I bought F31 330d 2015 Xdrive a month ago and I definitely adore this one. It's smaller then my previous Renault Talisman and less convenient as a family car but soooooooo much fun to drive :)

We bought the car for my wife. She drove it for years and we sold it to my son. He drove it for years and when he was ready for something else I told him I would buy it back. Glad I did. Mine has 143k miles and except for a leaking oil seal (expensive fix) the car has been exceptionally reliable and a joy to drive. There's something about a V-8 after all. I think Nathan's review nailed it.

Have same car, and had same problem with roof just open little bit. Problem was the rollers in the roof frame, where locking pins in roof, enters the window-frame. Loosened up, and lubed with wd40, problem solved.

Door sticking is the Bowden Cable. While the door card is off you should put sound deadening on the door skin. Early cars have none. If your roof releases from the screen but goes no further then it is related to the parcel shelf microswitch (£30 from BMW). They freak out when old even if they test ok on a multimeter. Bypassing it is dangerous as a raised shelf (if you forget it ) will shatter the rear screen. Check those taped joints on the roof motor as that suggests a bodge.

I can give further insights as a 1.5 non-S Cooper owner. The B38 engine was supposed to output 180hp but BMW capped it by limiting turbo pressure to 136hp to not cannibalize the Cooper S sales. It peaks 1 bar but lowers along the rpm range. It can be safely tuned to keep that 1 bar throughout the range returning 180hp and 300Nm, it basically solves the lack of power in mid to high rpm for around 400€. Although I love manuals, the non-S has VERY long gear ratios (2nd gear reaches 110km/h), which is super disappointing (why not shorter gear ratios + 6th overdrive?). On the other hand, the automatic has perfect gear ratios (2nd gear reaches 80km/h). The non-S usually doesn’t come with gear paddles in the steering, but you can buy a used one for 100-250€ on marketplaces. You’ll have to code the paddles with Bimmercode app or ESYS if you’re more tech savvy, it’s not that hard. It transforms the driving experience. I highly recommend a non-S version, very reliable, more economical, cheaper to buy especially if used, less chances to be abused, lower insurance premium, more economical, the engine is much more characterful, and I find the design more Mini-esk (not the sport version). Another thing, avoid the cheap seats and no multimedia.
@ronaldaja3418 күн бұрын
Hi I’m interested in a 1.5 myself, primarily looking at manual but a little bit discouraged by the long gear ratio, is there any solution to it like replacing the final drive ratio or swapping s gearbox?
@xapaiz8 күн бұрын
@@ronaldaja341 it could be possible, but didn't hear anyone who did it. I guess for the amount of work and the gearbox it'd make more sense to just get an S, it returns 260hp with a remap. The 1.5 is good if you're on a budget.

Great video. I have owned a Z4 2.2 for 3years and now have a 2004 Z4 30.I for the last 4 years and it has been a great car and running costs have been low for a 3 litre and a trip to Castle Combe race track resulted in 44 mpg for the 80 mile run to get there and 18 mpg on track where the car achieved an indicated 120 mph down the longest straight. Big bonus is a rust free car that is 20 years old!

How does your trunk lift itself up when you hit the trunk button ? I have a c250 coupe and mine does’nt do that. It just opens the lock but no lifting. Help please ❤
@NathanManninАй бұрын
Not sure if it’s a feature, sometimes mine doesn’t always open, perhaps hold the button on the key? Maybe your boot struts are slightly stiff?
@alex_stpАй бұрын
Hi. I have same coupe, but not AMG, just 1.8 petrol version. Some tips you didn't mention: 1. If press the turn signal switch lightly (without click), the turn signal will blink only 3 times. Convenient when changing lanes. But this is an obvious, I think everyone knows. 2. If you press the “lock the vehicle” button on your key when the trunk is open, then when you take, for example, bags of groceries and close the trunk, the car will be locked and alarm will be set automatically. 3. Also, if you open the trunk by pressing corresponding button on key without removing the alarm and then close it, the car will remain locked as it was. 4. Good for your automatic gearbox: use parking brake if you park on incline. The right sequence is: when in "D" mode depress the brake pedal and hold it, switch to "N", apply parking brake, release brake pedal (car will slightly rolls and stops), switch to "P", switch off engine. Pulling away in reverse order: depress the brake pedal and hold it, switch to "D", release parking brake, release the brake pedal. 5. It’s worth saying that changing the oil using the pumping method works well on these engines. You can do it by yourself, it's fast and not very difficult. There are videos specifically for this car on KZbin. As for the spare wheel, my car doesn't have it at all. But I have "TIREFIT" kit - this is some kind of foam to fill into a flat tire. But I think it's expiration date has passed long time ago))

I do like drive mine in with the DSC off. BMW didn't put in a limited slip diff, but instead bodged one with the ABS. With the will fat DSC on it allows a slip of 5%, but with the DTC on it does allow a 10% slip, making it feel more playful in the corners, while never feeling totally out of control
@peemickАй бұрын
I would assume that the alarm is going off due to low power in the battery. Assuming your battery does not have any damaged cells. i believe you can press the lock button twice to get it into a "pet safe mode". I had an issue on my Z4 e85 2003 3.0l titan silver where the light in the center console storage box would not go off. The light switch was at the bottom of the swing down part, and there was a small plastic tab for the switch to be depressed on closing the box. I've stuffed it with a hankie, but I'm probably going to drill it out and put a small bolt in. The windows can be angled into the rubber for a fit by moving the regular bolt in the bottom of the door. The window position can then be reset for height, unless its your regulator thats on its way out. I like to start the engine before operating the roof, as it does tend to draw a lot of power, especially if you do have a lower voltage on your battery. (sorry I was writing this as I was watching the vid) I bought mine as a project car last year, and they do have issues, but if you tackle them one at a time, at the end its a shank's pony :) Other issues I've had is water ingress in the cabin from blocked roof drains, airbag warning light from a faulty sensor mat in the passengers seat, the 3 abs lights indicating a lateral sensor issue and its under the driver seat carpet, lean on banks 1-6 from a broken plastic pipe that connects to the throttle body, the disa valve stuck open and needed a clean as well as a vacuum seal issue where I needed to replace the seal on the petrol cap and the seals on the oil dipstick, and some misfires due to faulty coil packs. Not to mention the window washer bottle needed cleaned out as the filters were totally gunked up. on the cosmetic side, I've had to replace a cracked rear HMSL, restoring the headlights to clear by sanding/polishing/re-coating, and replacing the trim around the window as the rubber was in a poor condition. Currently I've got an oil level sensor that needs replacing/(but I'll get that at next oil change), and the seat backs keep falling off. Apart from that its a great car :)

Are 2018 plates pre OPF pal?
@NathanManninАй бұрын
I think pre July 2018 or there about is pre OPF. A better way to tell, is to look at the vents where the fog lights are. If one side is fake/closed off and the passenger side is open, it’s pre OPF. If both sides are open, there it’s an OPF car.
