If you’re going down hill with a gravel bike that’s heavier with road bike tires that give lesser resistance than yes it’s going to be faster. Due to the weight of the bike the gravity will pull you down faster than the road bike. Going on a flat surface or uphill is a disadvantage for a gravel bike because it’s heavier. But I doubt it’s as big of a disadvantage as people would think since both bikes now have the same type of tires. Bulky tires that cover more of the road causes so much more resistance that it slows down a bike by a large margin. It’s the main reason why Gravel bikes are so slow and stable compared to a typical road bike.

Ya if you don’t follow the directions it’s a pain in the ass to set up 😂 let me guess you did not start off with set screws and had hell adjusting all the gears. Also you did not see the warning that said only make adjustments in 1st gear and had to micro adjust back to the correct gear? Let me guess you tried to adjust the gears in the initial setup? 😂 ya all avoidable if you do it right. Step one set first gear position with adjustment screws. Set final gear with set screw. Tell app how many gears. Then exit initial setup and go to debug and fine tune gears as needed. Takes 10 min and I am not a bike mechanic.

Maybe that's a good idea Dave; one brake lever activates both front and rear brakes at the same time.

nice to hear you have had no problems. The other huge advantage of these racks is just how portable and transferable it is, like if you are travelling to go ride you can just take your rock bros rack and slap it on a rental car or on a mates car, etc...

It looks cool, but the aesthetic seems to have extended to making it impractical for carrying things, as well as for pedalling! I think I'd prefer something a bit more normal. In terms of the throttle, it's supposed to be used to help you wheel the bike around when you are not riding it, so the speed restriction makes sense. If you have a bike that doesn't need any pedalling at all, is it really a bike, or is it just some form of electric moped? I'm not saying our rules are great (I'd rather the top speed for assist was high enough to keep up with urban traffic, rather than 15mph), but at least some of them have reasons...

I have one and have since November. It’s cool. I enjoy it but don’t ride it enough. Mines just the single battery since it was only $999 but it’s super cool. Need to get it out more often than not. Need to figure out how to get the screen to work in miles per hour which is what I need since I don’t know how fast I’m actually going since it’s the wrong way for me haha. Also now in the states there is different restrictions on e-bikes since last year I think. And it depends on what state you’re in here in the states or even city sometimes. Luckily there is this bmx rider I follow that was keeping up on it when they were putting them out so his channel is an easy way to get info unless it’s changed of course since he published a given video. The bigger his channel got and the more e-bikes were coming out he was checking them out whenever he got asked to do a review and such. The more often you use the throttle and the higher and longer you ride it it’ll take up more battery just depends on the use case but if it’s not being used all the time mine usually doesn’t take up much battery but if I have it on a higher assist mode and I’m using it more often than I pedal than it tends to drain quicker.

that's a nice bike Dave - it's not for me, but it does look like a fun machine to use on a pub ride - ebike with a twist grip throttle would be good when the legs are too wobbly! the styling has grown on me already - probably look better without the battery on the top tube - or paint it up and make it look like a fuel tank! cheers

These so called "fat bikes" terrorize The Netherlands at the moment. They can be "tuned" to go up to 45 km/h (very illegal) and kids from the age of 11-12 are riding them. They are talking about changing the laws because of bikes like these.

Congratulations Dave! And good to hear you talk about running, hope you add your running journey to the channel. I'm 53 now, lifelong cyclist starting with BMX as a kid, and I've been mixing it up with running for the past 12 years. I had to stop running in my late 20's because of pain and injuries due to improper technique. Learning how to run properly around age 40 has set me free and changed my life. No more injuries, and I can run however long I want pain free. A really good resource I found is a book titled Slow Jogging by Hiroaki Tanaka, PhD, if you're interested... it's not what it sounds like, believe me. Best of luck!

Always love your videos Dave, inspiration for me to get out on my bike - trek domane al 2 from 3 years ago. Ive gone tubeless with 40mm wtb byway tyres and recently treated myself to an igsport 630 computer and some easton flared gravel bars - even taped them myself - not bad for a first attempt but I'll pay the lbs next time to do a proper job. Anyway I completely agree with the whole get out for an adventure ride and not worry about all those stats and training - I do it for the enjoyment and fitness - mental fitness maybe more than physical. I know you are a marin fan, I also have a marin rift zone 3 full sus trail bike from 2018 which I dont ride much anymore as have a nice hardtail and recently a new trek rail e -bike for fun days out. The thing is I pretty much spend all my riding time these days on the all road / gravel rig as I love that style of riding and was thinking about maybe getting bike number 5....a proper gravel rig. I've looked at canyon grizl's and the marin headlands and also marin gestalt xr with the mtb inspired geo - what are your thoughts on these bikes - which would you chose? I'm based in relatively flat suffolk so I would maybe like to go for a 1 by set up as dont really have big enough hills to warrant a double chain ring. Sorry looks like I'm on a rant now! Keep up the good work Dave!
