Hi Johnny. You mentioned you read Hugo of Balma's _The Roads to Zion Mourn_ "almost every year". Are you able to offer your thoughts on it?
@saintonfire77
@saintonfire77 Күн бұрын
I recommend Hugh of Balma's 'The Road of Zion Mourn' because it shows us the stages a Christian travels to the heavenly Zion-spiritual growth and development-what a Christian must go through-experience to reach spiritual maturity-union of God. In my video's I recommend many Christian books on Christian Growth-Spirituality-read the Medieval Christian's on the Christian life but also the 17th Century English Puritan's. Also read books on Pauline (Apostle Paul) on Christian Spiritual formation. As Christians we can learn about the Christian life from the Past and the Present. I read the book 'Carthusian Spirituality: The Writings Of Hugh Of Balma And Guigo De Ponte' [The Classics Of Western Spirituality] almost every year because there are times throughout the year where I can't read heavy Christian books but something contemplative-something that speaks to my soul-something to ponder-prayer of the heart. As I say in all my videos Read the Bible-pray to the Holy Spirit for a spirit of prayer-pray for divine illumination-pray to see the glory of Christ Jesus. blessings

Thank you for your testimony to the beauty of God. All people should be drawn to the attractiveness of the triune God. I failed to mention in my card to you that in one of the volumes by William Jay there was found a feather - probably used as a bookmark by a reader in the past. I was struck by the beauty of this feather, its design and shades of color and lines of brown, as if painted by divine brush strokes. This one solitary feather gives testimony to a beautiful creator. I would like to know what bird in came from, whether a hawk or an owl. I will consult some bird books and try to identify it.

The Bible is beautiful. The book of psalm has some of the most beautiful poetry even written. Through the Psalms, we learn about the importance of prayer and the acknowledgment of pain, as well as the power of praise and fulfillment of prophecy. It's been designed as a prayer book for God's people as they wait for the arrival of the Messiah and the fulfillment of God's promises.

Recently I have been reading several commentaries and studies of the OT Psalms. Among the Dutch Calvinist the Psalms are sung during worship services and at family gatherings. I was kind of rushed in making this video due to our neighborhood dog barking. But I got through the video without making too many mistakes. I thought of reading in this video Psalm 19, but like I wrote I was distracted by the dog barking. I noticed your last name is Pessoa which is the last name of my favorite writers-poets-Pessoa's book 'The Book of Disquiet' is one of my favorite books-below is a list of books I have in my library by Pessoa-I also have a massive biography on Pessoa that I have been reading off and on for awhile-thank you for the comments-blessings www.librarything.com/catalog.php?author=pessoafernando

I have a set of Guizot's History of France in cloth bindings, don't recall at the moment if it's a six or eight volume set, I believe mine is six volumes and complete in six? I also collect 'books on books' so really liked seeing the bookshop book you found. If you haven't already been there and would like to try a new bookshop in GR there is the Great Matter bookshop on Plainfield Ave that is open until 5:00pm and next door to that is the Fat Boy diner where you and Carol can get some good burgers. The book prices at the bookshop are way North of library used book sale prices but it's still fun to browse. I usually will find a book or two and don't mind paying more for them as I like to support local independent bookshops. Hope you guys have a fun time book hunting in GR tomorrow.

As a language teacher (UK), I am intrigued as to why people read, and of course, WHAT do people read? And what does the text mean to a person? I am not religious (I do not care how 'we' as a people came to exist) but I am curious as to why people take credence from books? Why does a 1,000, 2,000, 8,000 ( dependent on religious affinity) text allow such promise, definition, control over such groups? Does not actualism dictate the way of living? (Great video by the way, interesting room for argument)
