Thanks for showing us how the theatrical sausage is made. Is Kevin Balmer related to Portland guitarist Dan Balmer?

Better late than never to applaud this fine video and its director Kevin Balmer. I've seen Michael solo and with the full band at Troutdale's Edgefield Winery and Little Red Shed, and it's just a thrill to get their backstory presented this well.

@@DiggableMonkey So glad to hear "In the Driver's Seat" playing in the background at 9:45 here. That song is my kind of heavy metal. Everytime I play it on CD I'm reminded of Lucinda Williams' searing cover of the Randy Weeks' song "Can't Let Go" from her 1998 album "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road." Can't wait to see The Yellers tonight at Edgefield.

"From the Central Asian republic of Tuvah". Well, not quite. ONE of the types is, with it's specific sub-genres, but Throat Singing or Overtone Singing is also quite well known from say the Vikings, or the Ancient Zulu tribes, it was heard in Egypt, sung by some of the Nubian Tribes. Fun fact: Nero, in Rome, you know, the Caesar, played bagpipe? Not like the now-common ones, a primitive version, still. Hmmm ... maybe contact Sir Morel, Steve, a phenomenal Khuur player, and do a collaborative song? Hmmm ... maybe Amyran ... sung in both Sygyt (the whistling parts) and low-frequency Kargyraa for the song itself. Oh yes, that seems a nice combination ... . :) This be sir Steve Morel: kzbin.infovideos As you can hear, quite the player, he even played on Mongolian TV! He can "khuur" anything, I bet. Either way, your music is just ... magnificent!!! Thank you, sir ... . Ben

Shout out to art and the artists who painted that building. But, in my opinion, that paint job is the ugliest paint job in Portland. I'm not a fan of the direction Portland has gone over the last ten years. We do have people who are working hard though and pushing their visions.

“The response is generally overwhelming, like ‘Wow, I’ve never heard anything like that.’ But I would have to disagree. They’re hearing it all the time, they’re just not trained to hear it. Some people just need time to adjust their brains in order to encompass what they’re hearing.” Wisdom.

I was shocked, somewhat, but not terribly, at his AGT reception. I saw him open for Legendary Pink Dots, ran into him in the audience at a Skinny Puppy show, and by coincidence, he happened to be my cab driver once. His performance at the LPD show was nothing short of magical. It was at Berbati's Pan, where I'd also seen Cranes. Shame it's a donut shop now. Every time I'm in the vicinity, it smells like a sugar holocaust.
