Have you ever wondered how to make a reversible bodice? How the heck does that happen? Here I show you how I do it. There may be other ways, but this is the fastest and easiest that I have found. Perfect peasant bodice for renaissance faires or SCA. If you have any questions, just comment below.

You have a great teaching style. You address some of the small details of sewing I always have questions about, that other instructors don’t. You don’t chatter to fill in the space; you just say what’s important to say and leave silences otherwise. That helps me focus and learn more quickly. Also, I really appreciate the absence of background music! Well done.

I followed this super easily and made one for a friend for this weekend's renaissance faire in like two days, so now I'm making myself one and I'm SO EXCITED. I made the pattern from her body and a tanktop that fit her well, and sized it up for myself with a few mods after the mockup since our bodies are different. I'm so proud of how hers came out and tailoring my own to fit. I'm in the sewing process finally after the patterning and can't wait to finish.

I'm so excited to make my own bodice! Two questions: 1) What kind of fabric would be best to use? 2) How would I go about adding more boning around the entire bodice?
@PeldynMakes
@PeldynMakes 3 жыл бұрын
Use something heavy. Denim, upholstery fabric, heavy twill, etc. If you want to add more boning in different places then make channels with parallel stitching. Use a seam ripper to open up one end of the channel at an edge, like the waist edge. You can close it when you are top stitching

I'm actually glad that you showed how to do the bodice like this with minimal boning. Most I've seen have multiple points of boning and that's just not what I want to make. Is the metal boning necessary or could one get away with plastic zip ties or even just interfacing on the edging?

Depends upon how heavy your fabric is. The heavier the fabric, the less support you need. I don’t even have boning in my Irish dress.

@PeldynMakes
@PeldynMakes 3 жыл бұрын
Some regular sewing machines have a stitch similar to a serger stitch. If you are going to be doing a fair amount of sewing, I don’t recommend it. A sewing machine is much slower than a serger. It also can’t cut the fabric edges. I also love doing a satin stitched hem with my serger. So much faster than attempting to do it on a sewing machine.

@PeldynMakes

I use upholstery fabric, denim, heavy twill, canvas, really anything that is about a 12-14 oz weight. Natural fabric breathes better so try not to use polyester. Even wool can be used. It wicks well and can be cooler to wear than some cottons.

Really hoping to try this, but I had a few questions. What kind of fabric would you suggest to use for the bodice? I want to make sure I get the right kind. And do you have any ideas for a substitute for the boning? I checked the link and while I would buy the steel boning, it seems like I would have to buy 100 pcs for $47 and I don't think I can justify that purchase when I would only make one or two bodices (provided I can actually make them without screwing up)
@PeldynMakes
@PeldynMakes 2 жыл бұрын
For the fabric, use a nice denim weight. Look in the home decor section at the fabric store. There are some very nice picks there. For the boning, you can use the cheaper plastic boning, but don’t expect it to last as long as the metal will. Maybe double up on it.

*ME:* (Waiting for the understitch.) *YOU:* Let's move on to topstitching! *ME:* Oh, no.
@PeldynMakes
@PeldynMakes 3 жыл бұрын
It is faster to not understitch. Does make the fingers tired making sure the seam is rolled completely out.

Is the back several pieces or just one? From your pattern video i thought it would be one but it looks like several here
@PeldynMakes
@PeldynMakes 2 жыл бұрын
It is one piece but when making a double sided bodice you essentially made two of each piece. One for the inside and one for the outside :)

@@PeldynMakes Okay thank you! But is there a seam running down the back?
@PeldynMakes
@PeldynMakes 2 жыл бұрын
No, there is no seam down the back. The back piece is cut out on the fold. If you are short on fabric, you can make a seam if needed. Just add a seam allowance.
