17:40 The part where it goes from the dying days of the Old West to the then modern-day is probably my second-favorite scene after the Cheyenne raid on the wagon train (the music for that scene on Side A).

Before Ginger Rogers brought Mame to London...Ahead of the show's London opening, a studio cast album of Mame was recorded at Abbey Road Studios. Produced by Norman Newell and recorded on January 5th 1969, the all British studio cast album starred popular actress Beryl Reid as Mame. At the time of recording, Reid was riding high on the success of the recently released film adaptation of The Killing of Sister George, a role for which she'd won the Tony Award for "Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play" in 1966. Reid was no stranger to Jerry Herman having sung the role of Dolly Levi on a 1965 studio cast recording of Hello, Dolly!. Comedienne and singer Joan Turner was cast as Vera Charles. Throughout the 1950s, Joan Turner was one of Britain's most popular and highest paid entertainers with her unique brand of comedy interpolated with opera. A classically trained soprano, Turner's impressive four and a half octave vocal range made her a hit in variety and her performance shines on the Mame recording. With musical direction by Geoff Love, the Mame London studio cast was rounded out with established session singers including Pat Whitmore, Charles Young and Fred Lucas, all of who were familiar names associated with the many London Studio Cast Albums of the era. Stage Door now present the CD debut of the Mame London Studio Cast Album, digitally remastered from stereo tape. Included as "Bonus Tracks" are Joan Turner's rare 1954 sides of 'The Homecoming Waltz' and 'The Shadow Waltz' (from the BBC TV serial 'The Teckman Biography') recorded for the Philips label with Wally Stott and his Orchestra. The Mame 1969 London Studio Cast Album is a limited edition release of 500 units only.

My Mother's family came West in 1847 along the Oregon Trail. They settled in Western Oregon. I think of what they went through in their travels. The first part of this movie makes me thnk of those pioneer families and what they went through.

PG Wodehouse of Jeeves fame wrote the lyrics. (Hammerstein did the rest of the lyrics.) Wodehouse and Kern had collaborated for years on London and Broadway shows. PG wrote hilariously about the musical comedy scene in early romantic novels like Jill the Reckless.

Here in France Le roi de coeur is unfortunately much underrated. Yet what a brilliant movie. The last replica "Most wonderful journeys are made through the window" is so nice. Love all characters but Coquelicot especially, so poetical I love the soundtrack so much, Always moved to tears when viewing the film or listening to that waltz.Pure genius. Bravo Philippe de Broca et Georges Delerue 👏👏👏

My dad owned this album when I was young. Played it on our big stereo in the living room. He and my mom attended all the big musicals at the Cleveland Playhouse in Ohio. This was real entertainment. Now I’m 80, and I’m not sure what today’s idea of entertainment is. It’s certainly not talent.

Fabulous score for a fabulous film, indeed. I'm not a music or film historian, I'm simply a literary scholar and a big opera lover, but I have to say that the arranger has done a very good job and this whole "soundtrack", if I may say so, is a masterpiece. Mr Sanvoisin has brought something of his own to the music (some pieces are recognisable and unrecognisable at the same time :) ), but has retained the spirit of Verdi, and this helps to create an image of the era in which these melodies would have sounded to the composer in the very atmosphere in which Dickens saw the themes of his literature works. And I think it's absolutely amazing

This music reminds me of my Aunt. She was born in 1899. I was born in late 55' and for the first years of my life she raised me. One of my favorite memories of her was of her getting me outside to enjoy the Texas sun ( after 4 pm) and learning how to dance The Charleston! Couldn't speak a word of English and a petite little thing but could she move! ❤
