This is the DIY hand baler we now use on the farm. It can be used to bale just about anything; Pine straw, hay, alfalfa. The plans our baler is based on is found here: www.ncforestservice.gov/public...

The back baling twone goes up the inside of box and out top and down the outside box with loops to catch on hooks - out of tbe way and stationary until bale is finished then over the top of bale and out through front slats where tied to bottom ends of twine - open door and pull out

I'm thinking of putting a post in the ground to mount this to. I have a fourwheeler and a trailer, so I can bring the material to the box easy enough.

Could you explain how the bailing wire/twine is employed please?

You think something like this could be used to bale autumn leaves?
@guyh.45536 жыл бұрын
You could also upcycle pallets for this I'm guessing. That'll go good for the weight issue! Ha ha ha! Great ideas on use

Thanks for the idea. I have a ton of pallets laying around, lol

Just me being who I am here, but it looks like if you were to put slots in the back side as well, you wouldn't have to fight with keeping your twine in there, you could put it in after. Do you think that would work?

www.oakhillhomestead.com/2007/09/hay-baling.html I found this on pinterest last year and made one. honestly it doesn't matter the size just make sure you put slots in the front and back to tie it and a door to allow the hay come out easier.

Hi there could you e mail me the plans and how to put it together,I have been trying to get hold of this info for ages but no one wants to share anything, there are plenty of videos on how they work like yours but no plans or how to put it together,I have gone to the site to try and down load it but the site says it has been taken down, I don't know if that's because I'm trying to access it from Australia. Could you please help me, cheers.

There are other plans out there if you search around. The ones below worked for me just now. www.ncforestservice.gov/publications/LongleafLeaflets/LL11.pdf www.lsuagcenter.com/portals/our_offices/departments/biological-ag-engineering/extension/building_plans/horticultural/equipment/pine-straw-baler

Can you bale aluminum cans with this?
@Thelooneyfarm6 жыл бұрын
I suppose you could, however I'm not sure how well the "bales" would hold together. Grass, hay and pine needles all hold together because the long strands essentially "weave" together to form a solid mass.
@deeremaster44576 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. I made one for cans and it works pretty well. If you compact them pretty good then they do stick together decent. But it will only work with cans that aren’t crushed to bad. You also can’t throw them around to much and have to be gentle with the bales or they will fall apart. And sometimes they don’t stick together very well at all. Good luck!

Thanks I'll give it a try.

Hahaha... Funny thing is, she now runs the whole farm and a crew of 2 and grows enough vegetables for 2 farmers markets, an online store and 3 restaurants. She wasn't part of this build as much as seeing how it worked. She's a beast!
