Hi. I drove up from your and my town of Pickering and did the In Pinn with a mate in September 2005 as the final climb of the Round of Corrie Lagan, which includes Sgurr Alistair, the highest mountain on Skye. It's a superb route (which we started from Glen Brittle) that includes another abseil off Sgurr Thearlach. Descent, in the dark, was by way of the screes of Corrie Lagan, rather than Sgurr Dearg. The In Pinn is not technically difficult, but it's very exposed.

Hi Andy, just learned about this brand. And sounds amazing. Do you have any suggestion for the most versatile combo you can get with paramo gears? I'm looking for a combo that I can use in summer hikes in the alps or to use for ski hiking in the winter. The Enduro windproof and fleece sound like a veratile combo. Is the windproof without the fleece waterproof and usable on it's own ? I'm living in Switzerland. Thanks for the reviews

Full disclosure- not a skier ⛷️😄 but I have an idea of the exertion levels and environment😉 I think the Velez Jacket with Enduro Windproof is the most versatile system on the market and it’s not even an official combo 😄 I will do a review at some point but I mentioned it in the review of both the garments 🤔 I’ve been busy with other projects but my review films will make a come back, I intend to do some retrospectives on owned kit- this combo is super versatile and has made my travels in various mountain trips more comfortable 🏔️👍🏻 the climate has changed and is far more varied than even 10 years ago and the flexibility that the combo gives suits my temperature range and heat levels really well- but we are all different, something reviews can often miss 😉 I have no commercial connections to Paramo and as an end user recommend them wholeheartedly 😊 hope this helps 🌀

@@damdrew ah, a difficult question to answer as everyone has their own definition of wide 🫣😂 the Cyrus are not wide, and not wide for Scarpa, (the Terra is wider for example), but I would not class them as narrow, but ‘medium’, much depends on foot shape and where your width is, eg square toe box vs wide mid foot 🤔 you gotta try them on really ☺️⛰️🏕️🌀

As this is the 'light' version, do you find that in wet conditions water is forced through under the pressure of backpack straps and padding pushing against the jacket? It seems the non-light version has reinforced extra layers of the directional material to combat this, but I'm not sure if it's a 'real' issue?

I have been using Lowa tibet hunter, amazing pricey but heavy' for long Alberta Rockie mountain hikes. So I bought keen 6" waterproof hikers that literally fall apart in 2 months. So 2 weeks ago I bought Oboz Bridger 8" insulated B dry wide . In last 9 days I completed 140km of hard hiking in Kananaskis Alberta. Snow above 1900 meters, below that mud rocks and all kind of trails. Wow' hands down this is my favorite hiking boot now. Ankle support is amazing and, not a single signal of any wear on them. I do use "Mink oil" for leather protection.

Great to hear you’re getting out there and doing some serious walking 🤗🏔️😄 Lowa are a great company with a wonderful heritage and produce some good footwear, but high like boots such as the hunter will always tend to be heavier and I really designed for hunters who may be stationary on slopes and require the ankle support and underfoot support 🤔 glad to hear you’re getting on with your Oboz, I’ve only experience of the lighter footwear and always found it to fall within my expectations of the price and quality- that said I’ve had some excellent use from keen as well over the years 🤔 but again I have tended to only use their lightweight items and I’ve heard many negative things over the years about their range and I suspect we have sold the bits that work well 😉 we stocked Keen for the fit more than anything, as the ones we stocked were very wide ☺️ in the UK I think Oboz are an underrated brand 🥾 thanks for your insights and I hope you get out there and have some fantastic days on the hill 🏔️☺️🌀

My OBOZ are easily the greatest set of boots I have ever worn. I have used so many brands yet these are soooooooooooooooooo comfy. Question...Should you use beeswax on leather boots like the OBOZ? What do you folks here use to treat leather boots like the OBOZ????>>>
@WildcraftBritain
@WildcraftBritain 6 ай бұрын
I also rate the company, they produce excellent quality lightweight footwear similar to what Merrell used to produce before the fall in standards They so sadly seem to end up doing 🤔 as for leather care, in any membraned waterproof leather boot, I would recommend any care product rated for Gore-Tex 🤔 however I would avoid purely water resisting ones and try and find a cream that is rated for use with membrane boots- I rate Nikwax leather cream and Scarpa HS12 😉 to be honest I am unsure about beeswax but suspect if used sparingly it should be okay- it’s the high content dubbing that tends to damage membranes and these also tend to have solvent in them that can damage the glues that I used in modern boot constructions as these were really meant to be used with stitched leather Old Skool boots 🥾 they are very good at nourishing leather and keeping it supple but I would avoid them all but the more traditional non-membrane heavier leather boots ☺️ however in my experience of lightweight footwear the sole unit tends to die before the upper leather areas and the leather tends to be lightweight and flexible in nature and also the only thing keeping boots like this truly waterproof is the membrane 😉 lots to unpack here, and I hope this helps 👍🏻 but most of all I hope you get out there and have some wonderful outdoor experiences ⛺️🏔️☀️☺️🌀

Thank you for your kind encouragement ☺️ this is a question I am often asked of various products both in footwear and clothing. The answer is generally not what people want to hear. There are little to no product that bridge the gap between very cold and very warm seasons- base layers are perhaps an exception to this but even here a good warm Marino bass layer will have you sweltering in summer (I have even different weights of underpants for different conditions) 😉 in my experience there is no good waterproof for very hot humid conditions, and believe me, I’ve tried many over the years 😂 in those conditions I tend to just go with lightweight windproof and put up with being wet in damp conditions knowing that if I have chosen the right breathable kit I will dry out quickly and remain a reasonably comfortable temperature level 🤔 Paramo is by far my favourite brand for waterproofs- there is however no one jacket to do all jobs, the demands of winter are so different the demands of summer 🌦️ however, I do know what my choice would be 😊 not only that it’s one I have actually made (although after spending over 30 years accessing the Outdoors as my primary activity outside of work, I do have an interesting supply of jackets 🤣 in addition add did have access to many while I owned the shop which has sadly now shutdown 😔 but my advice would be the Velez Jacket with the Enduro windproof to go over- it adds up to an expensive system but is extremely flexible, the two combined produce an excellent winter jacket and on their own also have a myriad of uses and they tend to be my go to jackets and have proven themselves timing again in the variable conditions, I have found myself in the great Outdoors 🏔️😊 ultimately only trying them out will allow you to find out how they suit your particular needs as everyone has different experiences of temperature and works at different levels in the outdoors so what is good for one person may not be as good for another and therefore personal choice due to individual physiology and expectations of comfort and what they are prepared to suffer in terms of weather in the Outdoors will be key to whether or not a particular garment will be seen as excellent or poor 🤔 as a final thought, I think peoples expectations of waterproofs in colder humid and wet conditions with variable temperatures are often incompatible with physics 😁 I tend to run hot and produce a lot of perspiration but I also push myself hard and tend to head for mountains 🏔️ in these conditions I have found Paramo to be far and away the best 👍🏻 hope this helps, as I appreciate investing in a long-term waterproof is a complicated and confusing dilemma 😉 but most of all I hope you get out there and enjoy your Outdoors time 🤗🌦️⛺️🏔️🌀

Ow about very hot seasons? Were they still feel comfortable?
@WildcraftBritain
@WildcraftBritain 6 ай бұрын
That’s a question. I’m often asked about various kit and it’s a difficult one to answer as there are many nuances 🤔 these are not a summer boot but can be worn in summer in the right conditions, as ever sock choice are a very important part of the too hot too cold equation- any boot made of leather with a GX liner will prove warm in hot conditions and it’s only the mesh construction non-waterproof liner boots that tend to deal well in very hot weather 🤔 I have around eight pairs of boots for different seasons and different locations, one piece of footwear for all of your outdoor activities and all of the seasons in the northern hemisphere will always result in a compromise 😉 my advice would be to buy the footwear that most suits your general walking times, and as a final thought, in very hot weather, You can tend to get away with just trainers or other lightweight cheaper footwear, but in winter, you need to correct footwear for the environment ☀️🌦️🍂🌀

Thank you ☺️ I own both and rate them very similar 😉 both are well constructed and work exceptionally well and perhaps most importantly have a lifetime guarantee which in a vacuum flask is definitely worth it ☺️ (so always keepyour receipt)😉 I prefer the cup on this one, and have found the Stanley ones to be the weaker part of the unit, but again they are covered by the guarantee 😊 the other advantage of this one is the pouring function with the stopper in works really well where I never really trusted the Stanley one 😄 there’s not much between them, but if I had to make a decision, I would probably go with Klean Kanteen 😊 but either is good 👍🏻 I do like a hot beverage on a cold winter day out on the hill 🤗🏔️🌦️ at some point I will try and do a comparison video 😉🌀

Yes, the fit is not unique but almost so ☺️ they have a very wide area a square toe box and the wide heel 🤔 this is a fairly rare last type but there are other manufacturers that produce wider fitting boots- but I can’t think of any that are wider than these ones ☺️ however sole unit degradation was always a topic in the shop and it tended to be dog walkers that found issue- there is much to unpick here and I could write a small essay on sole unit construction, well actually quite a large one 😂 Tough hard, low rubber content sole units with stiff lasts tend to last longer but are less comfortable and tend to be heavier- these are lightweight softer easy walking types of footwear and with regular use will never last as long as we would like, in my experience anyway ☺️ one thing you could do is a little bit of maths to work out how many miles you’re doing in them, regular dog walks can add up to a surprisingly large amount of mileage 🐶😄 it’s a bit like car tyres, the type of compound they are made of will tend to dictate how long they last and also the type of tread they have, softer off-road tires will tend to degrade much faster than harder summer rated road tyres, and it’s very similar without our footwear 😉 they are also at the cheaper end of the premium market, but that said, in a similar type of boot, I don’t think you’d see much more mileage out of paying more 😉 in addition, I suspect you walk far longer distances over the months then you realise ☺️ which is a great thing wonderful for your mental health and absolutely key for your physical health 👍🏻 Hope this helps, great to hear you’re getting out there and enjoying your local environment! 🤗☀️🌀

@WildcraftBritain
@WildcraftBritain 6 ай бұрын
It’s an often asked question, how things will perform at a given temperature range ☺️ I suspect sometimes we just want to believe there’s one item to cover all eventualities 🤔 but in a four season environment with big temp swings a product that’s good in summer will be too cold in winter, or at least potentially, (things like bass layers can be bridged across seasons but even here season specific tend to be better and for example a heavyweight base layer for winter will be no good in the warmth of Midsomer), and I think where boots are concerned this is very much the case- it sounds excessive but I have eight pairs of boots alone for various jobs in various seasons, but I have been accessing the great Outdoors for over 30 years and some of those are quite old now as they only come out at certain circumstances that are reasonably rare but by when they occur prove valuable- I would say in general they will be too hot over 20° especially in humid conditions ☺️ but again it’s, as with most things, more complex than that as much depends on what else you are wearing and where footwear is concerned your sock is so important to control, as is fit of the boot🥾 these are wide with a wide heel and suit people with basically high volume large feet- ultimately I would class them as a autumn winter boot that can be used in the warmer seasons on wet and cold days 🌦️ hope this helps and enjoy your Outdoors time 🌤️☀️⛺️🍂🏔️🌀

I did this walk when i was about 11, 43 ish years ago, did it with my dad and brother, did it again a couple years after as well plus the cleveland way, such nice memories. Wanting to do it agin this year but will be solo, and will be making it a double crossing, so 80 miles in one hit. Back then you have to use a map and compass at many places and didnt have the paths like there is now that i see on all the videos. How clothing has changed and the rest of the gear and is so lite now, I think one of the best tings about youtube is that your daughter can look back on it in many years to come.

Hi pal, am I right in saying the lower part isn't Gore Tex? I've been considering these for my mtb rides.....I have Gore Tex boots and waterproof pants but they're too short in the leg so on a really wet ride the top of my socks get wet and the water migrates down into my boots hence the reason I'm looking at these...Cheers Michael

They are Cordura backed with I don’t know what 🤔 it’s very tough and what you need in the location 👍🏻 not sure about MTB use 🤔 have you tried long waterproof socks? 🧦 really rate them on a bike ☺️ Enjoy your outdoors time 🏔️🏕️🌅👍🏻

The pour seems a bit messy, not precise enough.

Yeah, I see your point, but it works well in practice and it’s the only flask I have trusted to use with the stopper not removed 🤔
