i have a 3 pin laser module. I tried making connections as you said but, it does not work. the laser simply turns ON at full power. PWM pin has no effect
@bitofelectronics
@bitofelectronics 4 күн бұрын
First lets test the laser to make sure the issue isn't with the module itself. Connect the laser to the power supply and leave the PWM cable floating. If the laser still operates at full power try connecting the PWM cable of the laser to GND this should set the duty cycle to 0%, which should turn the laser off.

Also I forgot to ask did you adjust the laser power using the S-MAX setting? (you can see at 9:48)

No, even when i connect the pwm pin to the ground, the laser is turned ON with full power. Update- last night i was successful in carrying out the motion system of the device. Turns out my stepper driver current limit was the problem.

how thin can be the traces? 0.3mm is possible?
@bitofelectronics
@bitofelectronics 17 күн бұрын
At 7:05 you can see that the 6th trace in the top-left corner is the thinnest, measuring 0.3 mm. It’s set to 0.3 mm in the software, but in reality, it’s even thinner due to the laser’s dot size (mentioned at 0:55). If you buy a good laser with a small dot size, you can engrave traces pretty close to 0.3 mm. However etching will also be a challenge, so keep this in mind :)

What's the minimum wattage for the laser? Is a 2.5W laser going to work (assuming the paint method)?
@bitofelectronics
@bitofelectronics 20 күн бұрын
Hi, a 2.5W laser should be fine for this purpose if it doesnt engrave all the way through in the first pass it should be able to do so in a second pass. I recommend not going below 2W for this kind of work. However the manufacturer of the laser is also important as some sellers (especially from China 🙃) may list inaccurate power ratings for their lasers.

It's super simple For the motor facing left and the one facing right, you just need to mirror the wire connections of one motor. Solder the wires together, and you can plug them into the same stepper driver. As long as both motors are connected properly they will run in sync 🙂

All metal films aren't blue, or green, yellow etc though right? Aren't a lot of metal film resistors that sort of smooth/shiny lighter beige colour too, like at 1:12. If I have a bunch of NOS resistors that are unlabelled in type, is there a way I can tell if they are Carbon film, or Metal film, or Metal oxide for sure?
@bitofelectronics
@bitofelectronics Ай бұрын
It’s probably hard to tell them apart if they’re unlabeled. I did some research, and gpt suggests that "if you can test for noise with an oscilloscope, metal film ones will have less noise than carbon. Resistance stability under heat can also be a giveaway, with metal film and metal oxide being more stable than carbon" But I don’t think this is a good method.

You don't need to change anything else. However, the holes on the part that carries the laser are specifically made for the laser in the link. Since it's made out of plastic, drilling it to fit another laser will be easy, or you can edit the files I shared according to your laser.

Well, I printed my parts with a 0.6 mm nozzle, 0.3 mm layer height, and 50% infill and they’re still standing to this day. 10 mm wood or 10 mm acrylic is very thick for this 4-watt optical output laser, and I don't think it can engrave metal pieces. For tasks like these, you’d need a much more powerful laser, like a CO2 laser.Maybe you should get something more professional and powerfull like these The laser power input is directly connected to the PSU, and the only part of the laser that connects to the Arduino is the PWM signal carrier cable. That cable carries very little current, so using a high-power laser won’t affect your Arduino or GRBL shield. Using a clone Arduino is fine there’s no significant difference from the original. Maybe you should get something more professional and powerful like these if you're planning to earn money from it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZmcdGl8ebKWmNU www.alibaba.com/product-detail/4060-9060-1080-1310-RuiDa-80W_1600467717932.html?spm=a2700.7724857.0.0.22d51a0dpq9Aqm

For anyone else attempting this keep in mind going bigger than 400 could lead to your rods starting to flex because of how long they are, if you want something larger you would need to use some rollers on a vslot rail instead of the rods.
