I sold my 2012 Xterra Pro-4X at 135,000 miles. I bought a 2021 ram rebel because I wanted a truck for hauling and home projects while keeping my off-road capabilities. While I really like my truck, I really miss my Xterra. I had zero issues with it. I put a cold air intake on it, which increased its power and gas mileage. I also had white knuckle rock sliders, which saved me some damage a few times. And I updated the headlights and fog lights to LED. It impressed everyone that with me snowboarding / adventuring/ camping. If I still had it, I would likely have upgraded the exhaust next for power and gas mileage. My only major complaint was sleeping in it as it was a little too short for me in the back .

I love my 07. It's Titan Swapped, Locked Front/Rear, fully armored and on 35's. My only hate is the MPGs and the rear seats. It's hard to get stuff in/out of it. It does have plenty of cargo room though. The Xterra doesn't have the aftermarket support the 4Runner does but it also cost a hell of a lot less! They are def under rated in the off road community

@@aldoamen the entire front end suspension and axle was from a Titan. Gives you longer up and down travel and off-road capabilities. Plus the front differential is a lot stronger and they bolt in which makes it super easy to change them out

Irrc the vehicle dynamic control system is actually just for preventing rollovers and other higher speed stuff and if that was all would actually hamper you in certiain offroad situations, this system is disabled in 4lo. The system that has been helping you is nissan's abls system, which is basically a axle specific limited slip system controlled by the abs system and the force is vectored though the brakes. The abls system is always on and is not turned off when you turn off the vdc by holding that vdc switch. When the rear locker is on the abls system is turned off to the rear but stays on in the front. Is actually works suprizingly well as a semi locker replacement, although having an auto and being able to give is steady 20-30% throttle works a lot better with the system then a manual trans like i have. Nevertheless I've had my p4x xterra on 3 wheels with the rear diff locked and felt the front axle abls working while going through some axle twisters . . . Gotta have commitment with a manual!
@Nesten321
@Nesten321 3 жыл бұрын
Ps: ive heard that Nissan's abls is similar in function to Toyota's atrac except it's alway on. Also if you have any other questions on the more offroad aspect of this feel free to ask i have a bit of experience pushing my xterra and plan to push it farther with more upgrades.

mileage is great for it's capability, better mileage than a jeep + they don't have the dreaded death wobble like jeeps either. I wish they still made the Xterra. I've offroaded the crap out of a 2011 pro4x from Colorado springs to cripplecreek a trail rated at 7 out of 10. most of the greenie peak trails in red river NM and 2 intermediate trails at an off-road park “Merus” located in part of the legendary Paloduro canyon. All of these trips I towed a 2,500lb teardrop to base camp 1,000s of miles and the Xterra did great! She’s a Beast!

Early this year I did a 2 month, 12k mile trip around the country in my 14 pro-4x (150k miles) with 1400 lbs of additional weight including a passenger and 2 bikes on my receiver rack. When I got home both leafs were in dire need of replacement. I know the feeling all to well of the original bump stops and how uncomfortable that becomes. I replaced both springs with General Springs SD as I was only trying to return to factory height in the rear and not add any additional lift. I also replaced the original bump stops with sumosprings (Blue)and only wish I would have done this before the trip. A well spent $630.

i have a 2006 with the 4.0, like the truck, but not the design of the engine. the 2nd gen came right out of the box with a radiator/trans fluid problem. the shop wanted $300 just for labor to change the plugs because the intake needs to be removed, same with the pcv valve, the knock sensor also is inside the top end and intake and plenum need to come off, and to top that off the water pump is internal, inside the timing cover, driving by the timing chain. this one has about 178000 on the clock and burns alot of oil, but gonna run it till it wont run no more and put a remanufactured engine in er and go some more

Yeahhh they did release a new X overseas and it's s to the h to the i to the t. But cool to see this info. I was looking at another 4runner or FJ BUT when my brake booster went out in my 4runner and found Toyo knows of the issue but never issued recall on it , I said...Fahhk Toyota for the moment...and found a 2015 Pro4x under 70k miles for 19k. Its a great nimble vehicle off road..more so than the 4runner I think, namely because of the size and it turns on a dime..handles great on highway. Torque is great...can pop a wheelie no problem. I may remove the stock steps on it and throw on slightly bigger tires...maybe.

Thanks for the review. Could you clarify why the vehicle has issues once going through potholes in the city? If it gets 9/10 for off road conditions, shouldn’t a pothole be a smooth ride for this? I know you said something about leaf springs but I’m not sure if this issue is for you only or if it is for every xterra model or if it is due to heavy stuff you carry around?

Best deal from frontier/xterra pro4x is the rear diff' axle locker . The axle is also basically a Dana 44 (m226). Jeep Rubicons come with that set up which are alot more expensive. Just make sure to keep the breather vent on that axle from seizing shut because them wheel seals will blow and the dealer basically replaces the entire axle which is expensive. I know a shop that can replace just the seals but they made their own tool for doing that job.
