Any chance you could post the behind the scenes stuff? I'd really like to see how this is done.

Glow doesn't show when I export as .FBX, what should I do?
@presbarkeep5 жыл бұрын
The glow effects are only applied in the rendered frame window in 3ds Max. If exporting the model/scene as .fbx, you would need to add the glow effect into whatever program you're importing it into, which this video does not show. This video only shows a couple ways how to add glow effects onto an object in 3ds Max 2009.

Just wanted to pop in and say 'good job'. I just started a small experiment on my own, with a similar idea, and found this video, and I was impressed! - Good job!

This looks amazing. To make it look even better, creating an actual scene that can be affected by their lights would be so nice!

I know it's an old video, but thanks a lot for the tutorial! Even with the latest versions of 3ds max, it still works. It's concise, clear and informative.

Looking pretty nice there, I really like what you did even with so few assets, will you be building more on this system?
@presbarkeep7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I doubt I will do any more work on this. The original goal of this project was to programmatically assemble a random pistol from a subset of different parts, and I achieved that rather quickly. I never intended on adding any additional features like weapon stats, rarity, item cards, pickups, bosses, elemental damage effects/DOT effects, chests - all that was fluff/feature creep. I was inspired by kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHamg2erZ911fc0 and I wanted to see if I could do that myself.. and when I accomplished it, I took it a step or two further with all the bells and whistles :) This was the original end goal of the project: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpuamIeledhgjqs

Ah ok shame really, I think you have a pretty nice base there to either take it further as a system or to prototype a small game. Are you thinking about maybe releasing it as open source or writing a blog about it? Am only asking because I've been thinking about a game idea with a system like that and I've been looking around and havn't found a whole lot of good assets or tutorials about the subject. tbh I found this by accident while looking up Borderlands Art style as I was experimenting with making textures/materials in that style :D
@rammaj857 жыл бұрын
also forgot to ask earlier but how long did it take you to create all these systems?

This took a few weeks, doing a bit here and a bit there. I'm not really a programmer so I spent a lot of time on Unity Answers finding out how to do certain things, but I know enough to piece it together. I was in the same boat as you, looking for a tutorial or blog post on how to do something like this in Unity, and I didn't find any so I had to do it the hard way... from scratch lol I sent about an hour modeling each gun, an hour on the texutres, and I already had the "level" (walls/rooms) from another project (inspired by the Keep Depths from Diablo 3). I don't know if I will be doing any blog posts or tutorials or not... simply because the time it would take to put that together, and the coding is not pretty by any means :\
