The back baling twone goes up the inside of box and out top and down the outside box with loops to catch on hooks - out of tbe way and stationary until bale is finished then over the top of bale and out through front slats where tied to bottom ends of twine - open door and pull out

Hahaha... Funny thing is, she now runs the whole farm and a crew of 2 and grows enough vegetables for 2 farmers markets, an online store and 3 restaurants. She wasn't part of this build as much as seeing how it worked. She's a beast!

I'm thinking of putting a post in the ground to mount this to. I have a fourwheeler and a trailer, so I can bring the material to the box easy enough.

Just me being who I am here, but it looks like if you were to put slots in the back side as well, you wouldn't have to fight with keeping your twine in there, you could put it in after. Do you think that would work?

How many chickens are you feeding with the fodder from 1# of seed per day?
@Thelooneyfarm
@Thelooneyfarm 6 жыл бұрын
One full tray will easily supplement 30-40 chickens. At peak, we were using 2 trays, was supplementing feed for 15 layer chickens, 2 goats, 3 pigs and 30 broiler chickens. Remember that this is food supplement. While a high percentage of diet can be from seed fodder, animals have other nutritional requirements too.

Can you bale aluminum cans with this?
@Thelooneyfarm
@Thelooneyfarm 6 жыл бұрын
I suppose you could, however I'm not sure how well the "bales" would hold together. Grass, hay and pine needles all hold together because the long strands essentially "weave" together to form a solid mass.
@deeremaster4457
@deeremaster4457 6 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. I made one for cans and it works pretty well. If you compact them pretty good then they do stick together decent. But it will only work with cans that aren’t crushed to bad. You also can’t throw them around to much and have to be gentle with the bales or they will fall apart. And sometimes they don’t stick together very well at all. Good luck!

What did you say you sprayed the lids with I could only hear vinegar ? and why do you spray it ? also I hard you say you wash the seeds in vinegar why is that plus how much do you add to the seeds and is it just ordinary malt vinegar what type is it please .
@Thelooneyfarm
@Thelooneyfarm 6 жыл бұрын
Plain white vinegar is sprayed on the lids and the trays after the fodder is used, to stop mold from forming. The seeds are washed/thoroughly rinsed is clean water only, no vinegar.

Your wife is nice, to help you with all that work. Be sure to always be worthy of her. I made the same device, and use it to bale Fall leaves, which I use all summer in the compost barrels. Leaves are not so good at holding together in a bale, but it's better than using plastic bags, which degrade over time, and also hold moisture and let the leaves get moldy. Here's the URL for an Instructable I made: www.instructables.com/id/Baling-Fall-Leaves/ If you use the free 3D design software SketchUp, you can download and view a design based on the TAMU instructions that I uploaded to 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=ued02385a-5d27-45de-8b45-be4805c2edd9

Nice fodder setup. My questions are...Why do you put a lid on the bottom ones? And the other setups I've see have had water reservoirs to catch the water. Where does your extra water go?
@Thelooneyfarm
@Thelooneyfarm 6 жыл бұрын
The bottom trays are open, no tops & no holes :) to collect and be discarded with each rotation. We simply dump off the water, but i'm sure it could be reclaimed for use the garden or something. We haven't found a practical way of recycling it yet. I'd advise caution with reusing it however. The mold builds up quickly in the tray and could potentially be harmful in some applications.

Great job!!! This is IDENTICAL to what we are doing!! We only have one tower done so far but are going to add a 2ed so we can do a oats and wheat at the same time. How many animals are you feeding with your 2 trays?. We have 3 hens and are soon going to to have 3 rabbits + kits once we start breeding again

First! I can't wait to get my stuff together. What kind of pig 🐖 do you have? I'm thinking of getting a ginea
@Thelooneyfarm
@Thelooneyfarm 6 жыл бұрын
They are American Guinea Hog and Kune Kune..so, much smaller than the traditional pigs. We weren't in a rush to grow them since we will be processing them on farm and have been using them to help clear garden spots of Johnson grasses and eating acorns from our oaks. They also can be kept inside electric netting with just a cheap solar charger.. which did NOT work well for our girls last year.

www.oakhillhomestead.com/2007/09/hay-baling.html I found this on pinterest last year and made one. honestly it doesn't matter the size just make sure you put slots in the front and back to tie it and a door to allow the hay come out easier.
