Watch out or KTM will void your warranty on cheese cams , if you do it yourself, sounds like they never pay out anyway , just put it back on the customer.

Might be the end of my 890R journey - had an instant huge tank slapper on mine, which ejected me into the air, and broke my collar bone. The bike is probably a write off. Onwards an upwards though
@portaltwo
@portaltwo Ай бұрын
A tank slapper? I haven't had one of those since my 1970 Kawasaki H1. Hard to believe a bike with the chassis and suspension of the 890R, with a steering damper as well, would get into one of those. I've found it to be rock solid at all times. Must have been some really unique circumstances there!
@TheScortUK
@TheScortUK Ай бұрын
@@portaltwo I ride small country rides in the UK, this particular one I have ridden several times and a lot harder than I did when I crashed; but yes it was a full lock to lock violent tank slapper. And before I had chance to react I was thrown off the bike. Chassis or suspension didn't save it, and from what I've read the damper comes with 10w oil - most owners seem to change this out to 60-80w to make it useful. Alas, there's nothing I can do about it - no idea what happened, but it did. Heck, I even had my bars in the forward mount to add extra weight over the wheel, but it didn't help

@@graw1953 shouldn't have been - the bike had 2k miles when I got it, and I put another 2.5 on. It never felt notchy at all, but you never know. It was collected yesterday, so fully expect in the coming weeks to hear it's been written off. Found another one, but after this experience.... I'm not sure I'd want to jump back on an 890R. My two previous Street Triple RS never once had had shake like the KTM, but they also didn't sound as good.

Mine was horribly unstable when I brought it with 2k on the clock. Any kind of surface change on corner exit could set it off. I found that about 35mm of sag on the rear preload settled it down to the point where I could trust it, but it's still a nervous ride. Get well soon, bro.

The viscosity ratings are not ideal. They are coming in low. I would think about changing the oil a little more often perhaps every 3000 miles vs 4000. Once viscosity falls below spec it will speed up engine wear.

Hello Alejandro, thank you for your vlog. I've already ridden 11,000 km on my 2023 Duke 890 R. I had to replace one clutch kit, but that's my fault: I practiced a lot in the training area at low speeds, doing police turns and stuff like that. With this engine torque, it's easy to lose the friction zone of the clutch and burn it out if you're not used to it. Also, there have been some issues: recently, the ignition fuse blew while riding. The dealer hasn't been able to determine the cause yet. Almost all of the kilometers were ridden in the mountains, quite actively. The tires wear out very quickly; during this time, I've already changed 4 rear tires and 2 front tires. It's a fantastic motorcycle, and I'm still discovering its capabilities.

The quickshifter seems to be hit or miss with some bikes shifting fine and like my bike it is not consistent between gears or smooth. I run my chain on the looser side, like all my KTMs - does not make my bike shift better and I've adjusted the shift linkage numerous times to no avail. I got tired and annoyed and turned quickshifter off. By the way - could not help but notice the kink in your chain - often the rivet link is too tight or your chain is old.

What is the technical explanation between the quickshifter and a slightly dirty chain, as shown in the video? A little dirt on the chain guide and on the pinion is perfectly normal and should not be viewed as critical. The dirt only collects where the chain does not touch the dirty areas. Where dirt is picked up, it is also thrown off again. A modern O-ring chain does not require much maintenance. What is described as critical here is, in my opinion, exaggerated. The chain sounds different after cleaning with the cleaning spray because the grease has been removed and diluted. After greasing, the grease is still thin. This is why the chain runs more easily. After a few hours, the grease is viscous again and has more resistance. That is the reason for the different sound and less resistance. I own a Husqy Norden 901 which is pretty much identical to the KTM 790/ 890. Despite many dusty roads, the quickshifter and the chain have been working for 25,000km to date.

Although I do think I have a pinhole leak in my head gasket as I think the carburetion gases are getting into my radiator and over pressurizing it so the water doesn't suck back in but I'm still able to ride it I lose about one cup of fluid on every track day but I'm going to do a leak down test and probably change the head gasket

Ahhh, yeah the chain guard gets pretty filthy too. That guide of the bottom will really jack up the chain from the center if oil and debris are left in it. Yeah… I hear that from most folks and they run into quick shift trouble eventually because of it. My more slack setting is much much smoother. Safe riding brother!
