I watched this movie as an adult. My favourite character is Haku

I think this episode is a great example of how capitalism works in so many places. There is a promise of fairness and a promise that if you just work hard enough and develop skills you can truly "make it." But as soon as someone from the bottom actually does that, they will find some obstacle to make sure you don't actually advance. So, you can have the right glass knowledge skills to know how to beat the game, but it doesn't matter because as soon as you start getting ahead, they can just adjust the settings and then you are back at square one.

I love this episode because everyone is always surprised by how the old guy votes and everyone is always surprised when they actually let the people leave and then by the end of the episode you come to understand exactly why these people are wiling to go back to the games. It's a great episode that really moves things forward and stops a lot of the questioning from the audience. Truly a well written episode. This is how you "subvert expectations" in a way that is actually helpful.

Just understand that you got through the worst of it… the story has so much to offer after this. You really understand the hatred his rage in moments after this. The eclipse is easily the most traumatic experience an anime character ever has had. And for him to recover learn to trust learn to make friends and save casks. Is just an absolute master work on world building, characters and emotions
