Kaoyin, Lokun and Lui (Duit) are Malay words lah. Singapore Hokkien is: Kiat hun, yi seng, gui ji (how many cents)

I learnt that in sg, we call doctors logun which is derived from the English word ‘locum’ which means stand-in doctors

版主的台灣真的不好,醫院台語叫病院,台灣也有用地方來代替所在.應該還是聽得懂,"同樣"台灣是用"同款"的來發音,新加坡講得是相像,但同款式指一模一樣的款式,相像是指類似兩個樣子很像,應該還是有點語意上的差異,相像這二字,台灣人同樣有在用,畢竟台灣泉州漳州海口腔都有一定比例

Singapore Hokkien and Chinese word "巴刹" came from Malay word "Pasar". This word, in turn, came from the middle east brought in by Arab traders to Malaysia and Singapore. The word actually originated from the Persian word "bazar" which meant market. And it was also picked up by Venice traders in Italy during the 16th century. It's read as bazarro in Italian. This word eventually is used in English as "bazaar".

Actually 青色 is cyan . 但是不能怪新加 坡人， 紅毛人也把青豆叫作 green bean . 綠豆反而是印度話的 mong bean , 新加坡人乾脆都叫做green bean .

I'm chinese indonesian. My parents said that our ancestors is from Anxi, Fujian. What I found interesting is my hokkien is very similar to singapore and malaysia hokkien, but very different with medan hokkien. I can understand a bit of taiwan hokkien, but I can't with medan hokkien. Maybe you can compare singapore hokkien, taiwan hokkien, and anxi hokkien. 👍🏻 And you can find out where is the origin of medan hokkien came from. When he said "lokun", I knew immediately that what he meant was "dukun" which is far from "doctor". Dukun cures people with magic, but also can gives people curses, like putting needles inside people's face magically. My family said is : "lokto", which from the word "doctor". And hospital is : "yi-yi", both of the yi got different tones, which from the word "医院". The word married, in my family, we said "ket-hun". But, in informal conversation, we said "kaw-yin".
