I live in the Middle East. The in summer, weather will kill you after it kills your vehicle. I like to explore, but also I like to not only get to my destination, but also to return. When stuff breaks, I want it to be predictable, and non-fatal. I also want to be able to procure parts that don’t take a couple of weeks to arrive, and for them to be replaced either by myself, or by virtually any workshop. That is why I drive Toyotas. I have an FJ Cruiser, and a Fortuner (basically a HiLux station wagon). Both are powered by the super reliable 1GR-FE 4.0 V6, Both have the same legendary VF4B transfer case.

I just found your channel. You are one hell of a fab guy. I have a question for you. Are you sure that the front diff is 7.5 and not 8 inch? I was reading and some say it is 8in ring hear. I just want to be absolutely sure before regearing my front to 4.56. Thanks.
@treehouseoffroad2 күн бұрын
Thanks man, yes I'm positive. I've rebuilt several and actually measured for myself. I was curious too bc they call the Gen1 Seq/Tundra rear an 8.4" when it's actually 8" exactly. And the Gen2 Tundra front 9" is 8.66"

what happened? They improved it. Why would that upset you?
@treehouseoffroad6 күн бұрын
Thanks for commenting. To be clear it doesn't upset me, I dealt with it. I put a Gen2 Tundra diff and CV axles and hubs into my Gen1 Sequoia. I was just pointing something out that I found to be a little ridiculous. A Sequoia weighs almost a full ton more than a Tacoma, but has smaller front end drive train components. They did what Toyota does, took parts they already had designed and slapped them on a new model. It's probably only an issue for 1% of Sequoia owners, but I am among that 1%

@@treehouseoffroad well every manufacturer does that, share parts amongst is vehicles.

@@treehouseoffroad also, youre comparing axles that originated in 2000 vs a truck that came out in 2005. Id be interested to see how a 3rd gen compares.

Dude you are a wizard at this. I see you're in Cali, I'm in Vegas, would like you to do my mods when I get ready.
Honestly dude at this point the TC almost seems like the better deal cause they include the uniball LBJs in the kit now, and they didn't when I bought mine. But the other reason is because JD fabs shock hoop is already welded and the TC one is not, so that will require more planning and execution. Also JD had shocks in stock and it was during covid. I think a mix & match is the best bet honestly. If I had to do it over again today; TC arms, JD shock hoop, TC idler, TC steering

After watching the entire thing and the way that it worked out, you put a lot of thought into it. I'm curious if it ever crossed your mind. Two lower the subframe area that all of the ifs bolts to, to make room for the center carrier And if you have any input on why, that would be a bad idea from the way that you went about that, I'd love to hear it, i've been pondering, i'm building an ifs, set up myself. And this hits a lot of spots that I would like to shoot for!! Cheers man!!!

Yes, a drop bracket style build was my plan initially. I decided against it because I wanted all the ground clearance I could get. One thing I've noticed that all the drop bracket trucks have in common is horrendously low ground clearance. By doing it this way and moving the hub location on my spindles up a little, I'm able to keep my CV angles in check while still having a decent down travel. The limiting factor for my front setup is the upper ball joints and the tie rods at this point. Great question

Awesome, I'm doing a 2500 ifs swap on my 1500 gmc because I want to go IFS with this one. I've don't many many SAS in jeeps and toys, just want to do something different. So I totally get why you would take this on. As you put miles on it, just be sure to check those welds on the cast parts regularly. For what you are doing it will probably hold up for a long time.
