho briefly, many years ago.

Your visuals in this video are quite good. But I had a hard time understanding the comments being made; audio sounded a tad muffled. Thank you for posting this video; it answered several questions (one in particular) that I needed answered before I ventured out to the observatory; none of the other videos I watched or McDonald information websites answered my specific question. In response to a couple of your questions >>> A radio telescope is one that studies the radio frequency of the electromagnetic spectrum. An optical telescope, by contrast, is one that studies light wave parts of the spectrum. The HET telescope at McDonald is an optical telescope. There doesn't seem to be any information at the McDonald websites indicating what the other telescopes are used for. A VLBA that you read off of a sign (10:47 to 11:10) is a method by which you can magnify incoming light, by using multiple telescopes simultaneously in different parts of the world. The distance between these telescopes allows you to see farther into space and to see more detail in studied objects.
