Why is having a girlfriend or boyfriend so important? Many actors and actresses want to keep their fan base because the reality is that many immature fans lose interest once an actor or actress has a personal relationship. Plus building one’s career takes up so much of their time that they don’t have time to commit to a relationship because they’re already committed to their contracts which might have a clause about dating or not having a romantic relationship.

Most romantic K dramas feature fully dressed female sex partners. The male partner can be bare chested. K theatrical films have full blown sex scenes (R) with nude partners that cover the full spectrum of eroticism. US tv is a bit more permissive in their romantic and straight dramas. European shows are more open to realistic sex scenes either romantic or otherwise.

South Korea seems to be the country hypocrisy . Fans whine about stars speaking up about others being fat or not being as attractive and yet the very netizens themselves constantly put each other and stars down for the very same thing. So apparently it’s okay for netizens to criticize a persons weight or looks but if a celebrity says it, it’s suddenly “rude” and “uncalled for”…. Double standards. Hypocrite much?

If I remember correctly, some of these remarks were made when the actors were actually trying to and being pressured to be humorous. The fact that they thought such remarks are “funny” is another issue- but does suggest another linkage to a culture of female bashing being accepted as normal. All three of your examples were from 8 to 15 more years ago. All of the actors were in their 20s or early 30s at the times. Youth does not excuse anything, but what is PC then to now has changed. I am not comfortable with any of these 3 men’s statements in the past at all, but context does matter some.

What Park Seojoon said was ignorant, but what’s wild is that it was still early on in his career so he was hardly rich! Also, why would anyone want to support someone who has views that they don’t agree with? That does not make sense. I used to be a fan of his and after hearing that comment I immediately stopped watching anything he was involved in because I do not agree with that mentality. But then again for all the success he has, he still lives at home with his parents, probably still being taken care of by his mother. So what he actually wants is a second mother, not a wife.
@KDramaList76 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts so openly. It’s always tough when we find out something that changes how we feel about someone we once admired. I understand why his comments might feel disappointing, especially if they go against values that are important to you. It can be hard to reconcile admiration for someone's work with disagreeing on a personal level. It sounds like you’re really thoughtful about who you choose to support, and I respect that a lot. Thank you for being part of this conversation!

@@JoneOfBark why is someones view ignorant just because they express their opinion, you might not agree with it, but you should try to understand where the view comes from first before criticising. Also in my eyes a fan is someone who admires the actor for his acting, not his public life, and to my knowledge he has his own apartment or house from what l read he doesn’t live with his family, but l will stand corrected if that is not true. At the end of the day its his business and his future wife’s no body elses. There are a lot of woman out there that would love to stay home and look after their children but circumstances won’t allow that.

Fans and paparazzi make dating and marriage difficult for handsome men and beautiful women in South Korea. Once revealed, they have zero privacy and are scrutinized intensively. They are also very busy with their careers.

Both my parents worked and then when my mom had to stop working for her health, we were so happy to have her home more often, but because of her health we had more time with her before she was gone. But that wasn't the way we wanted her to be home with us. We wanted her to not be sick and she always acted like she was fine, and she never complained. Kids always complain about their parents and take them for granted. When we were kids and wished we had her home all the years she worked we felt guilty when we finally had her home because it was because she was sick, that's not what we wanted, and we didn't have enough time. We would have given anything for mom not to have worked and be able to spend more time with us. So, I don't blame Park Seo Joon and anyway that's common in some countries if a family can afford to. It seems life is short and if a couple agree on how they want to live their life no matter who they are it should be between them and nobody else and just because you feel one way before you meet your future spouse that doesn't always stay the same. I had Ideas about how I wanted to live before marriage and so did my husband we fortunately agree on the most important things, and we have a give and take relationship. We both always put each other first and respected each other’s feelings in everything, the only problem that ever became serious was when I had miscarried a few times and because of that his mother made our lives a living hell blaming us both. I was so lucky he went over to have a long talk with her. I didn’t ask what he said to her because it was so stressful for him, but I knew he has always stood up for me and been by my side during all my illnesses, my cancer and so on. All in all, until people are married themselves, I think they should just mind their own business and live and let live. I didn't think we were put here to oversee other people’s lives and their feelings. Haven’t we fought wars so that wouldn’t happen?

Thank you so much for sharing such a deeply personal and heartfelt story. It sounds like you and your family went through so much together, facing incredible challenges with resilience and love. Your experiences with your mom, her strength, and the bittersweet time you had with her clearly left a lasting impact, and I can see how it shaped your perspective on life, relationships, and respecting others' choices. It’s truly beautiful how you and your husband have built such a supportive, understanding partnership, especially through such difficult moments. The love and respect you have for one another shines through, and your story really serves as a reminder that the most important decisions in life are so personal and unique to each family. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and your story here - it really resonates and adds so much depth to the conversation.

Where is freedom of speech here? Park Seo Joon has every right to say what he believes in who are you to say it was not right. His upbringing and his culture probably has a lot to do with what he said and he is entitled to his own views. Lets be honest here how many working mums are there because they want to, mostly its because of money issues that they work. And lets be honest if she’s married but don’t want kids because of her career how many women get criticised for that. This was a comment he made 10yrs ago come on its time to let it drop and he is wealthy enough that his wife won’t need to work, and you all wonder why he won’t talk about his private life. If you must comment do it on his career leave his private life private.
@KDramaList77 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your perspective! You raise some important points about freedom of speech and the complexities surrounding personal choices in work and family life. It’s true that cultural backgrounds and individual circumstances greatly influence our views, and it’s crucial to respect that diversity. I agree that it’s important to separate an artist’s personal opinions from their professional work and to acknowledge the progress we’ve made in discussions around these issues. Let's focus on the positive contributions he makes through his career while respecting his privacy. Appreciate your thoughtful comment!

Can be a good actor but not a good character... Women hating by men, young and old is a learned behavior. Home environment and society messages give Credence to hurtful judgements. The less love the less personal character... 🫂👏🏽👏🏽💞💟🙏🏼

Freedom of speech protects you against the government. He can say whatever he wants but it doesn't mean other people can't call him out.
@MaureenParsons-z8n6 күн бұрын
@ why do other people need to call him out, its just his views and probably his culture too, and over something that was said 10yrs ago. When are they going to let it drop l keep reading these articles from different sources over and over all the time on KZbin or instagram. Just because these people are actors why must they be criticised for everything they say. Have you never said something that you probably have a different view of as you have gotten older. Do to others as you would have done to yourself would you like the continuing criticism of things you said.
