I'm driving my third Xterra. Stock Xterras are not going to bottom out on City potholes unless you have severely overloaded the Xterra or you have a major suspension problem.

Hi Chris, what are you getting for MPG in Town? I have a 2010 Nissan Xterra off road, and the mpg is bad. Any input would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
@SIDEYARDFITNESS6 ай бұрын
Hey there. It's been a while but if I recall I was getting about 20 mpg combined BEFORE I put the tent up there. Was getting around 17 mpg combined w the tent up top. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the review. Could you clarify why the vehicle has issues once going through potholes in the city? If it gets 9/10 for off road conditions, shouldn’t a pothole be a smooth ride for this? I know you said something about leaf springs but I’m not sure if this issue is for you only or if it is for every xterra model or if it is due to heavy stuff you carry around?

Do you ever overnight in places like Walmart or Cracker Barrel in your rooftop tent?
@SIDEYARDFITNESS9 ай бұрын
It's been two or three years now but I did a little bit during my road trip. I liked cracker barrels better. They were quieter. Technically you're supposed to have a toilet if you're gonna park overnight there but I probly did it about 20-30 times and nobody said boo about it

I sold my 2012 Xterra Pro-4X at 135,000 miles. I bought a 2021 ram rebel because I wanted a truck for hauling and home projects while keeping my off-road capabilities. While I really like my truck, I really miss my Xterra. I had zero issues with it. I put a cold air intake on it, which increased its power and gas mileage. I also had white knuckle rock sliders, which saved me some damage a few times. And I updated the headlights and fog lights to LED. It impressed everyone that with me snowboarding / adventuring/ camping. If I still had it, I would likely have upgraded the exhaust next for power and gas mileage. My only major complaint was sleeping in it as it was a little too short for me in the back .

I have a Subaru Forester, do you need a off road vehicle like a keep to get to the camp grounds?
@overlandproject36532 жыл бұрын
If its dry i think a forester would be fine. I believe (but not 100%) u need a 4x4 vehicle to get the permit to go up there

It was awesome! I didnt turn my 4x4 on once since it was dry. If it was wet I might have used it ive heard it can be challenging when its slick after heavy rains. A few beautiful lookouts with amazing views along the way. 10/10 would recommend

I just fitted a XL on my van. all i have to say is disappointing . how one person is expected to complete the task without a large step ladder and much gnashing of teeth is beyond me. I think the closing of the product is a big failure. Who wants to climb on the windscreen of a car. so a van at 6 feet is really tricky. I design methods of finishing plastic products. If I had left a task as tricky as closing the tent to my company I would be sacked. some ratchet straps would aid the process, removable once locked in. I will be modifying mine to make it work. If roof nest want to contact me for the solution, I will be happy to help........ lol

Do not buy the Adventure XL model. It leaks and Roofnest doesn't stand by their product. They also delete all of their negative reviews on their website and Facebook page. What a horrible company. At first they said they'd send me a new roof clam shell, then they said after they realized it was slightly used when I bought it, to put some jb weld on it and I was on my own even though it was less than a year old. . (I was upfront with their customer service from the start that I had bought it slightly used). I patched one leak, and a week later another spot started leaking. No damage to the outer shell, it's just a poor design that traps water in the roof rack rails.

Man, just now watching this. You probably walked right past my barber shop in Downtown Laurel. Wish I had caught this sooner. Been binging overlanding videos. I'd love to know where that site was at De Soto, thinking about heading out there this weekend. Also, Natchez is pronounced like matches. My wife and I love it out there. Glad I found this video, gonna watch some more. Thanks for sharing!

i have a 2006 with the 4.0, like the truck, but not the design of the engine. the 2nd gen came right out of the box with a radiator/trans fluid problem. the shop wanted $300 just for labor to change the plugs because the intake needs to be removed, same with the pcv valve, the knock sensor also is inside the top end and intake and plenum need to come off, and to top that off the water pump is internal, inside the timing cover, driving by the timing chain. this one has about 178000 on the clock and burns alot of oil, but gonna run it till it wont run no more and put a remanufactured engine in er and go some more

Would you recommend this for campers who are not overlanders, like who just camo state parks 4 times a year? ..also would you ever consider doing gear reviews?
@overlandproject36532 жыл бұрын
Yeah id definitely recommend it for that, just remember theyre pretty expensive so youd want to use it as much as possible to get your moneys worth. Also theyre a bit of a chore to get off and on and store them so unless you're ok with having it up there year round youll want to consider that too. Ha i considered doing gear reviews but don't have much gear so decided not too 😂
@drDeFF-ub5qt2 жыл бұрын
Best deal from frontier/xterra pro4x is the rear diff' axle locker . The axle is also basically a Dana 44 (m226). Jeep Rubicons come with that set up which are alot more expensive. Just make sure to keep the breather vent on that axle from seizing shut because them wheel seals will blow and the dealer basically replaces the entire axle which is expensive. I know a shop that can replace just the seals but they made their own tool for doing that job.
