I would love to have a (more modest) dress such as that. But fitting is such a challenge for me. 8 guess this is inspiration to work on my sloper.

You have a great teaching style. You address some of the small details of sewing I always have questions about, that other instructors don’t. You don’t chatter to fill in the space; you just say what’s important to say and leave silences otherwise. That helps me focus and learn more quickly. Also, I really appreciate the absence of background music! Well done.

I made one and its great! But I need to know about a sneaky zip cause it takes forever to lace up!
@PeldynMakes2 жыл бұрын
You would need to use a heavy metal zipper and sew it in securely on a side seam. Though you do get used to lacing up after a few times and it doesn’t take as long. Practice makes perfect!

Thank you for this tutorial, as well as the pattern making video! I’m a beginning sewist and excited to make my first bodice! I do have a question: if I were to use a heavier fabric (brushed denim or tapestry for example) would you recommend using interfacing or duck canvas for interlining to give the bodice more structure?
@PeldynMakes2 жыл бұрын
You should probably be just fine with no interfacing or interlining if you are using heavier fabrics like that

For muslin mockups do you sew a full product then separate it to trace for the final pattern?
@PeldynMakes2 жыл бұрын
I don’t do it fully. Just the one side (the bodice is doublesided) and then after adjustments, take it apart to remake the pattern.

If you use heavier fabric you can. You can also add some heavy fabric to just the front, on the inside.

@PeldynMakes2 жыл бұрын
Unless I am working with velvet, I don’t pin much. Some velvet is so terrible it has to be glued because pins aren’t enough. I really, really, really, hate it but love how velvet garments look. It is a struggle.

Really hoping to try this, but I had a few questions. What kind of fabric would you suggest to use for the bodice? I want to make sure I get the right kind. And do you have any ideas for a substitute for the boning? I checked the link and while I would buy the steel boning, it seems like I would have to buy 100 pcs for $47 and I don't think I can justify that purchase when I would only make one or two bodices (provided I can actually make them without screwing up)
@PeldynMakes2 жыл бұрын
For the fabric, use a nice denim weight. Look in the home decor section at the fabric store. There are some very nice picks there. For the boning, you can use the cheaper plastic boning, but don’t expect it to last as long as the metal will. Maybe double up on it.

I followed this super easily and made one for a friend for this weekend's renaissance faire in like two days, so now I'm making myself one and I'm SO EXCITED. I made the pattern from her body and a tanktop that fit her well, and sized it up for myself with a few mods after the mockup since our bodies are different. I'm so proud of how hers came out and tailoring my own to fit. I'm in the sewing process finally after the patterning and can't wait to finish.

Would this work well with a normal weight cotton fabric? Instead of the heavier fabric that you used?
@PeldynMakes2 жыл бұрын
Lighter weight fabric would not be able to take the strain on lacing up tight. The seams would give out

It is about three times faster to use a serger. You can use a sewing machine if that is all you have. Just expect to take longer. It will still turn out fine.
