It's twin will blow up sometime soon… It has been erupting about every 400 years and it last went poof about 400 years ago… So here we go. Seems like there is/are natural disaster(s) around Christmas time or shortly after the new year.

You don't need AC in New Zealand, I lived in Darwin and even there I did not use AC. Kaitaia has a lovely climate, warm summers and pleasant winters.

NIWA, can you explain what effect the magnetic pole flipping and the weakening magnetic field will have on the environment? My understanding is weaker magnetic field means more radiation gets in, that radiation would increase temperatures wind and moisture, and as such cause greater weather changes is that correct? and if so why doesn't NIWA do a video explaining this, I ask this considering we know the poles are flipping and we know as empirical fact the magnetic field has weakened by a minimum of 50% since 1850 and that the north magnetic pole has moved from Canada to virtually over Russia, and is likely to accelerate. can you please inform the masses of what will happen, thanks from a concerned KIWI

I manage a friends small farm. Lack of rain is my biggest concern so I have 3 weather reports I watch, one of the others is telling me to expect a drought. Weather forecasting appears to be fortune reading rather than science
@NIWA_Science6 күн бұрын
Hi, I would really recommend if you are making on farm decisions to use our free tool NIWA 35. It is for drought but is a great rainfall tool updated daily. It also has historic rainfall trends so you can work out how the current year is trending against last few years for your area. It was made in collaboration with farming groups across the country.

Come across the post for information of insect life for a, "half barrel wild life pond." After a month of established pond, the amount of wild life within the barrel is amazing; mosquito larvae, a ram horn snail, what look like water boatmen, a small worm like crustaceans & little critters swimming throughout water. Thank you, for your post as I am encouraged to watch blackbirds both male & female & song thrush come for a drink & bathe!

Agree mostly with the predictions - it already feels like it will be quite a warm summer, and like the last few years I think there will be some brief periods of heavy rain but between the rain I think it will get really dry.

Meteorological drought? What is that?
@NIWA_Science12 күн бұрын
Meteorological drought is named for its basis in weather and climate patterns. It refers specifically to a prolonged period of below-average rainfall, which significantly deviates from the typical weather conditions of a region. This type of drought is distinct from other forms like hydrological or agricultural droughts, as it focuses on the climatic inputs rather than the effects on water resources or vegetation. Stu
